Description
[edit]The aim of this proposed WikiProject would be to reduce the >3 year backlog at Category:Articles to be merged, and to improve the process that causes such a drastic backlog. The scope of the Wikiproject would be the 16000 articles in that category. Quasihuman | Talk 13:53, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

None
- Why do you want to start a new group, instead of joining one of these existing groups?
- Well, I could join an other wikiproject, for example, I could join the Wikiproject Neurosceince, and work on the merge requests there, because I happen to have subject knowledge in that area. However, that would not solve the larger problem. There are no other groups dealing with this issue to my knowledge. Quasihuman | Talk 15:03, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

- Peacock28 (talk) 21:56, 6 January 2012 (UTC) I'm fairly new to Wikipedia, so I probably wouldn't join the Project, but I agree that it's necessary.[reply]
- I might work on this, but I'm supporting this per the "improve the process" part of the proposal. Sven Manguard Wha? 15:02, 9 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- A new noticeboard to go with it would also be good ... something like WP:Requested moves... (WP:Proposed merges is quite quaint in comparison) 65.92.182.149 (talk) 09:03, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Amadscientist - I really like this idea! I would join.--Amadscientist (talk) 22:49, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- This is a complaint over at the pump. Sure, I'll lend a hand. Best, Markvs88 (talk) 18:54, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Discussion
[edit]Note that there was recently a discussion on fixing the merge process at Wikipedia talk:Merging#The catastrophically failing merge process. While no consensus was reached, this Wikiproject idea came out of that discussion. D O N D E groovily Talk to me 21:05, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I think it would be useful to make WP:PM work like WP:RM, with an automated post bot, a talk page template for simply listing the discussion succintly. I also think that Splits are also thusly backlogged, and should also have a centralized notice board (WP:Proposed splits or WP:Requested splits). 76.65.128.132 (talk) 08:03, 4 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can this be expanded to WikiProject Mergers and Splits ? 65.92.182.149 (talk) 09:03, 16 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Maybe, my main focus has been merges, so I'm not very familiar the issues with splits, is there a need for a WikiProject (or half a wikiproject) in that area? Quasihuman | Talk 23:16, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Hi all, I think we're nearly ready to start the project (I'd like to have one or two more sign up before we get started). I have created a draft of the WikiProject in my userspace at User:Quasihuman/WikiProject Merge. Feel free to be WP:BOLD in making changes there, it's a little rough around the edges at the moment. Thanks, Quasihuman | Talk 23:16, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- I have created the WikiProject at Wikipedia:WikiProject Merge, this proposal can be closed now. I will inform anyone who supported it individually. Quasihuman | Talk 20:02, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
