Hey, no fair - you wikified your User page before I could badger you about it! - DavidWBrooks 16:51, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)

LOL. Sorry. I'll go blank it... UtherSRG 16:52, 9 Dec 2003 (UTC)

The George Clintons don't have middle names, so parenthesis were the only way to do it. We should try Paul F. Simon for the musician. --Jiang | Talk 02:42, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Hi again -- I realize you seem to have a lot of experience with wikis, but you're on the verge of starting an edit war with Jiang. He's experienced and respected, and it's not considered good form at Wikipedia to keep reverting something -- especially when it's near the top of the Main page. Just some friendly advice.... -- BCorr ? Брайен 05:33, 10 Dec 2003 (UTC)

No hard feelings at all re holidays edits :) Good job! jengod 07:00, 11 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Hi, I moved Timbaland off the the List of musical topics because theere is a List of musicians and List of musicians by genre-Hyacinth 02:25, 15 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for your work on list of Marvel Comics characters. Anyway, as it turns out, I won't be leaving Wikipedia :-) though I probably will be spending less time on Wikipedia than I have before :-(. --Lowellian 17:54, Dec 15, 2003 (UTC)

Interesting. It was exactly the same as first version of Andrew W. K. before that was heavily edited so I deleted it. Thanks for pointing it out to me. I'll lave the author a note to see if I can guide him to write something more encyclopedic. Angela. 03:54, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Edgar Ojeda makes some sense so I've listed it on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/foreign language rather than deleting it outright. Hopefully a Spanish speaker might translate it and make something out of it. Angela. 04:24, 17 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Hey, Mr. Computer Nerd of the Undersea World :-), you should be helping poor ol' Epopt with importing sub articles from DANFS. The big list shows how many are missing - CVs and BBs are done and cruisers are getting there, so you're running out of excuses. :-) Not too hard, we just clone boilerplate from the previous article and add wikilinks to discover the Navy's mistakes... Stan 04:20, 20 Dec 2003 (UTC)

No, I'm not going to write an article on liberal theology, but that is the right link from the Unitarian Universalist article, not to a disambiguation page. Fred Bauder 22:00, 31 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Making a blank page is better when you have put the wrong content in it. I could delete it if it would make you feel better. Fred Bauder 22:02, 31 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Sorry, but I'm busy doing something else, now that there is an empty link maybe someone may be motivated to write it. Fred Bauder 22:06, 31 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Ok, I have a minute, it used to be, and not that long ago that there were many links on Wikipedia that went to articles that had not been written. This was viewed as a signal that work was needed in that area. If the link is not empty that signal is lost and an editor has no way of knowing that that is an area that needs work. (This is one basis for the criticisms made about stubs. So a link to an empty article is a good thing from one point of view. However, I have noticed that sometimes casual users are a bit dismayed when they click to an empty link. I would say one reason there is no article on liberal theology is because the link to liberal gives a false signal to most who could write the article. I hope that explains why I didn't think there was a problem but an advantage to and empty article, Fred Bauder 23:48, 31 Dec 2003 (UTC)

Ok... What is the reason to have a self-link? - UtherSRG 00:36, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

The reason is that the article is about the concept of a fixed point. Michael Hardy 00:43, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

PS: Of course, in topics lists there's a different reason to have a self-link: in order that edits to the topics-list page will be included when you click on "related changes". Michael Hardy 00:43, 3 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Howdy; Where did you get the 'msg' from for USS George Washington?

Elde 00:45, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Cool. What made you decide to welcome me? L3prador 01:50, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Idea; Add to each hull classification scheme (SSBN) links to pages on each class? Elde 04:11, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Just to kibitz, SSBN is a ridiculous "article"; content is already on hull classification symbol, more details are under submarine etc. Stan 04:35, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)

I agree it's a pretty useless little stub. (Given the current philosophy of what Wikipedia is and isn't. I don't agree however that an online encyclopedia should shackle itself with the limitations of a dead-tree publication. There are reasons why such differences arose in dead-tree versions, and exactly none of them would seem to apply here.) See my comments at Talk:Hull classification symbol for a better way (IMO) to handle all these little stubs.

It's not really a paper/online issue, it's that you want to channel the reader from one meaty subject to another. Readers will get the "SSBN means ballistic missile sub" part pretty much instantaneously, then they want to know what are they like, when was the first one, why they exist, etc. Stan 07:34, 4 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Parrot[edit]

I thought we usually put things at the commonly-used name. That said, I'm not up to date with the Tree of Life project conventions. If it's agreed to move both Parrot pages, I'll gladly do the deletion. -- Tarquin 17:55, 5 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome message. A quick question: does my editing your "talk" page automatically trigger a "you have a message" flag that you'll see when you log in? If not, what does one do to converse with other Wiki-users? Thanks again. BTfromLA 02:10, 7 Jan 2004 (UTC)

Moving pages[edit]

It is impossible to move a page to an already existing page without having sysop powers or getting one to delete the previous page for you. Also this manner of moving, inserts an unrecorded edit (the move) and erases the edit history of the deleted page which is merely disjointed when cut-and-paste moving. Thanks for the welcome! Rdash 23:31, Jan 9, 2004 (UTC)

Thank you for the welcome, kind sir! I am trying to work on Tian Han, but the translation is extremely poor. (i will now sign my name as you suggested): Sennheiser

Diacritics[edit]

Please see Talk:Diacritic for why I changed your reference on Diacritics for bar (punctuation) to bar (diacritics). I am not 100% certain I made the right decision here, so if you feel I've made a mistake please comment there. — Jor 20:45, Jan 11, 2004 (UTC)

Minor changes[edit]

Your "mark all changes as minor by default" setting seems to be stuck on. Please take care with this: it is a discourtesy to other users. Remember, you should only mark a change as "minor" (and thus hide it from other users) when you are not changing anything that could be controversial or substantive. Thankyou for your courtesy in this. Tannin 23:10, 13 Jan 2004 (UTC)
