Hi voorts. Could you change your signature? It drops a reference at the bottom of every talk page you comment on. I don't think Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).

References

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Tim O'Doherty -- Tim O'Doherty (talk) 20:23, 9 July 2023 (UTC)

The article Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston for comments about the article, and Talk:Built to Spill Plays the Songs of Daniel Johnston/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Your draft

Excellent work. I'll approve it, but I've got to get rid of the pesky redirect standing in the way. I've put in the proper request, and now we wait. By the way, you can create articles directly, no need for AfC submission. Festucalextalk 06:11, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

@Voorts: Done! It's live. Please add categories. Festucalextalk 07:04, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks! I know I can create articles without AfC, I'd just never done it before and assumed it would go from draft to published quickly (which I guess it did!); I kinda blew past the screen where it told me that it might take four months. I've requested to be an AfC participant so I can help reduce the backlog. voorts (talk/contributions) 12:15, 15 July 2023 (UTC)
@Voorts: This actually happened to me as well. I submitted Martyrs of Campo di Marte to AfC despite not having to. Well, you were kinda lucky that I happened to pick up that draft so quickly. Next time, simply move the page from draftspace to mainspace yourself. Happy editing! Festucalextalk 12:36, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

DYK for October 1 (film)

On 20 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article October 1 (film), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Nigerian film October 1 could not be released on October 1, the country's Independence Day? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/October 1 (film). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, October 1 (film)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Determination of consensus

Regarding this comment: many articles have few watchers, and their associated WikiProject talk pages aren't actively watched either, so a lot of discussions don't get a lot of participation, and thus are decided by whatever set of people happen to comment at the time. Even the outcomes for article for deletion discussions are subject to the whims of whoever happened to be active that week. Unfortunately, In the News is not unique in this way. isaacl (talk) 13:47, 16 July 2023 (UTC)

Yes, but closers at AfD, etc., should ostensibly be discarding arguments that don't reflect policy, guidelines, or well-established, written consensus (as opposed to silent norms). From the discussion, I'm learning that policy, guidelines, and consensus apparently don't really exist at ITN. voorts (talk/contributions) 14:05, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
Many closers refer to Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators § Rough consensus for guidance on determining consensus in discussions, which allows for discounting arguments that are counter to policy, but not guidelines. This follows English Wikipedia tradition that guidance is based on the outcomes of content discussions and that consensus can change, rather than guidelines prescribe results. For better or worse, this means the results of many discussions will vary depending on the arguments of the current set of participants. isaacl (talk) 23:22, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
