Lists of alumni
[edit]Please do not create unsourced lists of alumni. You even disregard your own instruction at the head not to add uncited people. Fiddle Faddle 11:20, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
- Actually I haven't done anything wrong. Please don't revert the names and destroy the lists that I have started. Look at similar list elsewhere. Look at List of University of Washington people or List of Georgia State University people or List of University of Delaware people. All the names that were included in List of University of Pune people or List of Osmania University people were students or faculty members at those universities. Instead of removing names, it might be worthwhile to add citations to the lists. UI1990 (talk) 02:33, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- Look at List of University of Georgia people or List of University of Chicago alumni or List of Wichita State University people or List of Kansas State University people and many many similar lists. Timtrent, I noticed that you removed the names from List of Osmania University people again, without discussing with me. Your claim that "All non cited names will be removed per WP:BLP" doesn't apply to "List of [Name of the university] people" lists, OK? People can click on the biographies and see whether they were students or faculty members at the university or not. By your claim, many names on many many lists like List of University of Cambridge members, List of Durham University people, List of University of Nottingham people, etc. will have to be removed. From what I know, if each and every names in the list are cited, the list goes on to become a Featured List. You can't set the highest standard for List of Osmania University people and sub-par standard for other similar lists. I do believe that the lists that I started, namely List of University of Pune people and List of Osmania University people, are good enough. More citations can be added and the lists can be enhanced. Ray Lightwood
[edit]I don't think it is clear that Ray Lightwood's BSc in Pure Science was an honorary degree. Although Lightwood was 52, he appears to have had no previous undergraduate degree and was strictly speaking employed in the role of a technician rather than an academic. I know of no other case of Birmingham University awarding an undergraduate Bachelors degree as an honorary degree, certainly not as late as 1974. I had supposed that Lightwood had studied for the degree in his own time or as part of his technician job, which would not be so unusual for an employee in a technical capacity. It is nowhere stated (in the sources that I have been able to find) that the BSc was an honorary degree, and so until there is some evidence that it was an honorary degree I think Lightwood should be in the alumni page. References on Birmingham University alumni page
[edit]Sorry, I was attempting to clean up the Birmingham University Alumni page by removing the references. The references appeared redundant or tautological, as there are links to all the subjects' Wikipedia articles which include all the references. Some of the references were added on the alumni page for subjects who did not have their own wikipedia articles, and so no longer appear necessary once an article had been created for them. Only some of the subjects had references on the Birmingham University Alumnus page, so there appears an inconsistency for some subjects to have references but not others.Mirrortoamermaid (talk) 10:36, 14 February 2015 (UTC)
- I appreciate your thoughtful reply. I've done a fair amount of work on "List of [Name of the university] people" lists. The lists have to be treat as an independent entity and if each and every names in the list are cited, the list goes on to become a Featured List. There are some inconsistencies on List of University of Birmingham alumni page. However, it will be better if every names in that page are cited. Here are some Featured List: List of Georgia Institute of Technology alumni, List of University of Central Florida alumni, and List of University of Waterloo people.
