Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

Contested deletion

[edit]

I was trying to create a wiki page for the company I co-founded 10 years ago. The "wizard" said I had to first create a page for myself and explain my affiliation. That's exactly what I did.

Furthermore, I now get a "Error contacting the Parsoid/RESTBase server (HTTP 400)" whenever I try to edit my user page.

Hello Unflyingobject -- Welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for attempting to disclose an editing conflict of interest. Creating an article on your own company is not encouraged; if you want to do this you must first read the instructions given at WP:Conflict of interest and follow them carefully, especially the section "How to disclose a COI", before going any further. I can't help with the code error, unfortunately. I've never seen that before. If the error persists, put {{help me}} on this page to request assistance. Espresso Addict (talk) 10:06, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, EspressoAddict! The error went away and I was finally able to save the COI info on my page. Now I'm trying to edit the page for the company and have run into other problems, but I think I can manage.

Excellent. I don't edit company pages but the Teahouse is a good place for newcomers to ask questions. By the way, on talk pages (like this one) you should always sign your comments by putting four tilde characters: ~~~~. (In the interface I use there's a little button to the right of bold and italic to do this, but your interface is probably totally different!) That will give you a signature and time stamp for your comments. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 10:46, 14 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
