Description
[edit]This WikiProject is focused on creating and better organize information in articles related to Dacia and the history of Daco-Getae.
It fits well under the parent WikiProject History.
Here is a Cat Scan of some of the Dacia related categories: Category names starting with Dacia
At this point, a majority of the articles are unfortunately stubs. Great starting points would be these main lists on Dacia:
- List of Dacian cities
- List of Dacian tribes
- List of Dacian kings
- List of Dacian chiefs
- List of Dacian names
- List of Dacian plant names
The lists are long and point to many missing individual articles. We need all help we can get.

Discussion
[edit]Update: Project was created based on received support! Let's make it happen! Wikipedia:WikiProject Dacia
Starting with the List of Dacian cities, I created a few articles for towns which could be used as templates for further work:
The template {{Dacia-stub}} can be used to mark any new Dacia article or existing one that needs a lot of work.
Here are some the main categories that group Dacia related articles:
- Category:Dacia
- Category:Dacia stubs
- Category:Dacian towns
- Category:Dacian kings
- Category:Dacian language
- Category:Dacian deities
- Category:Dacian gods
- Category:Roman Dacia
- Category:Moesia
- Category:Ancient Thrace
- Category:Thracians
- Category:Thracian kings
- Category:Thraco-Illyrian
- Category:Ancient history of Romania
- Category:Ancient history of the Carpathian-Dniester area
- Category:Ancient tribes in Romania
- Category:Ancient tribes in the Balkans
- Category:Ruins in Romania
- Category:Roman towns and cities in Romania
- Category:Roman towns and cities in Bulgaria
- Category:Roman towns and cities in Serbia
- Category:Roman forts in Romania
- Category:Ancient Thrace stubs
- Category:Romanian history stubs
- Category:Former populated places in the Balkans
- Category:Archaeological sites in Romania
For Romanian speakers, the Wikipedia in Romanian has much more Dacia related articles, which deserve to be translated in English:

- I would strongly suggest working with Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome. Such a focused subtopic will be increadably hard to get support for (their are very few living English-speaking scholars that actually study that region). Sadads (talk) 08:21, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I certainly joined the Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome and looking forward to collaborate, but I think we can find 5-10 editors for Dacia articles. I am actively working to recruit people. I think having this project will help accelerate the Dacia related pages and improve their quality. --Codrinb (talk) 16:53, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Nontheless i will support the Dacia wikiproject. BineMai 08:57, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for your support. Try to add it to the Support section, under my name. Thanks! --Codrinb (talk) 16:53, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I am just wary because we had a fairly good size group at WP:WPASK for a couple months, and then the project died real quick. I don't think we need any more dead projects and Classical Greece and Rome needs some more manpower right now to bring it back into a little more activity, Sadads (talk) 02:30, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the feedback! I hope we can make it happen though. I'll be happy to dedicate some of my time to the Classical Greece and Rome. Many Dacia articles connect or overlap with Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece topics, so I already touched some. --Codrinb (talk) 02:35, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- I am close to a professor who is the leading North American expert on Dacia (I think the only North American expert on Dacia, Stephen Chappell). Though he is really skeptical about Wikipedia, I think if I told him some of the editors would like him to consult with him on the Dacia articles/ subject area I think that he would be a little more impressed. Send me a user e-mail if you want me to help you get in touch with him, Sadads (talk) 03:23, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Question: I think that you have a plausible scope, but I'm not sure how popular it will prove. There are five WikiProjects listed at Talk:Dacia, plus the above-suggested Wikipedia:WikiProject Classical Greece and Rome. Have you joined any of them, or informed them of your interest in creating another wikiproject? WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:22, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks for the feedback! Good points. I am a member of some of those projects, but none of them are focused on Dacia. --Codrinb (talk) 02:35, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It should be a good project. My research is focused on foreigners' books/articles about DaciaBoldwin (talk) 11:52, 12 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I am personally skeptical of such a proposal if successful lasting too long. I think a taskforce within the Ancient Greece and Rome project might be a more appropriate idea. Nergaal (talk) 04:59, 15 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
