Incorrect categorization of newsletter

@Evrik and Nnadigoodluck: Hi there! The January 2023 and March 2023 editions of the newsletter incorrectly adds the user talk pages to Category:WikiProject Scouting newsletters - see my user talk page for an example. Is there something in the code of the newsletter or the method of delivery to prevent the categorization? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 16:45, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

GoingBatty, that's really surprising to see. Pinging xaosflux for assistance, Best. —Nnadigoodluck 16:57, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
Nnadigoodluck - it may depend on exactly what you picked on Special:MassMessage. Generally for the message part on this you would do {{subst:NEWLETTERTODELIVER}}, then it will respect the noincludes. — xaosflux Talk 17:24, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
@Nnadigoodluck and @Xaosflux: Thank you both! What's the best way to remove the categorization from user talk pages? Simply delete the category, or resubstitute the newsletter template? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 18:11, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
@GoingBatty I'm running a bot job for it, the fix was to just remove the category, but because they are on user_talks, it really needs to be done with +bot,+minor: so that it doesn't trigger "you have new messages" notices for everyone. — xaosflux Talk 18:36, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
@Nnadigoodluck I suggest for next time, first make a MMS list of just yourself and when you go to send out the newletter send it to just you - make sure it looks perfect, then you can send to the main list. — xaosflux Talk 18:39, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
xaosflux, thanks a lot for the assistance, I'll be more careful next time. Best, —Nnadigoodluck 18:48, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
Done job done by Fluxbot. — xaosflux Talk 19:58, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

Greg Wittine, who opened up the BSA to the severely disabled, has died

I created a draft for Greg Wittine. Any help would be appreciated. Best, Thriley (talk) 12:43, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Project-independent quality assessments

Quality assessments by Wikipedia editors rate articles in terms of completeness, organization, prose quality, sourcing, etc. Most wikiprojects follow the general guidelines at Wikipedia:Content assessment, but some have specialized assessment guidelines. A recent Village pump proposal was approved and has been implemented to add a |class= parameter to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, which can display a general quality assessment for an article, and to let project banner templates "inherit" this assessment.

No action is required if your wikiproject follows the standard assessment approach. Over time, quality assessments will be migrated up to {{WikiProject banner shell}}, and your project banner will automatically "inherit" any changes to the general assessments for the purpose of assigning categories.

However, if your project has decided to "opt out" and follow a non-standard quality assessment approach, all you have to do is modify your wikiproject banner template to pass {{WPBannerMeta}} a new |QUALITY_CRITERIA=custom parameter. If this is done, changes to the general quality assessment will be ignored, and your project-level assessment will be displayed and used to create categories, as at present. Article reassessments

@Evrik: I've been involved in work that ended up being the lead on FA rescues but I'm not so sure about taking a deep dive on these. On those others I said that I wasn't concerned about FA status but enjoyed improving the coverage of the topic. I think that I'd be up for that again but since the issues on these look more like meticulous FA items I think that my kind of work would be secondary on these. WikiProject Scouting Newsletter

This needs updating and I am prepared to have a go at doing that. However, I can not see where the original code is kept or indeed whether there is an original code. --Bduke (talk) 07:50, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

The template for the June letter is up:

Have any suggestions? --evrik (talk) 18:54, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Maybe just a post for here but Brownsea Island Scout camp is eyed for scrutiny regarding it FA status. I thought about working on it and thought about buying the few books on it but it looks like they are all out of print. Does anybody know a way to get any of them? North8000 (talk) 19:25, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

@North8000: Please list the books. --evrik (talk) 20:34, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
I was thinking about a general inquiry regarding any books regarding Scouting at Brownsea. Previously I found 2 promising looking books. Now so far I just found one: The Boys on the Island: A Brownsea Adventure Paperback by Luis Bernardo Pérez (Author), Glenn Gardner (Translator) I'd be happy to buy any available books at book type prices but not at collector item type prices. There may not be enough for an article on David Robert Baden-Powell, 5th Baron Baden-Powell [Wikidata], but does anybody have more sources about him? According to WOSM, he's a member of Scouts Australia. Alansplodge (talk) 11:29, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
