Thanks for adding a ton of good categories to Graves M. DCWC August update
The 2024 Developing Countries WikiContest has now been running for a month, and we've already seen some momentous improvement in the quality of many articles about underrepresented subjects! So far, our top-scoring participants are:
- Magentic Manifestations (submissions) – 338 points, mainly from nine good articles. He's a contender for the "most submissions for a single country" specialty award, with nine submissions for India.
- Arconning (submissions) – 305 points, including from six seasonally-appropriate Olympics-related good articles.
- Generalissima (submissions) – 290 points, the bulk from her featured article about Greenlandic interpreter Qalaherriaq and two China-related good articles.
- AirshipJungleman29 (submissions) – 245 points, mostly from the achievement of bringing Genghis Khan to featured status.
- Thebiguglyalien (submissions) – 144 points from three good articles, including two about Kiribati elections, and four reviews of good article nominees.
Looking for ways to climb up the leaderboard yourself? Help out your fellow participants by answering a few review requests, particularly the older entries. Why are you reverting my correction of Source 14, which is the wrong list? The text discussed top six in the Olympics, not the US Nationals-mine is the right list 2603:8000:713F:79F:4042:78CA:E096:5F85 (talk) 20:31, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

Resubmission of our wiki manuscript
Hi, Thank you for reviewing our wiki manuscript.
We have revised the manuscript according to your comments, by adding references at appropriate places.
The manuscript is now submitted again. Please review it. Thank you! EagleZju (talk) 05:58, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi there, thanks for resubmitting. It will be reviewed by any reviewer in due time. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 06:24, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
I have removed the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
tag from Auto-WEKA, which you proposed for deletion. I added secondary references as requested, which should demonstrate the general notability of the topic. If you still think this article should be deleted, please do not add {{proposed deletion}}
back to the page. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks!
Ehengbuda Unsourced lines removed
Hello. I accurately explained why. There was no source to what was written. Wikipedia works on citations. I thought this was the case? No? Do I need to provide my sources to remove inaccurate information? If someone writes anything they want and provide zero sources for it, for me to remove it I need to provide a source on why it is wrong? It'd up to the person who write an article to provide citations to back claims or it gets removed for lack of evidence.
If I get blocked or restricted contrary to Wikipedia rules for sourcing, I will have to submit this article for review to other members of Wikipedia. I see that you are involved in this article prior, but there is no gatekeeping of articles. Give citations for those lines if they are to remain there. Sources of Udagbedo colonisation of Lagos and sourcss for the expansion to Oyo and the likes. It reads like a personal blog with no sources. Wiisstlo (talk) 22:20, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Wiisstlo The reason this is more ridiculous is that, per WP:LEADCITE, you aren’t required to put citations in the lead of articles if, and only if, these details are expatiated on in the article body. You clearly aren’t aware of this and at the same time you’re behaving as if you are vast in Wikipedia’s policies. Kindly read through the article body and not just the lead of the article to find the sources that were specifically cited against statements like that. If you continue like this, it’s going to be disruptive of you.
- By the way, I worked so hard to take this article in question to the Good article status, which means another editor who is not me took their time to review and spot-check this article for coverage, broadness and accuracy. This is why there’s a green plus icon at the top right corner of the article page if you’re reading from desktop.
- If you’re heading to Udagbedo, you should also be very careful how you tag articles as opinionated, when they are clearly sourced to reliable sources. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 22:34, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- The status of an article doesn't make it okay to have unsourced claims and for gatekeeping edits. No article is above editing on Wikipedia as far as I know. Correct me if it wrong. Wiisstlo (talk) 23:28, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Vanderwaalforces, I hope you don't mind me cutting in here but @Wiisstlo is my mentee and left a message on my talk page and I ended up here.
- Wiisstlo, you are correct about both our requirement for sourcing and that there is no WP:OWNERSHIP of articles. But alas, neither of those are present here. WP:LEADCITE does allow for citations to be excluded from the lede if it is sourced in the body. In this case, it appears to me that all information in the lead is cited in the body. And the good article status is very much relevant here as an article would not have achieved that status if the problems you are alleging were actual problems present here. And while nobody can "own" an article, WP:STEWARDSHIP is perfectly acceptable, and in many cases beneficial. The line between the two can be rather fine, but Vanderwaalforces is clearly on the correct side of that line.
- You are correct that (almost) no article is above editing on Wikipedia (some limited exceptions), but to do so you have to understand the rules. Everything is a learning experience, and as far as I can see you've acted in good faith, which above all is what matters most. estar8806 (talk) ★ 01:34, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Estar8806 Thank you for your valuable input. My message combined with yours and the one AirshipJungleman29 left on Wiisstlo’s talk page is enough already.
- @Wiisstlo I saw that an IP made the same edits implying citations are needed in the article, I just reverted it. Please refrain from being disruptive and at most, disrespectful. Do not log out to make edits just to avoid scrutiny. I will be left with no option but to take this to ANI for further input if this continues. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 06:05, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

