"The Young & the Hopeless" is the fourth single taken from Good Charlotte's second studio album The Young and the Hopeless. The Young & the Hopeless is also the title track for the album the song featured in.
Benji Madden sings the second verse in the song. As of 2007, this is the only single the band has released where Benji sings lead instead of back-up.

This is the first music video that Benji & Joel Madden had a hand in directing. It features the band in a trophy room. As they perform the song, they wreck the room and the awards in it. The video premiered in April 2003 on MTV.
