Students[edit]

Please remind your students to not include revealing personal information (email, social media, addresses, etc.). David notMD (talk) 16:52, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi David notMD, they have been reminded on several occasions. Is there a page in particular that gave you pause? I can talk to the student about it. Best, Stevenarntson (talk) 17:07, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I had not looked at any. Just that in past, looking in on student assignments to Wikipedia, have seen issues. David notMD (talk) 17:21, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
And looked. Most have not made any entry yet. A few have written about their Wikipedia interests in ways that suggest they thing their original research/thoughts/information could be valid content to add. See for example English-3000, ENGL101S0502, An Kobayashi. David notMD (talk) 17:34, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for checking David notMD. We'll be learning about NOR and Verifiability this week in lecture. Best, Stevenarntson (talk) 17:47, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wikicode[edit]

Hello! I saw your post in the Teahouse. I would reccommend getting them to edit with good old wikicode rather than the visual editor. Plain text and italics, bold, indents and links is 90% of the wikicode they will ever need.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 18:14, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, ThatMontrealIP, I have considered it a little, and may do so. The visual editor is very convenient for the populations I deal with, though, because there's very low computer literacy. Most of my students have clicked a "bold" button in MS Word, but very few (if any) of them have ever marked up text for styling. Of course, they could learn--but I've got limited time with them and many other issues to try to cover... :) Best! steven

Hello[edit]

I just wanted to say I'm happy to help as a more direct contact with any issues you or your students may have. I'm a fairly experienced editor here and really would like to see new editors thrive. If you haven't read it already, you may find the info at WP:ASSIGN useful. Thank you! Ed6767 (talk) 00:17, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for getting in touch, Ed6767. I'm finishing up my Wikipedia work for this quarter, and it's going well. When Fall quarter starts up in September, I'll be leading 50 more students through some trainings, and will get in touch if there are questions. I'll also have a look at the resources you mention here. Best! Stevenarntson (talk) 16:16, 12 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, this is Justin Pham. I don't see the edit icon on my page for my Wikipedia page and I am confused as to why it didn't show up. Is this a technical difficulty?
