Tally for most languages translated[edit]

Hi Lajmmoore and Ipigott, I was just doing some end-of-month review and re-read the instructions for the editathon. It looks like we will be awarding a badge for most languages translated. I am very familiar with running a tally on articles created, but am a little intimidated by the most language portion. 1) It is not a straight count, and 2) it won't be cumulative over the 3 month contest. For example if a participant translates articles from French, Spanish, and German in April, then Turkish, Spanish and German in May, then Turkish, German and French in June there will be 3 languages for each month, but 4 languages for the total 3 months. I am reaching out to you to help with the number of languages tally. The counting is gonna have to be fairly granular. Did you have any ideas on the best way to accomplish this? Best, WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 17:12, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm happy to help with the counting, although I didn't have any particular thoughts about how to do it. I could have a spreadsheet running, and periodically record which languages editors have translated each month? I guess in return, my question is whether we do a badge for most languages each month, so 3 awards in total, or just one for the 3 months? I am happy either way Lajmmoore (talk) 18:21, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Lajmmoore! Ipigott can let you know which way to go on the number of awards. My thoughts would be to eliminate the 3 month cumulative award as the possibility of error is kinda high. It will be interesting to see if anyone attempts many languages, or if editors stick to just one. Let's reconnoiter as the contest unfolds. We can brainstorm about technicalities of language tallies. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 00:21, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
WomenArtistUpdates, Lajmmoore: I think it will be easier to make just one award for language diversity at the end of the three months, as announced. This was because I assume some contributors would like to cover one limited set of languages the first month, and other sets the second and third months. If we provide an award each month, this might over-emphasize the need for diversity to the detriment of producing a substantial number of articles translated from fewer languages. I also think it will be easier to assess overall language diversity per contributor at the end of the three months rather than on a more complex comparison of monthly achievements. As each contributor is required to specify the language of the article translated, I do not envisage any real difficulties. I would of course be happy to assist with assessments. I expect that as we approach the end of the three-month period, it will become increasingly easy to identify a handful of contributors who have been practicing language diversity. I therefore suggest we just see how things go over the first week or two before we discuss the need for any changes.--Ipigott (talk) 06:47, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have modified the text on the meetup page to limit the award for most different languages to the full three months only. I hope this will make things easier. Sorry if I have caused any unnecessary confusion and thank you both for your assistance.--Ipigott (talk) 10:16, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Lajmmoore and Ipigott, Thank you both for your prompt responses. I feel much better now that you both have expressed willingness to work on the "number of languages translated" tally. It was worrying me. One badge it is. WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 19:58, 1 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Hi I dont really understand : is the focus on translating gender studies, of French overseas articles ? Plus I am working on Marion Créhange but the article was created not by me. Will that count or do you want only newly created articles ? Because I was willing to update Françoise-Louise de Warens with the French version as I have done a lot of work on it. Anyway, I am glad to participate ! Nattes à chat (talk) 12:53, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Nattes à chat This meet up 227 Translation Contest | April-May-June 2022 is for newly translated articles have a running text or readable prose size of 160 words or 1,000 characters. If you have a translation that is not new, just improved, or does not meet the requirements, you may add it to the list of Newly created articles which do not meet contest rules: April, Just below the official submissions. There is a separate meet-up page for 226 Gender studies. If you have translated an article on a person involved with gender studies you may put he article on both lists and well done! Happy editing and I hope I have made the two edit-a-thons/meet-ups clearer.Best, WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 18:28, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I have translated two articles for the moment Caroline Dayer and La Parole aux négresses, I hope this is ok :). Nattes à chat (talk) 22:27, 3 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Draft:María Nieto de Aragón[edit]

Hello, I was browsing through the pages that are soon eligible for deletion and came across this page: Draft:María Nieto de Aragón. I am not familiar with this Spanish poet and writer, so I cannot speak to her notability. However, while I attempted to work on the page, the sourcing is all in Spanish which will exceed my foreign-language abilities. Perhaps someone interested in this Women in Red project would like to work on the article. DaffodilOcean (talk) 21:37, 24 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for posting this @DaffodilOcean - I wonder if our friend @Dandilero could be tempted to improve it? Lajmmoore (talk) 19:15, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Lajmmoore - Sweet statistics! Beautiful table! I have some stuff to do IRL today. The badge is at Template:Women in Red 2022 Translation Contest: Most Languages Translated if you would like to bestow it upon the winner. I will write up a report on the full stats for the WiR talk page later this weekend. Pinging Ipigott. I think he will confirm your count. Wow, my brain hurts just try to figure out how you did that. Best, WomenArtistUpdates (talk) 13:32, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Lajmmoore. Yes, indeed. Your count checks with mine. Beautiful table. Thanks for your efforts.--Ipigott (talk) 13:57, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Done! Congratulation go to @Roundtheworld! Thanks for offering to do a little write up too! Lajmmoore (talk) 14:47, 1 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Contest Prizes[edit]

Hello all! I am considering joining this challenge although it's 50% over. This morning, I joined the Central and Eastern Europe contest. They have some small cash prizes. I am not seeing prizes for WiR contest. If there are no prizes, I would like to donate to start a prize pool. Prizes add incentive and increase the chances of being shared on social media.
