I propose splitting Category:United States church stubs/{{US-church-stub}} - a category for each of the 4 regions (as Category:United States building and structure stubs and several of its subcats are already split); and stub tags (and categories where at least 60 are present) for each state and DC. Additionally, I propose a category/tag set for New York City (161 stubs, along with tags for each of the boroughs and a category for Manhattan (73 stubs, struct category over 500 stubs). עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 18:05, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

I propose creating Category:By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom stubs and Template:UK-Parl-by-election-stub. This to split Category:British election stubs (which currently contains 1,112 pages) on its intersection with Category:By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom. The resulting by-election category would contain 903 pages. If that needs further splitting, a split by constituent country of the UK would follow the structure of Category:By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:32, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Support. Do we have any existing stub cats or templates for by-elections elsewhere? --Redrose64 (talk) 19:46, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Redrose64: I can't find any. Tried a search for templates and for categories, but don't see any stubs in the results.
Not sure that it's necessarily relevant whether we have any for other parliaments. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:52, 25 April 2014 (UTC)- My thought was that if others exist, we could copy some of their characteristics. --Redrose64 (talk) 08:51, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Redrose64: Thanks, I get your point. Not sure that there are many relevant comparators.
My main concern here is to ensure that the template title doesn't imply that its scope includes by-elections to other Parliaments within the UK. There is also Category:By-elections to the Scottish Parliament, and while we don't yet appear to have any articles on by-elns to the Parliament of Northern Ireland, I'm sure that at least some of the by-elns were notable and coukd be the subject of articles if anyone chose to write them. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:50, 26 April 2014 (UTC)

- Propose creating subcats
Looking again at the figures, the proposal above would create Category:By-elections to the Parliament of the United Kingdom stubs with over 920 pages. That's way oversized.
So I think it would be better to split it at the outset into constituent countries:
- Category:By-elections to the United Kingdom Parliament in Scottish constituency stubs / Template:Scotland-UK-Parl-by-election-stub — (105 pages)
- Category:By-elections to the United Kingdom Parliament in Welsh constituency stubs / Template:Wales-UK-Parl-by-election-stub — (45 pages)
- Category:By-elections to the United Kingdom Parliament in Irish constituency stubs / Template:Ireland-UK-Parl-by-election-stub — (193 pages)
- Category:By-elections to the United Kingdom Parliament in English constituency stubs / Template:England-UK-Parl-by-election-stub — (590 pages, minus London below)
Those are more manageable sizes. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 19:09, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

I propose Category:Long Island geography stubs - in addition to Category:Queens geography stubs (undersized, with 48 stubs), this would also catch {{BrooklynNY-geo-stub}} (23 transclusions), {{NassauCountyNY-geo-stub}}(13 transclustions) and {{SuffolkCountyNY-geo-stub}} (26 transclusions) - which makes 62 excluding Queens. Note that this category has a permcat - Category:Geography of Long Island. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 05:44, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Since we have 15th-18th century birth stubs subcategories, I propose having Category:Italian painter, 19th century birth stubs. I don't have an exact number for all the years, but using Cat Scan reveals that 75 painters were born from 1801-1820. I can provide a link if needed. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 23:24, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

Proposing new figure skating sub-categories.
- Category:Austrian figure skating biography stubs (~76 articles)
- Category:Swiss figure skating biography stubs (~57 articles)
Also there is a bunch of other countries with 20+ relevant stubs, yet Category:Ukrainian figure skating biography stubs has 17 articles - why is there this inconsistent number limit? Thanks, Kirin13 (talk) 18:45, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Speedy support - and regarding Ukraine, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals/2011/February#A few more nudges. It was almost certainly above 60 then: dropping below 60 is not a problem, in fact it's good: it shows that people have been expanding them. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:46, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Okay - that makes sense in why it was created ... but why is it okay to retain categories of under 20 if we don't allow creation of categories of 30? Looking at Category:European figure skating biography stubs there is 467 articles there. Wouldn't it be better organization (& easier for less experienced editors) if we took out the countries that have 20/30/x articles and gave them their country category. I understand why we wouldn't want to do this everywhere, but with sports, we have a pretty established categorization system so if there is x number of articles, why not split? Why have the magic number be 60? Also, when countries are in the upmerged category, they get intermixed, unlike countries who have their own category. Why don't we at least sort by country if they are in the upmerged category? Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, I'm still learning. Thanks, Kirin13 (talk) 20:52, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Sorry, more questions. 1) Using S2, does the 60 article requirement apply? If not, what rules apply? 2) Since 'speedy support' does that mean I can create category now or should I wait five days? Besides creating category, what else must be done? Is there a fast way to edit category in 60+ articles? Thanks, Kirin13 (talk) 23:01, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- S2 is for templates, but
{{Austria-figure-skating-bio-stub}}
and{{Switzerland-figure-skating-bio-stub}}
already exist. However, you're asking for categries, which are S1, so it's a 60-article threshold for creation of the cat. Action to take is to edit the two stub templates (use{{Germany-figure-skating-bio-stub}}
as a guide), then create the two categories (use Category:German figure skating biography stubs as a guide). Then updateWikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Stub types/Sports#By sport (use the existing entry for Germany as a guide). --Redrose64 (talk) 09:08, 19 April 2014 (UTC)- Is there a way to edit categories of the stub articles in mass? Kirin13 (talk) 23:47, 22 April 2014 (UTC)
- @Kirin13: Edit which categories? In what way do they need editing? Editing en masse is often a bot task, but is this something that WP:AWB could do? --Redrose64 (talk) 19:48, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

