The voting phase of the eighth coordinator elections, for the October–March term, started on 13 September and will run until 23:59 Sat 26 September.
Each candidate garnering twenty or more endorsements will be appointed, to a maximum of fifteen. This election has a strong field of sixteen candidates running, offering many skills and representing all aspects of the project.

Project news

People with an interest in clearly presenting battle information, and First World War buffs, will find the discussion about a new campaign box for the Battle of the Somme interesting.
With the recent increase in enthusiasm, Wikipedia-wide, for creating "outline" articles, there's an ongoing discussion here. The idea is to produce guidelines for overview articles for Milhist editors and reviewers.
Proposals have been made to introduce a new self-scoring "honour" system for Contest Department entries. Contributions, especially from regular nominees, are welcome.

Contest Department

The Contest department has completed its twenty-ninth month of competition, with 145 articles entered by 13 editors. Sturmvogel 66 was placed first again this month with an amazing 101 points, closely followed by Georgejdorner at 98 points. They receive the Chevrons and the Writer's Barnstar respectively. Parsecboy commendably came third with 88 points, with honorable mentions going to AustralianRupert (68), Kumioko (66), Ed! (32), Ian Rose (26) and radek (11). Our thanks go to AM, David Underdown, Work permit, Yellow Monkey and Wild Wolf, who also fielded entries.

Awards and honours

The Milhist A-Class medal goes to: Parsecboy for König class battleship, SMS König, and Derfflinger class battlecruiser; and to Ed! for 7th Infantry Division (United States), 24th Infantry Division (United States) and I Corps (United States).

Editorial: Getting to FAC via A-Class - some interesting new facts

Well, it’s official. Milhist articles have a much better than average chance of success as featured article candidates. MBK004 has done some useful number-crunching following the fortunes of the 97 Milhist featured article candidates submitted between January and July this year. The research shows that 70% of Milhist articles were promoted against an overall average of 51%.

Looking behind the figures, some other interesting facts emerge. First, 84% of our promoted articles had successfully passed a Milhist A-Class Review before going on to FAC. Second, of the 29 Milhist articles that failed, less than half (41%) had had an A-Class Review. Third, the 97 Milhist articles accounted for 16% of all FACs submitted between January and July of this year.

The clear lesson is that if you want a string of featured articles to your credit, you may find Milhist's A-class Review process to be of benefit to you! Roger Davies ^talk

If they had a Hutton/Hammond/Bradman/Ponsford mindset they would. I could see even Hauritz taking 7/40 against these guys. I think even Yuvraj could do it. The socks on Talk:Australia are giving me a laugh with his 200 countries. Unless he's going to count AFL being active in 20 countries like the 2005 Australian Football International Cup. The likes of American Samoa are down there with the Japanese AFL team. They showed it on the TV news and some of those guys in the Japanese team couldn't even kick the ball 10 metres because they kept edging it. You'd probably have more luck emailing the Federation of Indian Students or whatever, although I doubt the guy is serious. Confusing copyright[edit]

Hello YellowMonkey. I had uploaded an Image File:Sunrise at the Hali Aji Dargah & Masjid.jpg. It was licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 License. But suddenly, I found at the bottom of the Image a note saying Copyright Steve Kelly 2008. Is this Image indeed free or is it copyrighted. Possible owner Steve has recently changed the copyright status from CCA 2.0 (Some rights reserved) to All rights reserved. The Image was uploaded by FlickruploadBot to Commons. That confirms that the Image was indeed CC 2.0 licensed. I don't think that's our concern, since that image was CC 2.0 licensed when we uploaded it. Well there is a possibility that the uploader took someone else's property and just bogusly released it as CC, or then claimed it for himself. It might not be what it seems. Coromandel Cricket Club[edit]

You deleted the article Coromandel Cricket Club with the deletion summary nn, which I assume is an attempt to invoke the speedy deletion criterion A7. However, I had declined an A7 speedy of the article in preference to an AfD discussion. The discussion was held and the article was kept. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Coromandel Cricket Club. Common practice and the deletion policy say that articles which have been kept at AfD should not be speedy deleted because of the issues addressed in the discussion. If a page has survived a prior deletion discussion, it should not be speedy deleted except for newly discovered copyright violations.[1]. I ask that you restore the article and seek a new AfD if you feel that it is obviously non-notable. Persecution of Falun Gong in the People's Republic of China[edit]

I'm looking at some of our older indefinite semiprotections and this one has come up in my list. The semiprotection log seems to be at Persecution of Falun Gong for some reason, and it looks as if you left it semiprotected after a period of full protection.

I wonder if you have a feel for this article's stability and whether it's likely to be an immediate vandalism target if we unprotect. It was more of a sock/meat attack from the usual FLG diehards and the hardcore nationalists who interpret love of China to be no complaints about the govt whatsoever, or think that anyone who disagrees with the govt is a CIA agent. Template:Infobox cricketer tour biography[edit]

Hi,

Regardless of the current AfD debate(!) - in respect to the above mentioned template, I was wondering whether it would be worth coding the template so that instead of the date and opposition of the "first test on tour"/"last test on tour" (e.g. 8 August 1948 v England) it simply read First Test/Second Test etc. As all the Tests for all the players are against England it seems a bit clumsy. It wouldn't work quite so well with "Brian Lara with the West Indies in England in 19xx" or whatever, which may have limited-overs matches against other teams.

