How to get there

[edit]

If anyone's coming in to London especially, let us know if you have any problems figuring out how to get to the Penderel's Oak. Should be clear enough hopefully. -- Harry Wood (talk) 11:46, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Promotion

[edit]

Does everyone know about this who should know about this? I think previously User:Poeloq put lots of messages on people's users pages. Should we do this again? I guess so. -- Harry Wood (talk) 11:46, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Harry, I'll start posting messages out tomorrow. Anybody want to help? Poeloq (talk) 17:36, 2 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I put messages out to all the poeple who had expressed an interest in the last meet-up, that is... : AnemoneProjectors, Troop350, Cod, Majorly, JLogan, Denham331, DavidJJJ, Secretlondon, Adambro, Kaihsu, David Gerard, Parmesan, Scalytail, AlisonW, Coolhawks88, Sue Wallace, Pafcool2, OwenBlacker, Kbthompson, Arkady Rose, Psychonaut, DuSanne, Thryduulf, Haza-w, Theresa knott, Nickshanks
Actually judging by the comments it looks like people weren't noticing the event until Poeloq put messages on their talk pages last time, so I guess it is worth doing. There are many more wikipedians in London. Anyone else want to go on an invitation spree?

It is on Upcoming and I emailed the UK email group afresh. Gordo (talk) 08:21, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

London Marathon

[edit]

The London Marathon is on April 13. Might be worth considering since London will be likely to be very busy and transport will be disrupted. Adambro (talk) 10:23, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh right. Yeah I've added a note. Don't think this will cause much of a problem, but worth noting. -- Harry Wood (talk) 11:37, 5 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
AFAIK, The Penderel's Oak is not on the Marathon Route, and it does mean that engineering work on the Tube is unlikely over the weekend Gordo (talk) 08:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question

[edit]

Anyone coming in to London Euston? If so, would they like to meet up with me there? I'm very unfamiliar with London, and it might be nicer if it was two (or more) of us together - two's company and all that. Majorly (talk) 15:50, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Majorly! I'm not arriving at Euston, but passing through the area and can make a slight detour to "pick you up" on the way :) Let me know, Poeloq (talk) 16:56, 6 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
68 bus is your best option (unless the Marathon means the route is suspended) or Walk It!! Gordo (talk) 08:19, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
walkit.com hey? I should of course link to the OpenStreetMap showing where the pub is (Open licensed!)
...but I've positioned that marker based on where the google postcode search revealed the pub location to be. Can't be 100% sure that this is pointing at the right building (the bulding immediately to the east of the little 'Gt Turnstil' alleyway. When I go there and see it with my own eyes, I shall edit the map, and add a little pint glass symbol for the Penderel's Oak. ...unless someone beats me to it of course
Anyway the pub is roughly where the red marker is. Euston station is just about on screen (on my monitor) to the top left. So yes, perhaps just walk down via Russel Square.

And fairly typicaly it's going to rain.Geni 19:57, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Woo. Majorly (talk) 20:14, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It is today!! Gordo (talk) 08:48, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The weather looks sunny/showering, but Penderel's Oak looks like it won't expose us to too much sunlight anyhow. -- Harry (vampire) Wood 10:08, 13 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
