"I'm Gonna Be Alright" was remixed for Lopez's remix album J to tha L-O! The Remixes (2002). Released in 2002 as the album's second single, the remix is produced by Poke & Tone of Trackmasters and features rapper Nas and is a double A-side along with "Alive". It peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Lopez's sixth U.S. top ten single.
The original Track Masters Remix features 50 Cent. At the time of the single release Lopez chose Nas for the radio version. Nas re-recorded new rap verses and the track was cut down to 2:52, becoming the Track Masters Remix Radio Edit.[citation needed]
The remix's beat contains re-adaptions of the instrumental used on Luniz's 1995 song "I Got 5 on It" featuring Michael Marshall, a song which itself sampled Club Nouveau's 1987 song "Why You Treat Me So Bad".[citation needed]
[edit] Controversy
Controversy over the radio version versus the album version sparked tension between then-friends 50 Cent and Nas. Lopez and Epic Records decided that it would be better to have Nas for the radio version due to his popularity on the music charts. This however apparently upset 50 Cent causing him to feel betrayed by Nas. At the time of the single release 50 Cent was still upcoming and pretty much unknown to artists in mainstream music. According to rumors, 50 Cent holds no hard feelings towards Lopez, but towards Nas. According to Lopez's management, the switch was purely business. The 50 Cent-featured version appears on the J to tha L-O!: The Remixes album (however, the European version features a no-rap version) while the Nas-featured version appears on the European pressing of Lopez's 2002 album This Is Me... Then. Commercial CD singles were issued containing Nas' version. The 2002 U.S. compilation Now That's What I Call Music! Volume 10 also contains the version featuring Nas.[citation needed]
[edit] Music video
The music video, directed by Dave Meyers and filmed in the Bronx, New York City, features Nas. It shows a hot summer day in New York through scenes of Lopez doing the laundry, sunbathing, listening to music in a record shop and playing baseball on the streets. This is also Lopez's second video with her then-husband Cris Judd.
