off topic, argue about this elsewhere please. Beeblebrox (talk) 17:44, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Delete this talk page with an immediate effect. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ngc007 (talkcontribs) 07:57, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What talk page? You have not made any edits to Wikipedia using this user account other than this one edit to the Help page. We're certainly not going to delete the Help page, and if you edited something else using an IP or a different account we have no idea what page it was. Meters (talk) 08:07, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think a simple "Huh?" would have been enough. EEng 11:37, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@EEng: Huh?
See, not so helpful. When someone leaves an unintelligible post, most of the time they do not realize why it is unintelligible, so even if "huh" indicates there is a problem, and gets a grin from the peanut gallery of those-who-know-what-is-going-on, actually explaining the problem is better. I would guess Ngc007 (ping) has not yet a full grasp of information technology as related to Wikipedia. TigraanClick here to contact me 15:57, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Well, since it's been two days and the OP hasn't responded, or indeed made any edit further edit at all, it seems impossible that my approach would have been any less effective than yours. EEng 16:28, 23 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That is easier to say after the fact (and even then, the optimal strategy ex post was to not even bother typing the four characters and pressing publish changes). What matters is ex ante; for sure the majority of incomprehensible posts come from hit-and-runners, but not all of them, and you have no way to know which. how to edit the wiki pedia title

[edit]

hi sir please give me suggestion — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gummadavelly123 (talkcontribs) 12:04, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you're looking for something other than Special:MovePage, you need to be clearer. {{3x|p}}ery (talk) 12:37, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You seem to be wanting to create a new article, which you can do by copying an existing one and changing the details, but you must not just change the existing article. Your edits have been reverted. See WP:Your first article. Dbfirs 17:00, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Revert policy during discussion of content

[edit]

If someone deletes content from an article and a discussion ensues with no consensus, is there any policy on whether the content might be restored or must remain deleted during the interminable discussion? Jzsj (talk) 16:01, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Our guideline on how to proceed when consensus cannot be reached is at WP:DISPUTE. It's frustrating, but please try to assume that all parties to the discussion are trying to build a better encyclopedia. This is especially hard when you have become convinced that it is not true, but try anyway. See WP:AGF. -Arch dude (talk) 16:55, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'm prepared to abide by guidelines when they are presented, but here I'm asking where it is specifically said that the one deleting the material from an article should prevail while consensus is being sought. Is it wrong to try to revert the deletion to the original state until the discussion is arbitrated or resolved? Must the deleter prevail during this period? Jzsj (talk) 17:07, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know of a specific guideline for this. Perhaps another denizen of the help desk can comment. I do know that the overarching philosophy is that it does not matter what the current article state is, because Wikipedia is not news and we will eventually arrive at the correct state. We see this most dramatically when an administrator protects an article during an edit war, where the administrator is not supposed to prefer a particular state. (WP:PREFER). There are exceptions, especially for unreferenced negative material in a biography of a living person. -Arch dude (talk) 17:32, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's reassuring that you find no specific guideline on who gets the last edit during a discussion. I simply restored the deleted material during a protracted discussion and then did one revert when the restored material was again removed. When it was again deleted I let it go. Jzsj (talk) 17:45, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:STATUSQUO, I often restore the last stable version from before the content dispute and/or edit war. --Guy Macon (talk) 18:35, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A question

[edit]

What to do with TV shows that are in limbo(status unclear).... When can there be put an ending date to them on their respective pages(instead of present)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.93.201.154 (talk) 20:24, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That would be when an end date is published in a reliable source.--Shantavira|feed me 08:42, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Natalie Woods

[edit]

You have her death stated as 1981, but she starred in the movie Brainstorm in 1983 ?...Just curious. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RushChef (talkcontribs) 23:06, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@RushChef: Later in the article you will find the phrase "At the time of her death, Wood was filming the science fiction film Brainstorm (1983),". Please sign your posts on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~). Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 23:20, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Name's just Wood, in case that wasn't a typo. A common general misconception, I find. Anyway, many stars are in the same boat. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:35, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to upload a photo?

[edit]

Hello, I want to replace a photo on the Arthur Caplan page. It is a "free" photo -- no copyright issues. I went to your instruction page but I am still quite confused. I submitted the photo a long time ago for consideration and just noticed that the request had been deleted. Help! EthicsMatters (talk) 23:44, 21 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean it is a "free" photo? What copyright license is it under? Is there a source link? Did you personally take the photo yourself? --Majora (talk) 00:09, 22 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The photo was taken by the NYU communications department. It should be credited Courtesy of NYU Langone Health. Can you tell me how to proceed with actually placing the new picture on his page? Thanks very much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EthicsMatters (talkcontribs) 22:51, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@EthicsMatters: You don't. It is likely copyrighted and unless it is released under a free license, which is not the same as posted on the Internet for people to see, it can't be uploaded here. --Majora (talk) 23:05, 24 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
