Black Swan (BTS song) → Black Swan (song) – WP:SONGDAB - only song with this name that has an article. ⓋᎯ☧ǿᖇǥ@ℤε💬 11:32, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Steel1943 (talk) 18:22, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
- As seen below (comments earlier than this comment's following timestamp), this request already had a few comments declaring it controversial. However, I will be participating in this discussion... Steel1943 (talk) 18:22, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
- The BTS song may be the only one that has an article, but Black Swan (song) redirects to Black swan (disambiguation) where 7 songs are listed in accordance with MOS:DABMENTION. How likely is it that a person looking for an article about a song called "Black Swan" is looking for the BTS song? Which guideline takes precedence? It it not immediately obvious and therefore imho this is not a purely technical move. It is probably best discussed at e.g. Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion or Wikipedia:Requested moves. --kingboyk (talk) 15:38, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
- I concur with kingboyk above. I'm looking through the "Black Swan" songs and, with none of them standing out, I'm not sure we have a primary topic, so my preference would be to see this discussed on the talk page of
either ofthe dab pageor the proposed target, with notifications to each of the appropriate "Black Swan" talk pages. RfD is probably not equipped to decide on which is the primary topic (if any). Doug Mehus T·C 16:45, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

- Support per WP:SONGDAB ... which states that this move should occur, and its current wording was the result of an RfC. Steel1943 (talk) 18:28, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support, only one song with an article exists. A hat note to the disambiguation article should suffice. Alex (talk) 22:53, 14 February 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose per culture, books and common sense I know that song editors don't want the names of artists on songs, I know that song editors had that RfC. However in some cases common sense rather than the Law should be applied. click here and see why. The Korean-language song doesn't even include the term "black swan" in the lyrics. In ictu oculi (talk) 16:22, 16 February 2020 (UTC)
- @In ictu oculi:Your argument is otherwise valid, but the fact that "black swan" is never mentioned in the lyrics is irrelevant when it's the title of the song. I mean, the titular phrase isn't uttered once in "Bohemian Rhapsody" yet it's still an obvious primary topic...ⓋᎯ☧ǿᖇǥ@ℤε💬 10:21, 18 February 2020 (UTC)
- Support since it is the only "Black Swan" song with an article. A hat note to the disambiguation article should be helpful for anyone looking for other "Black Swan" songs. Aoba47 (talk) 18:24, 19 February 2020 (UTC)

Infobox and lead
[edit]- Can you find any source to add a recording date to the infobox?
- Kyle Peake, I don't think so, the least I could find is an interview with one of the songwriters August Rigo where he stated when he found out the song was going to be on the album.--Ashleyyoursmile! 08:31, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake, can this be loosely used as a source for the recording date? This is the interview I was talking of initially. --Ashleyyoursmile! 08:20, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- No, as Forbes is known to be unreliable. --Kyle Peake (talk) 09:41, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

- Are you sure Pdogg and RM weren't credited under their real names as songwriters?
- Kyle Peake, credits on South Korea's largest music platform Melon here cite them as Pdogg and RM, however like you said, Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA) credits writers using their formal rather than stage names. So should I change to their real names in the infobox keeping the lead fixed?
- No, keep as stage names in this case. Also Ashleyyoursmile can you sign off posts like this please, it makes real easier for reading? --Kyle Peake (talk) 07:40, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Done And sorry, I will keep that in mind. --Ashleyyoursmile! 08:31, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

- Change the music video template to using the header Music videos; see "Violent Crimes" for an example of changing the header Done
- Just noticed, you still need to cite the single template for the music videos though. --Kyle Peake (talk)

- Kyle Peake if it is required to cite just one video in the infobox, should the art film be included or the music video? --Ashleyyoursmile! 12:03, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

