July 2013[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles, or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion debates, as you did with Jonathan Costa. Otherwise, it may be difficult to create consensus. If you oppose the deletion of an article, please comment at the respective page instead. Thank you. – Fayenatic London 17:14, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize and was not aware when editing in edit source as I instinctively copied and pasted the html code back into Wikipedia from a program i use to check all errors. I am shocked to have seen an innocent post of what is a simple bio of a person who has launched a job board considered for deletion. It has also come to my attention that there was a copyright issue? I was messaged as to why I had copied the following and almost went into a dispute with this person thinking it was my wrong doing. I would like to be given at least the opportunity in having a clean conscious by trying to gain the bio back to its correct state and to work closely with you to make it a successful article. I am sure that deep down inside you will understand my views and concerns of having been involved in the editing environment.. Thank you - Access2013

That's funny, I only left a message at user talk:Gibwork about copying text from Zoominfo. Are you the same editor as that account? If you have switched to using this account then I will block the old one without further recrimination (but don't use multiple accounts again, as that is taken seriously here).
Even if you are not the same person, please read the notices on that page, as I hope they are helpful.
You will understand that it is not appropriate for Wikipedia to have a page about every person or other subject in the world, so we have a standard for WP:Notability. See WP:BASIC for the basis criteria for biographies. Are there some newspaper/magazine interviews with Costa that can be cited as reliable sources? Without links to independent sources, it frankly looks like a vanity page. – Fayenatic London 18:03, 16 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think we are jumping to conclusions as Gibraltar is a small place and everyone knows everyone and it comes as a disappointment that we are spending more time on what is classified as duplicate account when in fact I have worked under Jonathan previously in Gibwork. Unfortunately this event has turned our working relationship sour as I had edited the page (which i saw as okay as he thanked me) but ended up thinking it was my fault this page is being considered for deletion. Can we please work together and make sure that this is done correctly? I can confirm that the article (stated in the ref section) is a reliable source as it deals a lot with promoting the gaming industry. I have worked along side (Income)and acted as an affiliate for them too (freelancer) which is why my nick name is Access. The article on Jonathan explain the early days and was considered to be the turning point with regards to being promoted to product manager and the taking over of another site (basically they were expanding). I am unable to say what else happened from there on wards but I do know that he did go on to launch Gibwork which is an online job board and from there most of the people on the rock of Gibraltar only remembers him from Gibwork (once again this is a small place and sometimes can be a disadvantage if all does not go well). In all honesty, this page has spread like news and you could say is raising debate as to why is it being considered for deletion being the warning message is very public and can be an embarrassment for anyone if you ask me. I only want the best for the man and there are some that do deserve to at least be reconsidered (turning around the deletion process) and make it as reliable and informative as possible. On a second note I don't want this to ruin my reputation in his eyes and cause further issues offline. Lets work together and I would appreciate it if you could guide me in the right direction.

By the way I just read that you have mentioned copyright from Zoominfo? You are serious right? They mirror the content that is found on business sites which means that they search and find working class people and paste this on their site after reviewing the content as legit. I would suggest you look into how zoominfo gain there content before making a big mistake and now I can honestly say (with all do respect) that you are very wrong in stating that THIS PAGE has infringed copyright. Please investigate before making such allegations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Access2013 (talkcontribs) 16:28, 17 July 2013‎

It would be appreciated if you would be kind enough to give a straight answer as to whether you are the same editor that was using the account user:Gibwork.
If you are not the same editor and have not checked the history of the page, you may not have read that User:Gibwork used whole sentences from other websites, such as the ones with "two metrics" and "would recommend anyone". (See this version.) It doesn't matter to Wikipedia whether the text was first published at Gibwork.com rather than Zoominfo; either way, it can't be re-used here, and needed to be re-written or deleted.
The Income Access page says it's a blog, which is not normally considered a reliable source. In any case it only supports one point about Costa's career.
You say most people in Gib remember him from Gibwork – that sounds like a promotional claim; if there is no actual third-party news about it, notability is not demonstrated.
If you would concede that there are no independent sources about Gibwork or Jonathan Costa, then I can speedily delete the article, which may save further embarrassment of the kind that you describe. Let me know if you would prefer that. – Fayenatic London 17:57, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

No this is not the same person and apologies if this was not clear in enough in my last message. With regards to the content used, now I know that it cannot be "reused" and if need be I will remove it if that helps resolve pending issues. When the changes are made, the admin of the page should be notified of the changes like the last time right? I mean they will be able to see why I removed it by leaving the reason for the change.

Using the word embarrassment is my assumption and not what someone else feels so lets not base too much on that. It seems I have to be very careful in how I choose my words here as it can be taken incorrectly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Access2013 (talkcontribs) 19:28, 17 July 2013

Hello and apologies for getting back late but I have had to fly out of Gibraltar. I am glad to see that the thread is shared across. May I assist in any way to clear up anything that is a problem to wikipedia? - Gibwork (talk) 20:52, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The copied content has already been removed, mainly by me but you (Access) also pruned the article from the version that Gibwork had written.
Not sure what you mean by "the admin of the page" as Wikipedia is a collaboration and nobody WP:OWNs any page. To explain your changes, simply use the edit summary – as you are already doing.
If neither of you can come up with more independent sources to support the article, you might as well give up now and let it be deleted. I checked Alexa for the page view stats on gibwork.com [1] and that does not confirm notability either.
I suggest you both join Wikipedia:WikiProject Gibraltar where you can work with other editors on more important gaps in Wikipedia. – Fayenatic London 07:20, 18 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have checked [2] and it seems to be claimed. The stats apparently will not show because it is below the 100,000 site rank. site description and contact both mention Jonathan Costa a CEO and Founder of Gibwork which should help confirm notability as previously mentioned. I am working to keep this site and would appreciate a bit of support and guidance into helping the page stay online. Access2013 (talk) 01:55, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Best advice? Try to get a couple of publications in the Gibraltar press to run stories on Costa. Meanwhile, the Wikipedia page is probably going to be deleted shortly, so copy it into your sandbox (see link at top of page) to help you get started again later, once there are independent sources that you can refer to.
Also, take an interest in improving other stuff on Wikipedia. When stories come up in the Gib news that could be of wider or lasting interest, add them into the relevant articles here, providing citations to your sources. Other editors will take you more seriously if they can see from your contributions that you're not a single-purpose account. – Fayenatic London 07:13, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
