The Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), established on 15 August 2002 by upgrading the then RMCH, is a medical institute of Ranchi University in Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, India. The college is an autonomous body established under an act of Jharkhand Assembly and is one of the premier medical colleges in the state and India.

The institute provides free medical service along with medicines. Developments in the field of surgery include minimal access cosmetically sound (MACS) surgery.

The RIMS has blocks in a multi-storied building with several medical departments. RIMS has about 23 departments which include emergency, Blood bank, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Orthopedic, Neurosurgery, OBST & Gynae, ENT, Eye, Anesthesiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Skin STD & Leprosy, and Radiology. RIMS has facilities like CT scan, emergency pathology for 24 hrs,

AIDS Clinic, X-Ray, USG, Tele Medicine Department and a Deep X-Ray unit.

RIMS has a own blood bank, nursing school, and nursing college. At RIMS medical courses include MBBS, postgraduate - MD, MS, MCH and Diploma. It also offers radiology and pathological investigation facilities.

Academics

The intake every year used to be 90 students for the undergraduate course. As per the new regulations of the Medical Council of India (MCI) it has increased its seats to fill 150 undergraduate students.The college provides postgraduate education in almost every department. The neurosurgery department offers a M.Ch.(Master chirurgiae or Master of Surgery) degree.[citation needed] About 15% of the total seat is filled through AIPMT, a part of it through the central government and rest through the state entrance exam. The faculty of Anatomy ,surgery and internal medicine department have received training at AIIMS new delhi.HOD of surgery has trained in australia and among the top surgeons in india.

Facility

The college has a 1500-bed multispeciality hospital. There are centres under construction like the oncology centre, a 50-seat dental college is about to function from the 2017 session, a cardio-thoracic surgery centre and a nephro-urology centre.The environment around the hospital is soothing and patients are treated using unconventional techniques .

The college has a 20-bed trauma centre, the first of its kind in eastern India. The Director of RIMS is Dr.B.L.sherwal (Microbiology) and Dean is Dr. Trilochan Singh (Pathology)

Student life and extracurricular activities

The college organizes an inter-college fest every year named "SYNERGY". The annual college magazine, Spriha, is maintained by the student magazine society.

The students a canteen, tennis court, indoor badminton hall. Every hostel is provided with carom and a table-tennis room. A multipurpose hall is available. In recent years the fest is organised with great caution as there were violent clashes among students in which several were injured.Mass bunking before and after fest is also very common and the fest is celebrated with full enthusiasm .Student's ball is also organised during the fest and is very popular in Ranchi city.

Students seeking admissions into RIMS are required to submit an affidavit issued by the Court and validated by them and their parents to curb the menace of ragging.
