Description
[edit]This project assists in creating, editing and improving articles involving nonviolence, the philosophy and strategy for social change that rejects the use of physical violence. These articles may include, but are not limited to: different nonviolent philosophies, strategies, actors, and actions. While the Anti-war project focuses its attention on "any movement or ideology that opposes war in general or opposes specific wars or opposes the involvement of its country/government in war in general or specific wars," nonviolence itself is not limited to anti-war activities. Nonviolent actions may involve non-war related social and political change within a nation, such as the Velvet Revolution, the Indian independence movement and the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
Project Mission
[edit]This is a WikiProject about nonviolence. Our mission is to develop a comprehensive and structured set of well-written Wikipedia articles on nonviolence (and its related topics) by:
- creating, improving and maintaining informative, well-written articles about all notable people, events and subjects that concern nonviolence.
- maintaining an efficient and navigable category system to ensure that all nonviolence related articles can easily be found by interested readers
- creating and maintain templates useful for editing and standardizing nonviolence related articles
- increasing the number of well-written nonviolence related articles by expanding all stubs to start-class and improving all start-class articles to B-class at least
This mission statement is currently under discussion at WT:-V
Departments
[edit]Adopt an article
[edit]Similar to the Collaboration of the week, but on a smaller scale, you might want to "adopt" an article. This would involve doing the research, writing, and picture-taking (if possible) for either a non-existent article or a stub. Of course, everyone else can still edit an adopted article, and you can work on other things too, but the idea is to find a focus for a while, to try and build up the number of quality articles the Project has produced.
