A tag has been placed on User:Fluddsskark, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. October 2023

Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because your account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia. Also, your username gives the impression that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

If you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization, you may request unblock and a username change. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement; and
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked; and
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked; and
  • Provide a new username.

To do this, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked.

Please note that the new username you choose cannot already be taken and in use by another account. You can go here to search and see if the username you'd like to choose is available. If the search returns that no global account with that username exists, that means it is available to be taken.

Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page.

Dear Cullen,
I, fluddsskark, am not a representative of an organisation or a own a business. It must occur that people might think that my website is a way of promoting myself, though I give out my website because it's the only place where I can give some information about myself. Pardon if I have broken any rules, but I am still new in Wikipedia editing, so please unblock me from editing.
Regards,

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Request reason:

I do not represent an organisation nor a business. I am a new Wikipedia editor and I would like to get my ban/block appealed. Fluddsskark (talk) 17:53, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

You have not proposed a new username as instructed. Your username violates our username policy. You will also need to agree to refrain from directly editing about your website. 331dot (talk) 23:49, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Fluddsskark (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

I am appealing again because my username does not represent a business, it is a username, not a business. Admins got mistakened by my website I posted in my userpage but now I have deleted it. Fluddsskark (talk) 01:57, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

Your username is the same as your website; that is enough to trigger a username change. You need to directly commit to not editing about your website. PhilKnight (talk) 12:56, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This user is asking to be unblocked to request a change in username.

Alright, my new username is carpetdoor12 Fluddsskark (talk) 14:33, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Administrators should consider discussing any unblock with the blocking administrator (see the blocking policy).

Administrator use only:

If you ask the blocking administrator to comment on this request, please replace this template with the following:

{{unblock-un on hold | 1=blocking administrator | 2=Carpetdoor12 | 3=Alright, my new username is carpetdoor12 Fluddsskark (talk) 14:33, 9 October 2023 (UTC) | 4=~~~~}}[reply]

If you accept the unblock request, replace this template with the following:

{{unblock-un reviewed | 1=Carpetdoor12 | reason=Alright, my new username is carpetdoor12 Fluddsskark (talk) 14:33, 9 October 2023 (UTC) | accept=Allowing username change to requested username. Please select an option from [[Wikipedia:Changing username]] and file a request as soon as possible to avoid re-blocking. ~~~~}}[reply]

If you decline the unblock request, replace this template with the following, replacing {{subst:Decline reason here}} with any specific rationale. If you do not edit the text after "decline=", a default reason why the request was declined will be inserted.

{{unblock-un reviewed | 1=Carpetdoor12 | reason=Alright, my new username is carpetdoor12 Fluddsskark (talk) 14:33, 9 October 2023 (UTC) | decline={{subst:Decline reason here}} ~~~~}}[reply]

You still need to commit to not editing about your website and tell us what you will edit about instead. 331dot (talk) 19:32, 9 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cullen328 (talk · contribs) You placed this block; can you help by commenting on the reasons for the block? In the block log you gave two reasons: "Promotional username, promotional edits". The editor has agreed to a change of username, so that leaves the "promotional edits". I can't see any promotional editing, apart from the inclusion of a link to a personal website in the userpage. That link has now been removed, and in any case I would have thought that a friendly message about the link would be more appropriate than an immediate block without warning. However, you may know of facts that I haven't seen which make a significant difference, so perhaps you can clarify the reasons for the block, and whether you thin the block needs to stay now that the username issue has been dealt with. JBW (talk) 21:38, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

JBW, the website in question says the person is a software and web developer and includes a portfolio of their work. I consider that a commercial website and the link is therefore promotional in my view. Username policy does not allow names that are website names. I will not object to a rename and an unblock as long as the editor commits to refraining from promoting their software business venture. Cullen328 (talk) 22:48, 11 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fine with this, I was not going to promote anything about myself in this website anyways. I only put the website there because I didn't know how to make nice user page about myself, so you can unblock my username (fluddsskark) as there is no use of me using that website in this website again. Fluddsskark (talk) 04:29, 12 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Fluddsskark, I can rename your account for you, but when I have done so, if you try to log in under your old username you will get a message telling you that the username or password is wrong. That is no problem, as you can just log in under the new username, using the same password, but I like to warn editors before renaming them, to avoid any risk that they think they have somehow lost access to their account.
