October 2017[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a message letting you know that one or more of your recent edits to North Carolina Highway 42 has been undone by an automated computer program called ClueBot NG.

Thank you. ClueBot NG (talk) 20:05, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to Maine. Your edits appear to constitute vandalism and have been reverted or removed. If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.

Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to vandalize Wikipedia, as you did at Augusta, Maine, you may be blocked from editing.
Your edits have been automatically marked as vandalism and have been automatically reverted. The following is the log entry regarding this vandalism: Augusta, Maine was changed by 184.0.142.164 (u) (t) ANN scored at 0.851746 on 2017-10-21T23:57:47+00:00 .

Thank you. ClueBot NG (talk) 23:57, 21 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Maine is the 9th least populous state in the United States, so please don't change it back, because it sounds better for me. Thank you 184.0.142.164 (talk) 20:48, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sounding better for 184.0.142.164 is not sufficient reason to make a change on this global encyclopedia. Please discuss this matter on the article talk page, which is proper procedure(see WP:BRD). 331dot (talk) 20:50, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't care. 184.0.142.164 (talk) 20:52, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's unfortunate that you feel that way, that instead of using logical and policy based arguments to reach consensus that you instead decline to participate in proper procedures to advance your position. 331dot (talk) 20:54, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

And you are not going to block me from editing Wikipedia either. 184.0.142.164 (talk) 20:56, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't claim to have any power to block anyone, nor do I wish to block anyone or have anyone blocked, including you. I want to calmly follow proper procedure and discuss this matter. I don't think that's a terrible thing to ask. If we each understand what the other is thinking and why, this has a great chance of being resolved amicably. 331dot (talk) 20:58, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Good I am happy you don't and you better not do it either. 184.0.142.164 (talk) 21:01, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm disappointed that you have continued to edit war and maintained this hostile attitude instead of calmly discussing this. 331dot (talk) 21:07, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't care how you feel. 184.0.142.164 (talk) 21:08, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That's unfortunate and is not conducive to the collaborative effort that Wikipedia is. I nevertheless invite you to explain your reasoning for this change on the article talk page, in the section I have just started for that purpose. 331dot (talk) 21:10, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am really sorry. 184.0.142.164 (talk) 21:15, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

To answer your original "why", because when one makes an edit, they need to be prepared to explain it to others. Everyone has their own idea of what sounds better, and Wikipedia has hundreds of thousands of editors around the world, so saying something "sounds better" is not sufficient explanation for an edit. If others know the logical and/or policy based reasons for your edit, it is more likely to be accepted by the community and have consensus, which is how Wikipedia operates. Why does your change "sound better"? Or what policies are there that support it? Any controversial edit should be discussed on the talk page. 331dot (talk) 21:17, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe we don't have to spend the time arguing about the edit warring issue. This IP is vandalizing. -★- PlyrStar93. Message me. 21:20, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

But I said that I was sorry, so can you please forgive me? 184.0.142.164 (talk) 21:19, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your apology, and accept it; I again invite you to discuss the matter so that all may understand your position. 331dot (talk) 21:22, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. 184.0.142.164 (talk) 21:24, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Never mind, Maine is the 10th least populous state in the United States, not the 9th. 184.0.142.164 (talk) 00:49, 24 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Your recent editing history at Maine shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. 331dot (talk) 20:49, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What is an edit war? 184.0.142.164 (talk) 20:51, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you click the words "edit war" in the above post, it will provide an explanation. As I indicated, all you need to do is agree to discuss this matter on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 20:52, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Question about being blocked from editing Wikipedia[edit]

Is being blocked from editing Wikipedia a punishment? 184.0.142.164 (talk) 22:24, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you read the blocking policy that you linked to in your post, you can answer your own question. You were also given an answer to a similar question above.

Can you please answer my question? 184.0.142.164 (talk) 02:47, 23 October 2017 (UTC) 331dot (talk) 22:37, 22 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop adding unsourced content, as you did to Annapolis, Maryland. This contravenes Wikipedia's policy on verifiability. If you continue to do so, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. John from Idegon (talk) 01:40, 28 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please click on the link and stop wikilinking basic things like "city" or "U.S. state". No one is going to click to find out what a city is from any of those articles. Parts of some of your edits are fine, but those oversights are grounds for an instant revert, which removes both baby and bathwater. I might get rid of the junction list since it is in the wrong direction. Thank you 23:40, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Since North Carolina Highway 6 is not a Highway in North Carolina anymore, I am going to get rid of the junction list because there is no need for it to be here if it is not a Highway anymore. 184.0.142.164 (talk) 21:30, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Edit summaries and consensus[edit]

I sense that you are new to Wikipedia and may not be familiar with its principles, as you edit Vermont. I asked you to discuss changes that you and I disagree on at the talk page before reverting further. Instead, you reverted without leaving edit summaries to explain to other editors your actions. Please review WP:UNRESPONSIVE. Please review WP:TALK#USE to understand the purpose of using the Talk page, rather than engage in an edit war. Please understand that Wikipedia:Consensus is how such disagreements are properly worked out. Since you may be uncomfortable with using that unfamiliar process, I'll initiate it at Talk:Vermont. Sincerely, User:HopsonRoad 15:01, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Charleston, West Virginia. Every time you've added this ridiculous "most of this and least of that" trivia, one of many editors has reverted it. For Pete's sake, just stop adding it. It's screaming obvious there is no consensus for it. John from Idegon (talk) 05:33, 7 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I agree with John from Idegon and others. You have made too many unproductive edits, and you keep making the same edits over and over again. I pointed out the least of them a month ago (the overlinking of terms like "city"), and I see you're still making that edit and others. If you cannot accept that edits here need to have at least some measure of consensus, you can't edit here. This isn't punishment: blocks are meant to prevent disruption, and that is what I am hoping to do. The moment you can accept the criticism and act accordingly, you can request an unblock. Edit summaries and abbreviations[edit]

I notice the lack of edit summaries in your various edits of North Carolina highways. Please use them to help others know the intent of your edits.

You also remove the full names of highways followed by the abbreviation definition in a lot of your edits such as this one where you remove the line "[[U.S. Route 25 in North Carolina|U.S. Route 25]] (US 25)." Per the Wikipedia Manual of Style Guidelines on Abbreviations, the act of writing out the full name followed by the abbreviation is needed to reduce confusion for readers unfamiliar with the topic and reduce ambiguity. WP:USRD articles will define the full name of state highway, U.S. highway, and/or Interstate highway at its first instance and abbreviations used thereafter. Your edits removing these abbreviation definitions will continue to be reverted to maintain a level of clarity for readers. —Mr. Matté (Talk/Contrib) 22:53, 10 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
