It is a good article but doesn't quite meet FA standards: the lead is a little too short and it could do with some more footnotes. Gorilla page

Good work changing and rearranging this page; however, I pulled the videos off. Perhaps there could be a link to those in See Also or something, but the way they appear takes up a lot of space and the videos themselves aren't all that informative, particularly since they show gorillas in an amusement park.Bob98133 (talk) 17:47, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Zebra

Hi Bobisbob! Thanks for your note. I looked over the Zebra article briefly (though I'm not an expert) and it really looks pretty good all around - I know I learned a lot! I can give it a more thorough reading as soon as I get a chance - though it might not be too soon. A general guideline is to present information that is generally valid for the group the article is devoted to, things that distinguish it from other groups of organisms at a similar taxonomic level, and leave the details for the species articles. However, since "Zebra" is a high-profile article and likely the only stop a reader might make in acquiring general knowledge about them, it is probably good to at least touch on the range of behaviors shown by the various species, with (hopefully) greater detail in the subarticles. I understand what's going on now. You're image is on the Wikimedia commons, which should show up here on Wikipedia--except there's this darn book cover on Wikipedia blocking it. There's no easy way to move images, so I uploaded the animal pic to Image:Leopard green branch.jpg. As for the zebra, you should assume copyright unless it's explicitly stated that it isn't. You can write to the copyright owner and ask him/her/them to clarify the license or release it under a license we can use. You need to have the email permission confirmed through a system of volunteers called OTRS. They have instructions for the proper email template to have the owner use, and then you forward the email to OTRS. You'll have to upload the image and follow the steps at our sister project of Wikimedia Commons. Unfortunately I do not think you can do this anywhere else. Read more here. However, I will say that I don't think it's worth the trouble for an image with a huge signature on it like that one. It's not appropriate for the encyclopedia. VanTucky 02:14, 31 January 2008 (UTC)

The idea for nominating is an article which is quite big and important, and, with some work, might be able to pass FAC. All the articles need varying amounts of work. Some only a little bit and some a lot. In these situations it is often tricky to strike a balance between a lot (when people lose interest before it is ready to nominate) or a little. Have a look at each entry. All need references from Reliable Sources entered, and many need alot more. Polar Bear looks most popular and is not too far off FAC but has sections nearly empty. Spotted Hyena is more complete but needs copyediting and referencing too. Hi Bob. I removed Image:LionChaseZebra.jpg‎ from the Lion article because its description indicates that it is a commercial, copyrighted photo. I also noticed that Image:Derriere.jpg‎ also appears to be from a copyrighted source. In order to use these images we must actually have evidence that they have been released by the copyright holder under a free license. This can be done either on the source website (e.g. Don Getty putting a notice on his website that this image is released under Creative Commons), or by the copyright holder sending an email to permissions@wikimedia.com. If either of these things has been done, please update the images to indicate that. Otherwise, I'm afraid the images will have to be deleted. • Public domain means that the picture is not protected by copyright: either the copyright has expired (many countries impose a term of 70 years after the author's death), or it is legally exempt from copyright (usually due to being made by the country's government - different countries have different laws about it), or the author has explicitly declared that he releases it into public domain, allowing anybody to use it for whatever purpose. An image cannot be assumed to be in public domain just because it has been circulating in public for some time (perhaps technically against the law). Do you know the original source and author of the image, and is there any evidence that the author either died 70+ years ago, or actually released it into public domain (or that it is in public domain for other reason, see Wikipedia:Public domain for more details)? I have nominated several images that you uploaded for deletion: Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2008 February 15. In each of these cases, I have seen no evidence that the owner of the photo released it under a free license. If you have evidence that a free license exists, this is a good time to present it. I have to emphasize that Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously, both for legal reasons and because it is essential for keeping a good relationship with the photographer community. Remember that the phrase, "this photo is public" does not mean it is in the public domain. There's a guide to getting images from Flickr on Wikimedia Commons. Flickr photos should be uploaded there, so if you don't have a Commons account I would suggest making one. Flickr is usually a very good place to look, but you have to be careful to make sure you got the right CC license. Some advice

I notice you moved infanticide to Human Infanticide. When considering making moves like this, please discuss them on the talk page first as they are likely to be controversial. It also seems somewhat pointless to change the name if infanticide is just going to redirect there anyway (the old name becomes a redirect to the new when you move a page); if you were to move it the old page would have to become a disambiguation which gives the reader the option of going to human infanticide or infanticide (zoology), though I suspect most people would be looking for the former (most general encyclopedias don't even have an article on infanticide in animals (nor did Wikipedia until I started one)), hence leaving it at its current name (there is a hatnote, after all) would be best. In this case the title should be human infanticide, not Human Infanticide as well. A lot of new editors, myself (formerly) included, tend to get this wrong. Articles, headings within articles, and words in general are generally not capitalized unless they should be for some reason, e.g. they are a proper noun. See naming conventions for more on this. If you do move pages in future, also ensure you fix any double redirects.

By the way, when uploading free images, e.g. those in public domain, creative commons etc, please upload them at Wikimedia Commons. Just create an account here and link it at your user page, then all projects and users can access them from one central place.

This is, if I recall, the third time you've uploaded a shot from the same BBC documentary and the umpteenth time you've added it to the Orca article. You asked me earlier if it would be fair use and I said no, and there has been extensive discussion on Talk:Orca about why the picture cannot stay in the article, so please stop trying to add it. If you continue to re-add this picture you may be blocked, which means that for a time you will not be able to edit Wikipedia. I think you might be having difficulty understanding our image policies.