A continuation
Note that I've moved this from their user talk since they are blocked and angry, and this isn't a discussion we need to have there. Primefac (talk) 10:18, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Vanderwaalforces, they're already blocked for being a potty-mouth. Giving an additional warning is not helpful at best. Please be more considerate of the situation in the future. Primefac (talk) 23:52, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Primefac Should I have reverted their potty-mouth and negative language without dropping a message here on their talk page? Vanderwaalforces (talk) 05:54, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- Your first warning of them was perfectly fine, but then they were blocked (after their edits were reverted) so yes, a second warning post-block for their language was unnecessary, especially given how angry they seemed to be at the whole situation (i.e. templated messages aren't helpful in those sorts of situations). Primefac (talk) 10:18, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Primefac Oh, that's right. It is clear now. I mean, you know whenever a reversion is made especially with Twinkle, there's this pop-up that happens and it opens the user's talk page with a dialogue box. I usually go ahead to notify the user anytime I revert their edits. Of course, I will have to watch out next time. Thank you. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 10:23, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Sockpuppet investigation
An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Vanderwaalforces, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community. Removal of Edits
Hi, I noticed that edits I made to the page Igbo were removed. I would love to understand why this happened and how I can add them back. Balorma (talk) 02:37, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Balorma Hi there. You didn’t quite explain the reason for your edits and they are also breaking changes. First off, the article is a good article, this means that some users worked hard to get it to that status, and all the sources and details of the article was checked for quality and some other criteria. While your edits appeared to be in good faith and some were actually sourced, you also removed a large portion of the previous details that are clearly sourced, without explaining why. Before making these edits again, please go to the articles talk page and discuss what you’re adding, why you’re removing the significant texts that you’re removing from the article and so on. Happy editing. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 06:11, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
Format Help
Hello. Recently I am creating a draft.
For the articles on Wikipedia, while writing it, the infobox album is provided at the top. After that the lead section of the article is written. After publishing the edit, the first paragraph of the lead shows up above the infobox album in the final article. But for some reason, the lead paras in draft are remaining below the infobox unless I put the first para before the infobox album while writing it.
Can you please help me out and provide a solution.
Thanks BhikhariInformer (talk) 04:30, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- @BhikhariInformer Hi there. I think that is exactly how it is intended to work when viewing or editing on mobile. On mobile, whether you put the first paragraph before or after the infobox, it will appear before the infobox when you save. But if you have more than one paragraphs in the lead, the only the first paragraph will appear before the infobox, every other paragraph will come after the infobox. This is enforced by the MobileFrontend extension or so. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 08:25, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- Okay. I got it.

Article on Edward Dolman
Hello and thank you very much for reviewing my article. In response to your having pointed out that more citations are required, I have added several, and hope these have made the article stronger. I hope you will agree that I may now remove the header? Please let me know if you have any objections - thank you! Meekpanda (talk) 22:57, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Meekpanda Hi there. I think you also need to cite the sources for the awards. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 18:22, 27 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hello - thanks to your review, I have added several new citations since your kind response of 27 Aug. I have also added a photo and have made a number of further edits that have improved the article. In terms of your view that I need to cite the sources for the Legion of Honour awards, I was able to secure a photo of one of the two award certificates (and am working on the second). I converted this to a PDF - but I am struggling with how to add the file, and so far have been unable to achieve this satisfactorily. Might you have any advice? Thank you so much. Meekpanda (talk) 16:40, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Meekpanda Let me start by asking if you have any connection with Edward Dolman? Or are you Dolman yourself?
- You do not need to upload the award certificate to Wikipedia though, all you need to do is just cite a source that announced them, any reliable source in any language from anywhere. Just cite it and let’s see. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 17:26, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your quick response! No, I am not Edward Dolman. I met him many years ago and, like most in the art world, admired him greatly. My last encounter of any sort with him must have been at least six years ago at an event, and I am not in touch with him about this article. I was surprised to find that he was not included in Wikipedia, as were so many of his peers, and I decided to right the wrong. I asked his wife for her approval to create the page, and it was she who sent me the photo of the award certificate.
- Unfortunately it has been impossible to find an online citation in any language for foreign recipients of the Legion d'honneur. I have now reused the #2 citation - his biography, which I would think has been part of Phillips' website for ten years. As you say, let's see!
- Thank you again for your advice and support. Meekpanda (talk) 18:36, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

New article - Murshid
Hi
A new article on a Kay Kay Menon starrer web series Murshid (TV series) has been created.
I tried to make it look better by adding credible links. The show features very notable actors.
Request you to have a look and suggest how to make it better and if possible review it.
Thank you Filmy World (talk) 17:50, 28 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Filmyworldwiki Hi there. The sourcing is poor, I’m afraid. I also personally did a cursory search to find other sources, like Critical receptions from critics or watchers, couldn’t find any. There’s not enough significant coverages from multiple reliable sources to establish its notability. I guess it is WP:TOOSOON to have an article on it. If you have specific sources, that are not already used in the article, that you want me to look you can mention it. Vanderwaalforces (talk) 17:57, 28 August 2024 (UTC)

WikiCup 2024 August newsletter
The fourth round of the 2024 WikiCup ended on 29 August. Each of the 8 contestants who advanced to Round 4 scored at least 472 points, and the following contestants scored more than 700 points:

If two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether for a good article, featured content, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Remember to claim your points within 14 days of earning them, and importantly, before the deadline on 31 October.
If you would like to learn more about rules and scoring for the 2024 WikiCup, please see this page. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
