Where in the park?

[edit]

Since this is a large park, you probably want to pick a specific Wiknic location, and describe how to get there carefully.--Pharos (talk) 17:41, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have added the meeting point. Ganeshk (talk) 02:44, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How Can We Broadcast This? Suggestion

[edit]

So far, I only see 3 of us listed as probably attending. I can't believe there are only 3 of us in GA that edit Wikipedia... How can we get the word out to increase the number of attendees? TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 04:23, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@TadgStirkland401: Pharos is planning to do a geonotice to advertise it on-wiki. I will be adding a Facebook event and sharing this on Georgia e-mail lists shortly. Ganeshk (talk) 13:23, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk: Roger that... Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help. TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 02:47, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
 Done Ganeshk (talk) 15:51, 12 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ganeshk where is the Facebook group and how do I join? I never saw the geonotice come across... TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 21:00, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The group is here, Facebook. Ganeshk (talk) 02:06, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@TadgStirkland401: We also have a email distribution list here, [1]. Ganeshk (talk) 13:44, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk: Just by chance, did you happen to contact all of the users listed on Category:WikiProject Georgia (U.S. state) members ??? --TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 00:31, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@TadgStirkland401: No, I had only reached out to those who had signed up to be notified, Wikipedia:Meetup/Atlanta/Invitation list. Ganeshk (talk) 09:13, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The Atlanta and Georgia projects are other potential locations for posting, Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Georgia_(U.S._state)/Atlanta_task_force. Ganeshk (talk) 11:54, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk: I just signed up for the Wikipedia:Meetup/Atlanta/Invitation list. Had no clue it even existed, and wouldn't know how I would've found it if you hadn't pointed it out. Thank you. It doesn't seem like Wikipedia is geared well for notifying users of things like that existing. Oh well, as long as I get to attend, it'll be a great reason to visit that part of the state. (grin) --TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 01:02, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have posted at the Atlanta talk page now. Ganeshk (talk) 21:42, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sign Up for Food?

[edit]

Well, it's about 10 days until the Wiknic... I noticed that no one has signed up to bring any particular foods yet. Are we intending this to be a BYOF event? I am willing to bring chips and sodas... It is easier to bring something that won't spoil since I have about an hour-and-a-half of travel time... TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 21:17, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

When the numbers are this low, there is always the chance that only one or two will show up. A few years ago I was left with lots of food, as the only other Wikipedian to show parked in his car and we could not find him to join up—I left posts on talk pages but no one checked. I am bringing just the food I'll eat this time.
Like you, I can not believe so few would be interested in this event—Atlanta metro has more than 100,000 university students, Athens tens of thousands. On the other hand, meetng outdoors in this area in late August is not an attractive prospect. Maybe indoors on a campus would be a better idea. After all, the winters are mild. — Neonorange (talk) 04:16, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Neonorange: Most of what I've signed up to bring is non-parishable, so I'mm fine with bringing it. As to who is planning to attend, with me driving all the way from the area of Canton, I certainly hope everyone shows that's signed up. I'd hate to waste my time on that kind of drive... But thanks for the warning. TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 05:06, 17 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am looking for ways to attract university students to the group. I have not figured it out yet. Ganeshk (talk) 22:37, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia's Tribble Park article

[edit]

Just for fun, I added more information to the Wikipedia article on the park. You can see my handy-work at Historic mills of the Atlanta area#Tribble Mill. Add some of your own information. TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 16:07, 18 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@TadgStirkland401: The last sentence about the Wiknic is a self reference and original research. You will have to remove it. The rest looks great. Ganeshk (talk) 03:12, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk: Hahahaha... Oh, okay... That makes me sad. I was smiling when I wrote it. (I'll go fix it right now). --TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 04:00, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@TadgStirkland401: Sorry, I appreciate the intent. Interestingly, we have List of Wikipedia people that sounds like a self reference, but the pages are well referenced. Ganeshk (talk) 13:47, 19 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Ganeshk: No worries. When I looked at the Tribble part of that article to begin with, there was one very weak sentence. So, I hope the rest of my edit there looks fine. As to the list of notable Wikipedians, it would be nice if we could have a list of Georgia-based Wikipedians so these meetups could be better attended. Maybe I'm overthinking it... --TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 08:37, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

BYO Meal

[edit]

Apparently, with no one signing up to bring food, other than chips, this is going to be a bring your own meal event. Should we update the main page to state that for any late comers? —TadgStirkland401 (TadgTalk) 23:35, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, go ahead please. Ganeshk (talk) 00:15, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
