Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, Goodnaturedinc. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. — Amkgp 💬 20:00, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business or other organisation or group or a web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Warning icon Please refrain from hijacking pages as you did with Solegear Bioplastics. Should you believe the subject you were writing about deserves an article, please use the Article Wizard, which has an option to create a draft version that you can then get feedback on. Also see Wikipedia's disambiguation guideline which indicates how to handle separate subjects with similar names. If you continue to hijack an existing article, you may be blocked from editing. If you have any questions, you are always welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. S0091 (talk) 22:00, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Striking this warning due to my misunderstanding of the situation. Apologies to Goodnaturedinc. You had a valid issue but unknowingly went about it the wrong way. In the future, please feel free to make an edit request on the now renamed article's talk page. S0091 (talk) 23:33, 1 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for your response and understanding - my lack of experience here has caused a big issue that was certainly not intentional! I'll collect up a list of the outdated information that's currently on the page and suggest those edits on the talk page if I'm able. I have to check as I believe I'm still blocked from all functionality and not sure how to address that issue after having submitted a proposed new user name. 174.6.101.23 (talk) 21:10, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I'm very happy to remove any content that feels too promotional and keep it very short and sweet. I'm just trying to update company information since it was re-named from Solegear Bioplastics to Good Natured Products. The information is currently very outdated on the Solegear_Bioplastics page. Thought it would be more credible to sign in, create a new article and do any proposed changes to ensure everything is verifiable.

Decline reason:

Procedural close: There is a more recent unblock request on this page. SQLQuery me! 00:27, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Goodnaturedinc (talk) 21:05, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Are you affiliated with Good Natured Products / Solegear Bioplastics? SQLQuery me! 23:18, 28 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This page is a copy-and-paste of the page that was at Solegear Bioplastics. I have moved that page to Good Natured Products after verifying that it is the same company.

I have also nominated that page for deletion on notability grounds. These discussions typically run for a week. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 🎄 02:09, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rename not successful

[edit]

The chosen username is too similar to an existing username or it used to be username of someone else that got renamed: Jillian2017. Please choose again. --Deepfriedokra (talk) 11:05, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Thanks to all for your assistance to help me rectify the issues with my user name and account block. I understand the new user name I proposed will not work, so have proposed another. I'm a newcomer and thought I was editing carefully to respect the quality of content, but still have lots to learn! I am associated with Good Natured Products/Solegear Bioplastics. It was not my intention to introduce content that was too promotional and was planning to keep editing to be just factual and updated to reflect updated company information since it hadn't been touched since 2017. Clearly did not do this correctly, but I welcome any input that helps me get it right.

Decline reason:

Per below, the unblock request has been withdrawn. SQLQuery me! 22:33, 28 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please take a moment to read Wikipedia:Plain_and_simple_conflict_of_interest_guide - particularly the large-print, bullet-pointed list at the top. If unblocked, would you still be interested in editing, if you had to adhere to those rules? SQLQuery me! 23:42, 29 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks very much for your response and guidance. Yes, I remain interested in editing, but the goal was really for purposes of correcting company details that are outdated. I had thought the best way to be transparent would be to edit under a User Name that was clearly associated with the company, but I now understand that was not the correct way to proceed. Am I understanding correctly that I should disclose on the Talk page that any edits or additions made by my user name (proposed to be YVRJillian2020) are coming from someone with a direct connection to the company? It was never my intention to hide the company association, and fully support any measures that help support the objective quality of Wikipedia content. This has all been caused by my lack of experience and not an intent to do any harm, I can assure you. 174.6.101.23 (talk) 20:47, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It is unlikely, in my experience, that you will be unblocked in order to edit about your company directly. That's why I asked if you had read the COI guide - particularly the bulleted list, the second line reads "Do not edit articles about yourself, your family or friends, your organization, your clients, or your competitors.". I was asking if you would still be interested in editing, if you couldn't write directly about your company.
This project is an encyclopedia - the sum of all human knowledge, not a business directory. SQLQuery me! 00:22, 31 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

The original article under "Solegear Bioplastics" was initiated much earlier on and possible prior to there being the same review processes in place, and I agree it serves no one to have Wikipedia turn into a business directory. I see the new article named "Good_Natured_Products" is marked as possibly for deletion, and I wonder whether that's the best possible outcome. If I'm not able to edit the page and the information is woefully outdated, then it would probably be better for all if both the "Solegear_Bioplastics" and "Good_Natured_Products" articles disappeared entirely. Is this possible? 174.6.101.23 (talk) 21:03, 4 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you made the above comment; make sure you are logged in before posting. It appears that the article was deleted. To be unblocked, you will need to tell us what topics you want to edit about that are unrelated to your conflict of interest. 331dot (talk) 10:50, 25 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks you 331dot. Yes, that was me, but at the time was blocked from being able to log in and comment. No need to unblock this user name as it was created only to try to update the outdated company info, which we know better now how to go about that if required. With the article deleted, all is good. Thank you! Goodnaturedinc (talk) 01:50, 27 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