Category:1930s British film stubs splitting

Hi there. Since this category has over 800 articles, I suggest splitting this category by year. A quick search in the category reveals:
Category:1931 British film stubs [2] 65
Category:1932 British film stubs [3] 73
Category:1933 British film stubs [4] 89
Category:1934 British film stubs [5]
91
Category:1935 British film stubs [6]
88
Category:1936 British film stubs [7]
130
Category:1937 British film stubs [8]
114
Category:1938 British film stubs [9]
74
I also wish to propose an upmerged template for the following years:
Category:1930 British film stubs [1] 53
Category:1939 British film stubs [10] 50
With these categories, the backlog for this category would be greatly reduced. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 20:18, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- Do we have any existing stub cats or templates that drill down to a specific year? How about subdividing by genre instead? That way, they could be subcats of e.g. Category:1930s comedy film stubs, etc. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:35, 17 April 2014 (UTC)
- That could work. If splitting by genres works better, than I'll support that decision instead. MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 02:51, 18 April 2014 (UTC)
- Support the genre proposal. Aristophanes68 (talk) 03:14, 13 September 2014 (UTC)

- Oppose. The film project has routinely rejected the idea of diffusing categories by year. The size of this category is no longer an issue, due to the recent creation of Category:1930s British comedy film stubs. Fortdj33 (talk) 16:24, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Wonder if anyone here remembers me after all this time...
{{NewZealand-reli-bio-stub}} is now used on some 70 articles, and there are a heap more simply marked with {{NewZealand-bio-stub}} which could use it too. Enough for a Category:New Zealand religious biography stubs, I'd say.
If you're looking for further ways to split that oversized bio category, I'd think a {{NewZealand-crime-bio-stub}} would float - there seem to be quite a lot of police officers, prison staff, judges, and criminals in the bio category.
Also - and this is a far trickier one - you could remove a couple of hundred of the NZ bio-stubs in one fell swoop by making some form of Maori tribal leader stub. {{Māori-bio-stub}} is a bit too general, but perhaps {{Māori-leader-stub}} (with a redirect without the macron) would be very useful. Unfortunately, there's no equivalent permcat (Category:Tohunga is too specific), and Māori are divided primarily by their iwi (tribes). Any suggestions? Grutness...wha? 13:13, 12 April 2014 (UTC) (PS - I'm just passing through, not back here full-time!)
- Reli category made - currently with 85 stubs and growing fast. Grutness...wha? 01:42, 19 April 2014 (UTC)
- crime bio template made - and now on 61 articles... juuust enough to speedy the category. Grutness...wha? 08:17, 19 April 2014 (UTC)

In light of the increasing integration of complex airplane systems, active development of related standards, and the hundreds of pages in the Category:Aviation stubs, I propose
{{avionics-stub}}
and
{{avionics-software-stub}}
which could also be associated, respectively with Category:Electronics stubs and Category:Software stubs.
Some present stubs I would re-categorize:
- Future Airborne Capability Environment
- AIDS (aeronautics)
- Built-in test equipment
- Flight computer
- Flight information display system
- Operational display system
- Stick shaker
- ARINC 826
- DO-297

There are a couple categories in Category:Hong Kong people stubs, which are too specific to meet the threshold. I propose creating:
- Category:Hong Kong artist stubs, which could be fed by {{HongKong-architect-stub}}, as well as upmerging the articles in Category:Hong Kong film director stubs.
- Category:Hong Kong music biography stubs, which could be fed by {{HongKong-musician-stub}}, as well as upmerging the articles in Category:Hong Kong singer stubs.
Fortdj33 (talk) 17:43, 7 April 2014 (UTC)
- Category:Hong Kong film directors is pretty undersorted - I found another half a dozen articles at a quick scan and there are quite a few more. The artist stubs category would probably be useful, but I think upmerging might be a bit premature. Grutness...wha? 00:24, 23 April 2014 (UTC)
