Would this be what you call a "newbie bite"? When I got the article in question in my view it looked like it needed some white space to separate a pair parentheses. That's all. My edit was tagged "new editor getting started" I'm surprised you went to the trouble making a revert and notifying me.
I notice you likewise had teething problems when you began. William Reid Boyd (talk) 11:07, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, not newbie biting at all. Having reverted your edit, and precisely because of the new editor tag, I posted the standard template referring you to the sandbox. Precisely because everyone has teething problems. But there's no need to make a big thing about it. --Technopat (talk) 13:21, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, OK. Thank you for that. I only responded because it looked a bit schoolmasterly to me and I didn't fit in much at school :(. Thank you for your welcome above. That was nice of you. William Reid Boyd (talk) 21:53, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The Anne and the Little James

[edit]

I do not understand your template. This article links to Robert Cushman, William Bradford (Plymouth governor), Mayflower and Plymouth Colony and many other articles on Wiki..

Also, although you italicized the ships in some places, you took it out in other places in the text.

In addition, I have never had to do "categories" in any of my articles.

Would you please explain more thoroughly? Thank you. Mugginsx (talk) 14:42, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mugginsx. I was simply reviewing your article (which I think is a good one incidentally) using the Curator software suite. It identified that your article was an "orphan" and that's why I tagged the article as such. What that means is not that your article doesn't link to other articles, which it certainly does, but that other articles (or very few of them) don't link to yours, something only a computer program can discover. The fix for that is simple. You just go to Wikipedia article which mention these ships, I expect there are a few, and wikilink them. Example sentence: "The pilgrims left in the ship ''[[The Anne and the Little James | Anne]]'', which appears as "The pilgrims left in the ship Anne". One bonus is that people are more likely to find and read your article as a result.
As for catgories you should include them in articles. Try looking at articles on similar topics to give you ideas.
I italicised all the names I could find in line with the Manual of Style, I might well have missed some.
Interesting article! William Reid Boyd (talk) 16:33, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I understand. Will do. Thanks, Mugginsx (talk) 17:10, 6 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
