Floyd Casey[edit]

Why is Floyd Casey stadium listed? It was demolished in 2016. And McLane Stadium, the Bears' home since 2014 with a capacity of 45,ooo+ is not on the list. 50.58.138.2 (talk) 16:39, 21 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

How long do we want this list to be?[edit]

Recently, User:77.169.189.99 has made some good-faith edits to this list article, adding a number of links to stadia with capacity < 30,000. This is the cutoff number that has been used for many years, and although arbitrary, it seems like a good fit here. However, with these new additions, the article comes in at an unwieldy 152,371 bytes of text - WP:BETTER#SIZE recommends no more than 50,000. The result is a list that is much too long and a less useful article. Discussion welcome - is this expanded size what's best for the article? 162 etc. (talk) 16:20, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And now we have images next to every single stadium on the list? Good grief. This article is a disaster. 162 etc. (talk) 16:38, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
We certainly need to remove the stadiums below 30k. Not sure when they started being added, but it would be a start. The data gets harder and harder to verify the smaller we get, and honestly stadiums below 30k are likely non-notable. glman (talk) 20:23, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Same user added 10k - 30k to similar lists (List of Asian stadiums by capacity, List of European stadiums by capacity, etc.). I've removed all below the amount listed. Do we think 30k is the best standard cutoff? Europe uses 25k right now, but we should align them. glman (talk) 20:45, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
30k was the stable cutoff before last year. At that time, User:77.169.189.99 made the addition of other stadiums to the list. While such stadiums are notable, they are not notable in the context of a list article concerning an entire continent. We also then see this article becoming a WP:CFORK of other, smaller lists, which makes upkeep more tedious and inacurrate/outdated information more likely.
After trimming out said additions, I was reverted, leading to my original post here on the talkpage. Since that time, the original IP editor has been blocked, but the additions have continued under User:141.0.29.182. I still believe that the additions, while in good faith, are misguided, and that the previous 30k cutoff made for a better article. 162 etc. (talk) 21:10, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I concur. glman (talk) 21:22, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Sir Sputnik: User:141.0.29.182's edits seem to follow the same pattern as those of the user you blocked (User:77.169.189.99.) Do you believe this to be a block evasion? 162 etc. (talk) 21:37, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
While I can see at a glance why you might think that, I'm not going to go digging through the 200+ edits these two IP's have made to this page between them, without something a bit more substantive to support an accusation of sockpuppetry. The older IP is User:Staafros1. If you have concrete evidence, please report it to Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Staafros1. Sir Sputnik (talk) 01:54, 6 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Consistency in team names[edit]

@162 etc.: Instead of edit warring, how about trying to explain why the single change of [[Vancouver Whitecaps FC|Vancouver Whitecaps]] to [[Vancouver Whitecaps FC]] is a NOTBROKEN violation when the dozens of other team names in this article (Seattle Sounders FC, CF Monterrey, CF Montréal, etc.) aren't. Applying some consistency is well within the project standards, as is removing unnecessary piping, since the article is presumed to be at the most common and logical title. Frankly ridiculous that I have to write a rationale for a self-explanatory semi-automated edit in this level of detail. SounderBruce 05:58, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I started a discussion on your talk page and you deleted it. Probably would have been best to continue on that track, IMO.
Anyway, we've both read WP:NOTBROKEN, each other's edit summaries, and it's clear that we disagree. In this instance, the stable version should prevail. Thank you for continued contributions to the encyclopedia. 162 etc. (talk) 06:20, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
WP:STATUSQUO applies, which states that you should not be reverting to a perceived status quo without providing an actual, substantial reason. There is no rule that states that the status quo "should prevail"; this is a form of disruptive stonewalling and borders on article ownership. Take care to read the basic policies on dispute resolution. SounderBruce 08:13, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with SonderBruce, no reason to keep an inaccurate piped version, we should be preferring unpiped links here anyway. glman (talk) 13:58, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
