Each individual course within the University is assigned a certain credit weightage and students are usually required to take a specified number of units to fulfill requirements for graduation. Courses are typically conducted as classroom lectures, guest lectures, case studies, live projects, industrial visits, knowledge sharing sessions & surprise quizzes, apart from examinations.

Admissions

The admissions prior to 2012 were through Joint Management Entrance Test (JMET) held collectively by IITs and IISc each year.[4] After the exam, aspirants were required to fill the Application downloadable from institute website. They were called for GD/PIs based on JMET scores, academic consistency, qualification and work experience.

From the year 2012, the Department of Management Studies, along with similar departments in other IITs, only accepts admission through the Common Admission Test. The joint management entrance test (JMET), previously used for admission by the IITs and IISc has been discontinued. [5]
