Requested move 31 July 2018[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Moved. See general agreement below to rename this article and several possible titles have surfaced. This discussion has run 3½ weeks with two relistings, so it's time to implement the decision. The original proposal is supported by one editor and another editor supports one of the nom's alternative proposals. It appears that overall, participants lean toward concision and have decided that this article be moved to Barak hound. Since this is a "lean" rather than a consensus, any editor at any time can propose a new name (as long as it is not the old name). Have a Great Day and Happy Publishing! Bosnian Coarse-haired HoundBosnian Broken-haired Hound – This breed only has two standardized names in English: Bosnian Broken-haired Hound and Barak; the former is an internationally standardized one, the latter is an Americanism [See below: the int'l. org. also accepts Barak.] "Bosnian Coarse-haired Hound" is cited to nothing but some unreliable blog.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  17:21, 31 July 2018 (UTC); revised: 14:21, 1 August 2018 (UTC)--Relisting. SMcCandlish, do you have any references? My references call it the Bosnian Rough-haired Hound[1] or the Bosnian Rough-coated Hound.[2] Kind regards, Cavalryman V31 (talk) 11:55, 1 August 2018 (UTC).[reply]
Well, obviously, the actual breed standards cited in the article. For what the official name of a breed is, these are better sources than tertiary breed books, which may actually be outdated. Those are good enough to add some additional terms.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  12:55, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've overhauled the lead and the sourcing in general. We should probably consider a "Nomenclature" or "Terminology" section and move most of that into there along with the sources and (while still in effect) the {{citation needed}} tags).  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  14:21, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Alternative idea: move to Barak dog, Barak hound (lower-case because neither "dog" nor "hound" are part of the formal breed name "Barak"), or Bosnian Barak; I favor the last of these. Both the FCI and the UKC, the only registries that appear to have breed standards for this, accept Barak as a name of the breed, and it's more WP:CONCISE than any of the translations of Bosanski oštrodlaki gonič. Barak itself is a disambiguation page, and we don't use parenthetical disambiguation for breeds any longer (see WP:BREEDDAB – we've consistently moved away from "(dog)", "(cat)", "(cattle)", etc. over the last 4 years; there are nearly zero remaining parenthetical breed disambiguations). Bosnian Barak is common on the few English-language websites about this breed, and in various articles [1] so it seems viable as a natural disambiguation. The redirect Barak dog is already categorized in Category:Dog breeds, as is Illyrian Hound, and we can also do that with the main FCI name, Bosnian Broken-haired Hound, so people can easily find it under any likely name.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  14:28, 1 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's clear rough, course and broken are all translations of the same thing. Barak seems to be consistent across all references, I will re-check my references (I'm currently away) but at the moment my !vote is for Barak hound. Cavalryman V31 (talk) 02:30, 4 August 2018 (UTC).[reply]
  • Support as originally proposed, since the breed standard docs seem like a good way to choose from among the various translations. Dicklyon (talk) 19:41, 11 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • SMcCandlish, which way are you leaning now? Dekimasuよ! 10:53, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Follow-up comment: @Dekimasu:, you asked about my leaning direction just as I went on wikibreak so I didn't see it. Belatedly, I'm just fine with the result, since Barak is among the names in the breed standards, and this fits WP:CONCISE.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  16:25, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