Composition and lyrics
[edit]- Would suggest adding timed text to the sample file
- Kyle Peake,
Not sure what that means.Done --Ashleyyoursmile! 10:44, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake,
- The sample exceeds 10% of the song's length, so re-upload a shorter version
- Kyle Peake, I am not very familiar with handling media files so I'm not sure how to do this myself.--Ashleyyoursmile! 08:31, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- An external program such as QuickTime Player + VLC would be used to trim the audio files. --Kyle Peake (talk) 08:33, 6 June 2020 (UTC) Done Could you check if the caption reads right? --Ashleyyoursmile! 10:44, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Change "the group's" to "the band's", target music critics to Music journalism and target trap to Trap music, plus can you mention anything about the composition of this pre-bridge section maybe? --Kyle Peake (talk) 11:02, 6 June 2020 (UTC) Done Except none of the sources mention anything specifically about the composition of pre-bridge.
- This is fine then, just needs subtitles. --Kyle Peake (talk) 16:39, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake, could you elaborate how the subtitles should be affixed? --Ashleyyoursmile! 17:39, 6 June 2020 (UTC)

- See Talk:Kids See Ghosts (album)/GA1, where I got my advice from on adding subtitles. --Kyle Peake (talk) 17:43, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake, two quick questions: 1) Should I just need to edit the timed text tab of the File page (the third tab that appears when I click on the name of the audio file) and add the contents of the srt file that I would create? 2) Should the subtitles be added in (i) Hangul or (ii) only translations in English should be included for the entire sample? --Ashleyyoursmile! 18:10, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, do that for editing and add in English but mention it is a translation. --Kyle Peake (talk) 18:16, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake, This could take time. Other than that, I have tried to address all other comments. --Ashleyyoursmile! 19:03, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
- Ashleyyoursmile I'll take a look at the guidelines and see if there's anything about languages for audio samples. --Kyle Peake (talk) 05:18, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Update: Think you should just put the captions in the language of the song --Kyle Peake (talk) 06:44, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake,
Clarification- The sample contains lyrics in Korean and English, so while editing the timed text tab, should like simply proceed by selecting "Korean" as language and press Go? I'm confused as to how the english text will be dealt with though.--Ashleyyoursmile! 07:50, 7 June 2020 (UTC)- Kyle Peake, Done Just proceeded with it and created the timed text in Korean. Hopefully that should suffice. --Ashleyyoursmile! 08:15, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

- Kyle Peake, Edited it again just now, but the problem seems to persist with the English lyrics. No idea how to fix that. --Ashleyyoursmile! 10:18, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- It seems like the issue is that the time is being displayed on the lyrics caption, why is this? --Kyle Peake (talk) 15:54, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Kyle Peake, Yes I have noticed that but not sure why that's happening. The text format seems okay to me. Also the problem starts at line 6, if you notice the span of this particular line is 106 milliseconds, so it barely gets any time to flash on the screen. Any thoughts? I think I need help with this issue. --Ashleyyoursmile! 17:15, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

[edit]- Move that Australia ref solely to the mention of that chart position in Commercial performance and cite in here from the single chart template Done
- Cite for France using the single chart template here too Done
Monthly charts

- Use bullet points to separate the two different release formats Done
- Only one ref should be included here; I think ref 7, since that supports the info cited in this table Done

References
[edit]- Looks like you've done a good job of archiving, just run the tool again to check all refs have been archived
- Copyvio score looks good, is at 43.2% but that's for a source not used in this article
- Change New York magazine to Vulture on ref 2; italicisation represents work/website parameter in all cases I have listed under here, do not actually apply italicisation to this parameter Done
- Names for refs 3, 13, 28, 33, 66, 78, 89, 90 and 91 are the wrong way around Done
- MOS:QWQ issues with ref 6 Done
- 11 or so citations on ref 7 is too much; trim this to 7 and do that by using the most notable, plus make sure foreign language is always noted Done
- Wikilink to iTunes Store solely on the first citation of ref 7 that mentions it Done
- Wikilink Big Hit Entertainment on ref 10 Done
- Cite Yonhap News Agency as publisher instead on ref 14 Done
- Refs 17, 49, 50, 51, 52 and 81 are unreliable per WP:RSP and either replace or remove the backed up info from everywhere in the article Done removed and replaced at suitable places
- Cite Musicstax as publisher instead on ref 21 and remove it from the title Done
- Delete ref 22 since Spotify should not be cited; you can use the iTunes ref to back up that info in the body instead Done
- MOS:QWQ and MOS:CAPS issues with ref 26 Done
- Ref 33 should cite Yonhap News Agency as publisher instead, but keep no wikilink and fix MOS:QWQ issues Done
- MOS:QWQ issues with ref 43 Done
- Ref 53 should not use a Facebook url for archive; fix this Done
- Should ref 61 be via YouTube for consistency? Done
- Cite Vulture instead for refs 63 and 80 Done
- Ref 66 says it has never been archived but the original page does load, so archived in its current state Done
- MOS:QWQ issues with refs 73 and 74 Done
- Cite Grammy as publisher instead and without capitalisation for ref 75, with target to Grammy Award and fix MOS:QWQ issues Done
- MOS:QWQ issues with refs 76, 77, 82 and 86 Done
- Remove wikilinks to Naver on refs 89, 90 and 91 Done
- Change Star News to Starnews on refs 90 and 91 Not done WP:KO/RS cites the source name as "Star Today"- I have used this in place of "Star News"
- Oh right, that's fine. --Kyle Peake (talk) 05:32, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
- Delete ref 92 altogether since it's a duplicate Done
- MOS:CAPS issues with refs 96 and 102 Done
- Change ref 103 to only citing Recording Industry Association of Malaysia in publisher with the wikilink Done
- Wikilink Recording Industry Association (Singapore) on ref 105 Done
- Remove wikilinks on Billboard for refs 107 and 112 Done
- Remove wikilink to Rolling Stone on ref 111 Done

