Potential additions

[edit]

While I suppose they are technically remakes, I would certainly consider Shadow Dragon, New Mystery of the Emblem, and Echoes to all be part of the "main series." They're mainline games rather than spinoffs, and usually are referred to in short as, say, FE11/FE12/FE15 rather than FE1 (DS) or FE2(3DS). Now, Echoes can't be added because it's not a GA yet, but would there be any complaints if Shadow Dragon & New Mystery were added? Seems uncontroversial and more like a clerical error they weren't before, but figured I should check. @ProtoDrake: @GamerPro64: @Haha169: SnowFire (talk) 06:13, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SnowFire:, you said it yourself, Echoes not being a GA prevents this good topic from including the entire series. As such, this topic specifically excludes remakes and only includes original mainline games. --haha169 (talk) 06:46, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@SnowFire: When Echoes is actually a GA (which shouldn't be that much trouble, just expand the reception section) then I guess the remakes would count, as long as it's clear they're remakes. If you want to do something now, then I guess there's no reason to keep them back apart from the general impression that nominating all three in a bunch would save some hassle. There is the problem with the topic name, as the title implies that only the main series is included, which excludes both spin-offs and remakes. --ProtoDrake (talk) 09:43, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(re Haha169) Maybe it's a terminology issue then, because "excludes remakes" isn't something I'd get from the title of "Main Fire Emblem series" at all. I'm not sure there's any such distinction among critics / fans that set aside SD / New Mystery / Echoes as not "main" FE games; it sounds like an artificial distinction made up for Wikipedia to game the system. There's a provision that recently released games don't need to be GA anyway, correct? I'd say just add them. If we're going to have contrived criteria to meet the Wikipedia rules, I'm sure several other excuses could be found to exclude Echoes, it's no reason to skip out on FE11/12. It's hardly "gaming" the system. Perhaps the wording isn't the best, (maybe "Original Fire Emblem games" is a better topic title?), but a grouping of original games in a series, excluding remakes, is not a convoluted criteria. It's quite straightforward and simple. I'm not sure what the process is for adding new articles to an existing topic, but I wouldn't oppose it if you went through that avenue. --haha169 (talk) 09:10, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think "Original Fire Emblem games" would help either. The "problem" is that for FE specifically, these "remakes" have been treated by critics, fans, etc. as basically new games. They're not "just" ports with only minor upgrades, which would be more reasonable to leave off. So this list of Fire Emblem games is basically unique as best I can tell - not sure any external source would list Fire Emblem games this way. SnowFire (talk) 14:38, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Then that leaves only two avenues: promote Echoes or delist this topic. --haha169 (talk) 15:19, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@ProtoDrake: Well, if you're up for it, making Echoes a GA would be one fix, sure. (Great work as usual getting so many of the articles up to GA, of course.) There's no hurry, but I'd definitely think that in the long term, either we should get Echoes up to GA and add the three missing games, or else (at worst) demote / reframe the list. I don't think there's really any need to call out which games are remakes, though. If anything, I think the main Fire Emblem template could probably be reformatted to go to strict chronological order as well, like, say, {{Castlevania series}} (lots of those games are "remakes" of Castlevania I, but nobody really talks or cares much about it). SnowFire (talk) 14:38, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@SnowFire: Echoes is now GAN. Once it's passed (which is a reasonable expectation), you can nominate all three remakes together unless any issues others have raised in the conversation prevent it. --ProtoDrake (talk) 19:03, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@ProtoDrake: Thank you for your hard work in writing and improving this series of articles! --haha169 (talk) 02:46, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@ProtoDrake: @SnowFire: @Haha169: Just a reminder that Three Houses is gonna need to get to GA status soon. I can help once I'm done playing it. - Bryn (talk) (contributions) 05:06, 16 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
