Legislature?
[edit]Since this Commission is unrepresentative, appointed, with no authority to pass laws, is it right to name it a legislature? It seems more like an organ of government of an absolute monarchy, which is what the Vatican City State is.--Gazzster (talk) 01:55, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed, the Pope is an absolute monarch. GoodDay (talk) 18:23, 2 August 2008 (UTC)
- But in secular terms the President of the Commission is like a head of government distinct from a head of state, no? The head of state delegates all executive powers for Vatican City State to ... "this guy" :D. 118.90.109.178 (talk) 02:45, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- No, the President is the formal delegate of the Supreme Pontiff. He's not like a prime minister to a president or king. The Commission itself, according to the reference, receives its power directly from the Pontiff, unlike a parliament or congress. However, the reference calls the commission a legislature, and I suppose a legislature does not have to elected or even enjoy independence. The Upper House in the UK or Canada is not elected. And dictators have 'legislatures' that have no real independence.--Gazzster (talk) 04:38, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
