Hello

Hi, what was this about? Why did you translate an English article on enwiki into Portuguese? ThePlatypusofDoom (talk) 01:19, 6 January 2017 (UTC)

Endless Forms Most Beautiful

Actually, the copyeditor did that and they were most likely unaware of what a musical duel is. dannymusiceditor Speak up! 19:57, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

@DannyMusicEditor: Thank you for clarifying, I must have missed that edit, otherwise I would have corrected it. I had a little heart attack when I saw the word "duet", specially because sometimes people are annoyingly quick in pointing my non-native English skills. Victão Lopes Fala! 16:43, 1 March 2017 (UTC)

Revoke the SPAM Status of METALWANI.com

Hi Victor,

My name is Owais 'Vitek' Nabi and I am the owner of Metal Wani. I observed my website is blocked on Wikipedia due to some issues in the past. We are considered as one of the reliable sources in Heavy metal. Is there anyway you can help me get in touch with a person who can unblock it? I will be happy to provide any information needed :)

Looking forward to your reply :)

Brazilian music in the 1990s

Hey Victor Lopes! I just finished 1999 in Latin music and thus the '90s in Latin music articles are completed. I've added some Brazilian albums and a few events that I could find for each year, but I am not very knowledgeable about notable Brazilian albums. Would you by any chance interested by any chance in adding Brazilian albums and/or notable events in Brazil that happened in '90s? Erick (talk) 18:03, 20 March 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Titãs, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page G1. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Can you help verify translations of articles from language-Portuguese

Hello Victor Lopes,

Would you be able to help evaluate the accuracy of translations of Wikipedia articles from language-Portuguese to English Wikipedia?

File:Language icon.svg

This would involve evaluating a translated article on the English Wikipedia by comparing it to the original language-Portuguese article, and marking it "Pass" or "Fail" based on whether the translation faithfully represents the original. Here's the reason for this request:

There are a number of articles on English Wikipedia that were created as machine translations from different languages including language-Portuguese , using the Content Translation tool, sometimes by users with no knowledge of the source language. The config problem that allowed this to happen has since been fixed, but this has left us with a backlog of articles whose accuracy of translation is suspect or unknown, including some articles translated from language-Portuguese. In many cases, other editors have come forward later to copyedit and fix any English grammar or style issues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that the translation is accurate, as factual errors from the original translation may remain. To put it another way: Good English is not the same as good translation.

If you can help out, that would be great. Here's a sample of the articles that need checking:

  1. Península (Rio de Janeiro)  Pass
  2. Gérson_Andreotti  Fail
  3. Palmério_Dória  Pass (created by myself)
  4. Carrapatos_e_Catapultas  Pass
  5. Fajã_de_Lopo_Vaz  'Pass'

All you have to do, is compare the English article to the language-Portuguese article, and assess them "Pass" or "Fail" (the {{Pass}} and {{Fail}} templates may be useful here). (Naturally, if you feel like fixing an inaccurate translation and then assessing it, that's even better, but it isn't required.) Also please note that we are assessing accuracy not completeness, so if the English article is much shorter that is okay, as long as whatever has been translated so far is factually accurate. To see the full list of articles, please go to WP:CXT/PTR.

If you can help, please {{ping}} me here to let me know. You can add your pass/fails above, right next to each link, or you may indicate your results below. Thanks! Elinruby (talk) 06:58, 6 June 2017 (UTC)  Pass ✓ Pass  Fail ✗ FailĠ

@Elinruby:  Done, see above. Victão Lopes Fala! 06:16, 7 June 2017 (UTC)
@Mathglot: (pinging my collaborator) Awesome, thank you very much! want to do some more? It's optional of course. But I have been doing Portugese more or less because nobody else is, and I'd love to have someone check those over as I am almost certainly missing some subtleties no matter how careful I am. Elinruby (talk) 00:19, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
@Elinruby: Of course! Should I just check WP:CXT/PTR to see what's to be done? Victão Lopes Fala! 04:41, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
@Victor Lopes: please do. You might want to search the list there for Goa, pt, and Mozambique, for a start. I also keep misspelling Portuguese as Portugese, fyi. 04:49, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
@Victor Lopes: btw for Fajã_de_Lopo_Vaz are you saying that once the article was accurately translated from pt to en, then information was added to the english translation? If so, that is a pass for purposes of this project. Here's an example of what we are trying to check for: In some of the articles about Brazilian politics the name "Cunha" was translated "wedge" -- also we are looking got articles where someone who translated word for word, and chose the wrong words for the translation. If the pt and the en both have material the other does not, well, let me know and we'll figure out what to do . Thanks for the help. Elinruby (talk) 05:01, 8 June 2017 (UTC)
@Elinruby: Yes, it was accurately translated at first and then expanded and rewritten, so I marked it as a "pass" now. I'll check the page now and then, but I will initially focus on articles related to Brazil; there are considerable differences between Brazilian Portuguese and European/African Portuguese, which would require a more careful analysis by me. Victão Lopes Fala! 05:00, 9 June 2017 (UTC)
You can keep checking it if you want but it's not required for this project, which just seeks to identify articles where translation errors have occurred. I understand what you are saying about differences since there is a similar gap in French, my second language, between Quebec and the Congo. Do whatever you feel able to do, and by the way, as a separate matter, I also need help at Impeachment of Dilma Rousseff, but that is a long-term project. That one really does need some long-term commitment as there is some point of view stuff going on in addition to the language issues. Elinruby (talk) 10:10, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

@Elinruby: Ah yes, I remember scrolling through the article's talk page couple of weeks back. Quite a thorny topic we have there, but I can help. Victão Lopes Fala! 20:33, 10 June 2017 (UTC)

Reaching into Infinity

Hello. First off, I'm not gonna talk to you in some super formal language, I'm gonna tell you straight. Genre is a matter of facts, even if the band claims they're not a certain genre, that's really irrelevant if their songs obviously belong there. If Guns N' Roses said that they play hip-hop, that won't make them hip-hop.

It's obvious that Evil Dead and a section The Edge of the World are death metal, GLORIA is obviously J-Rock, or at least J-Metal, the use of choirs, battle choirs, marching snares (Reaching Into Infinity, Ashes of the Dawn) make it partially symphonic metal, and obviously DF mentioned in many interviews that there'll be experimental vocals and overall experimental stuff, would make The Edge of the World fall under experimental metal (experimental anything means that they're trying out something new is something that little to nobody else does, in this case mixing power metal with death metal), and finally, give WAR a listen, those are obviously thrash metal riffs.

First off, here's some interviews for you if that's not enough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lvNs3OMLzc https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGBWQ60Dntc

It's not a personal impression of the album, it's just a matter of facts, give the album a listen.

The article Insensível has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. No references, no charting

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
