January 26[edit]

songs?[edit]

does anyone know of songs like "summer of '69", "jukebox hero", and "shooting star"? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.43.78.36 (talk) 06:02, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has articles on all of these songs: Summer of '69 is a song by Bryan Adams, Juke Box Hero is by Foreigner and Shooting Star is by Bad Company. If you mean "Any songs about people getting started in rock and roll bands", then there is also the unsurprisingly titled song Rock and Roll Band by the band Boston, and Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out by Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band. --Jayron32 06:11, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

the latter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.43.78.36 (talk) 06:21, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Byrds "So You Want to Be a Rock 'n' Roll Star". Same title, different band - Barclay James Harvest. Tom Petty "Into the Great Wide Open". --TammyMoet (talk) 09:03, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"Formed a Band" by Art Brut. Maybe also "Skip Tracer" by Sonic Youth. --Colapeninsula (talk) 09:47, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
AC/DC's It's a long way to the top comes to mind. From a more cynical angle, there's Welcome to the Machine by Pink Floyd -- Ferkelparade π 09:59, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think Have a Cigar is more pertinent than Welcome to the Machine, Ferkelparade... --TammyMoet (talk) 12:48, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That too, of course. I somehow managed to fuse both songs into one in my memory. Have A Cigar fits the bill perfectly, but I still think that lines like "You bought a guitar to punish your ma" and "What did you dream? It's alright, we told you what to dream" from Welcome to the Machine are quite pertinent -- Ferkelparade π 13:19, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"Rock and Roll (I Gave You the Best Years of My Life)", by Kevin Johnson (singer). Mitch Ames (talk) 12:29, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe WOLD by Harry Chapin fits the bill too, as it outlines the morning DJ's progression through the years. --TammyMoet (talk) 12:49, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Two with a large portion of nostalgia: "Sono solo canzonette" by Edoardo Bennato and "Looking for an Echo"---Sluzzelin talk 12:58, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A few others which are a bit cryptic and cynical: "Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows and "Anyone Can Play Guitar" by Radiohead. --Jayron32 13:50, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"Sultans of Swing"? Ghmyrtle (talk) 15:26, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Oooh. Good one. One of my faves, can't believe I forgot it. Similarly, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" by the Beatles is another one in that vein, as is "Down on the Corner" by CCR. --Jayron32 15:29, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The Best Ever Death Metal Band Out Of Denton by The Mountain Goats.Tinfoilcat (talk) 15:27, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Johnny B. Goode and the follow-ups, "Bye Bye Johnny", "Go Go Go", and "Johnny B. Blues", all by Chuck Berry. StuRat (talk) 17:38, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"The Cover of the Rolling Stone". The Mark of the Beast (talk) 21:50, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"Money for Nothing" (song)" for the outsider view. Rmhermen (talk) 02:56, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wikilink that works: Money for Nothing (song). --NorwegianBlue talk 23:36, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Frank Zappa's Joe's Garage—the song I was thinking of, but perhaps the whole thing counts too. Pfly (talk) 23:56, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just an update about several Microsoft Train Simulator Add-Ons taken down from rusnakweb.com[edit]

Hi,

I sent rusnakweb.com an e-mail about the MSTS add-ons being taken down and they didn't reply. Do you know why? *sigh* They no longer have support for MSTS add-ons. 68.224.119.202 (talk) 18:31, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Most likely you're going to have to be patient and see if they do reply, because you're asking the few people who know their situation. Out of curiosity, any thought about Googling or Binging "Microsoft Train Simulator add-ons" to look for other sources? --McDoobAU93 18:46, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Try out our article on the tournament, as it has all the cities listed. --McDoobAU93 20:04, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
And if you attend, I suggest avoiding calling them "girls".--Wehwalt (talk) 21:19, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why would the OP call college-age girls anything other than girls? :)) 80.122.178.68 (talk) 22:16, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Because they're bigger than he is.--Wehwalt (talk) 22:36, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Might well be. :) I had an epiphany about this issue some years ago when talking to a youngish (but over-21) female colleague who was talking about her peers as "girls". I asked why "girls" instead of "women"? She answered, "Women are OLD!" ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 22:39, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, BB, a woman saying something gives no license for you to do the same. Believe me.--Wehwalt (talk) 23:02, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
