Update
[edit]After some discussion with WikiProject people and several members interested in the project, we determined that we should form the WikiProject based upon the Multidisciplinary term Mind-Body, and describe Qigong as one of the Mind-Body practices that would be included. We started that project on July 24 and incorporated all of the information created below.
Description
[edit]Qigong is an overarching concept that delves deeply into a number of domains of knowledge. It is an integral part of spiritual practice, a philosophical way of living, an integrative health practice, a medical practice, a martial art (as in the sport of T'ai Chi Ch'uan or Taijiquan), and a scientific study (especially in the field of quantum biology, immunology, endocrinology, neurology, and the study of bio-energy). Due to the multi-phasic definition of the concept of Qigong, a group of practitioners and scholars in the field of Qigong would like to invite numerous wikipedians and scholars in all of these other fields to join us in trying to organize this fascinating domain of knowledge.
We have already recruited at least a half-dozen people to help us in this task, but would be hopeful that many more wikipedians would join us (especially as we are knowledgeable in the field of Qigong, but relatively new to the world of wikipedia). Our goal is not to control either the terms or definitions of all the different aspects of Qigong, but rather to generate agreement among others on our use of the terms, investigate the scope of our understanding, and to broaden people's awareness of the specifics of the field.
While on first glance one might think that Qigong is a small domain of knowledge, but in reality, because of its underlying foundation that exists in so many different worlds, it is a huge domain of knowledge.
We encourage anyone with any interest in this field to join our Wikiproject. We look forward to hearing from you ProjectDescription CJ (talk) 22:40, 24 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion
[edit]- Personally, I tend to think that this might be best proposed as a subproject of Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion, possibly as a broader form of its existing Wikipedia:WikiProject Religion/Falun Gong work group. Yes, I know that the subject includes a bit more than religion, but I also know that the encyclopedic coverage of the topic in existing reference sources is probably most extensive in the content relating to the broad topic of "religion," considering that the qigong movement and qigong itself seem to be basically based in that field. Reply: Qigong is not synonymous with religion. Qigong is not synonymous with Falun Gong. However, Falun Gong may utilize QiGong practice. Qigong does have the potential for cross references. CJ (talk) 00:50, 27 May 2013 (UTC) with NQA Research and Education Committee - per Maryanne DiEdwardo[reply]
