The possibility is that it started valid and that intermediate vandalism modified the article to the point it is now at - perhaps a close examination of modifications is required to see if the more ridiculous attributions didnt get put in after the original article was started? No, you can see in the history that the very first entry contains the false information - the position 7°49′ S 121°6′ E (where maps show nothing) and the claimed area (348 km2 = 34,800 ha, where the largest real Derawan is about 6,000 ha) and population (6,750, where the total Derawan population is about 4,000).