- ... that BTS transform into eponymous black swans in their music video for "Black Swan"? Source: [1][2][3]
Improved to Good Article status by Ashleyyoursmile (talk). Self-nominated at 15:43, 9 June 2020 (UTC).
- New enough, long enough, no copyvio (only quotes), well-referenced, neutral, QPQ not required, interesting enough, and good to go. ~~ CAPTAIN MEDUSAtalk 12:02, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
Black Swan surpassed Adele's iTunes record
[edit]Will we be adding this somewhere in the prose of the article? While single vendors are not included in Chart sections, allowance is made for including their mention in the body of an article if a significant record is set or broken on a particular platform. Black Swan broke the record for most itunes #1's with 103 (then soon after 104), surpassing the record previously held by Adele with 102. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 17:49, 6 July 2020 (UTC)

Black Swan (song) → Black Swan (BTS song) – "Black Swan (song)" is ambigous. It can refer to other Black Swan songs. Black Swan by BTS isn't the only black swan song. Also, users who are looking up "Black Swan (song)" may be looking for something else. For proof, see Black Swan (disambiguation)#Songs. Seventyfiveyears (talk) 20:33, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

- @Seventyfiveyears: Ping nominator. Steel1943 (talk) 22:18, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:SONGDAB since this is the only song subject with an article. Also, see #Requested move 14 February 2020. Steel1943 (talk) 22:17, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose per above, none of the other songs have an article so further disambiguation is not necessary at this point. Alex (talk) 22:21, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- We also have "Black Swan" song redirects like Black Swan (Greg Dulli song), Black Swan (Thom Yorke song), etc. Seventyfiveyears (talk) 22:57, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, but those are redirects to another article, they are not articles. This one is. Plus, out of the seven other songs listed at Black Swan (disambiguation), four of those redirects were only created a few hours ago, by you. Alex (talk) 23:10, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- I had to make those redirects because when I searched them up, they didn't redirect to their primary page. Seventyfiveyears (talk) 23:46, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose, unneeded at this moment. Once any of these songs stops being a tracklist entry we can discuss it. © Tbhotch™ 23:32, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Neutral. First WP:SONGDAB is wrong. It is a local consensus of pop song editors against WP:TITLE. SONGDAB takes the view that we disambiguate by articles not content, which we don't, although some editors believe that we do. It's a handy rule for pop songs, because pop songs generally exist as standalone articles, but WP:SONGDAB does not apply when a song is part of a musical, where a number in a musical may be exponentially more notable than a pop song standalone. In this particular case though the sole number from Menotti's opera Black Swan (The Medium) / Black Swan (Menotti) can be served by redirects. In ictu oculi (talk) 17:21, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Oppose as the only song at this title with an article. kennethaw88 • talk 04:06, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

Black Swan #6 on Insider's 30 best songs of 2020 list
[edit]Just leaving the link here in case it's appropriate to be added under the Accolades section maybe. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 04:14, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- It's also #5 on Buzzfeed's 35 K-pop songs that defined 2020 list, but I'm unsure if this would be an okay listicle to mention since BF is a mixed bag for some. -- Carlobunnie (talk) 04:37, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