Just a thought anyway.

I noticed you never finished Australian cricket team in India in 2000–01. Looks good. Did you forgot or loose interest. I suppose you would have wrote it when you wrote Harbhajan? Yeah that was when I did it. I stopped doing proactive article work on subcontinental articles after about May 2007 after a rather ghastly orgy of doubledealing by certain members of subcontinental Wikiprojects, eg asking a bunch of guys to revert Pakistanis for them and giving them barnstars for it (they were too scared to revert rubbish themselves) and then trying to get their workers banned after they got rid of the Pakistanis, allegedly due to concern for Pakistanis and Muslims and anti-bigotry or whatever, even though they themselves had expressed the same sentiment about Pakistanis and Muslims. They did the latter using email conversations and "testimony" but they started threatening to dob each other in (just by lying in testimonies) if they didn't get what they wanted. In the end a pile of emails started circulating all written by the same guy(s) but all self-contradicting. Some of them even changed their stories multiple times on wiki. The real reason was that one of the workers had an argument with the ruling class and they decided to dispose of them. However the very wise leaders forgot that the workers were the ones doing the hit jobs for them and took about a month to realise that their (former) soldiers weren't going to roll over and kill themselves for them, and our fake Gandhis weren't willing to brawl with their own hands. I decided I wasn't going to give some crooks a free lunch there and then by hanging around too deeply there, not to mention the framing attempts. It was a grim affair, but at least one of our wise double-dealing friends managed to shoot himself in the foot by taking out the goose that laid his golden eggs. I was going to finish off the mainly done retired players first, as the other three are the most likely to get thrown off a few years down the track for not being updated, which makes it a bit pointless. On another note did you notice User:D climacus nonsense on Bidgee and my talkpage. I was thinking he was a sock because how he sections on his userpage relevant to admins. And User:Sarah fueled the speculations by saying

Found it, good move, T20 doesn't do anything for established players unless they need/want money badly. If he's only going to be there for half a season, KKR/him might as well part ways as half the pay is worth much for him and they would be better off completely rebuilding their team anyway. A lot of the Indians like to think of themselves as Bollywood stars and all that and are pretty ill-hit Dhoni doesnt slog sixes in matches any more, but in the nets I saw him go for aerial slogs from about 50% of the balls. The players also spend a lot of time heckling their mates, and none of them even do one lap of the oval (you should read John Wright's quote in his book about them going around more slowly than a "snail with a double hip replacement" or when they went to training they gave their bags to the porter boy and sat down drinking tea). India is lucky that the usual harnosed sporting countries like Germany, Netherlands, US, Russia, China, Japan, France etc don't play cricket otherwise they would always get pummelled. The admins don't care as well. The cricket historian Boria Majumdar came to Adelaide last year and said all this stuff at a talk about the various unnamed BCCI members and state delegates taking bribes for everything and threatening the other guys with thugs. Oh, you would have seen them train in Adelaide. Can't Image Ganguly doing much running. With the IPL, I don't think the commitment is there with Indian players now. Like with Symmo. He slept with his Baggy Green when he got it, and now with the IPL it seems as if he couldn't care less. Greg Chappell tried to get them out of their comfort zone and they didn't like it. I can't see India ever doing any good consistently unless Australia/England/WI etc are all hopeless. While it seems that England/WI might have gone permanently, I'm not sure Australia will. All the money goes into someone's pockets instead of training youngsters, and the fitness staff will just get sacked if they ask the players something disapprovingly like "why are you so lazy?". John Gloster got them the ODI team to line up against the fence and do some stretches (only five minutes, and no running). SRT just leaned against the fence and did nothing, Harbhajan leaned on the fence and told jokes to Praveen Kumar, Sehwag, Munaf and Yuvraj leaned on the bench and did nothing, and Sreesanth leaned on the fence and chatted to the kids. No wonder they get injured so much and are so slow. If Michael Phelps or Ian Thorpe decided to stop doing laps and start talking to some girl next to them, the coach would angrily shout at them in front of them, probably with obscenities. India need a Don Talbot-like guy to expel lazy people, even if they are the main breadwinners, like Neil Brooks. Only Gambhir, Raina, Dinesh Karthik and Rohit took it seriously, hardly a surprise either given their agility and fielding ability. Whereas when the Australians were batting they were told to imagine that the fielders were in such and such a place and they were trying to rectify something. I'd love to see Inzy at training. SRT is fairly quick considering. Southern Australia's dominate sports cricket and AFL are all run well at a junior level. Soccer and Tennis are poorly run, therefore our international results aren't as good. Read something in the paper how a junior tennis tournament had to postpone after 3pm the tournament because the courts were booked out by and organization. Silly. No I haven't been actually and I don't want to pay to watch Mark "I can be infinitely fat and it will have no effect on my performance" Cosgrove, or Dan Cullen, he always pulls his sleeves up so that he is almost sleeveless. He's a spinner not Ray Lindwall or Frank Tyson or an AFL player, and there's no need to get skin cancer......Soccer Australia used to be like the BCCI with all the Italian/Greek/Croatian etc etc factions battling it out, until they banned ethnic-based clubs. Lowy will turn it around although there are hardly any technically educated coaches around for the millions of kids who want to play.
