Copyright problem: Beltsville Speedway

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, such as Beltsville Speedway, but we regretfully cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from either web sites or printed material. This article appears to be a copy from http://www.thevintageracer.com/tracks/beltsville.htm, and therefore a copyright violation. The copyrighted text has been or will soon be deleted. While we appreciate contributions, we must require all contributors to understand and comply with our copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously, and persistent violators are liable to be blocked from editing.

If you believe that the article is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under allowance license, then you should do one of the following:

It may also be necessary for the text be modified to have an encyclopedic tone and to follow Wikipedia article layout. For more information on Wikipedia's policies, see Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

If you would like to begin working on a new version of the article you may do so at this temporary page. Leave a note at Talk:Beltsville Speedway saying you have done so and an administrator will move the new article into place once the issue is resolved. Thank you, and please feel welcome to continue contributing to Wikipedia. Happy editing!

While there is now less of a copy/paste issue, it still reads as a close paraphrase and requires further rewriting. VernoWhitney (talk) 21:36, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the effort you put into the article. It no longer appears to be a copyright problem of any kind. Keep up the good work! VernoWhitney (talk) 02:38, 9 April 2010 (UTC)
You're welcome, VernoWhitney. GVnayR (talk) 15:55, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Help

Can you help me edit this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_theatrical_film_production_companies to follow the same format as the distributors page, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Theatrical_Film_Companies? It is a lot of work and I would appreciate your help.

  • I clicked on both links and I saw that the pages were deleted. Besides, I specialize in Japanese video games and old NASCAR races. Thanks for offering but I respectfully decline. GVnayR (talk) 14:59, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I don't understand the use of this category. How is this an important way to categorize races?

On a side note, I don't understand why you used the word "Former" in Category:Former NASCAR Cup Series champions. While that is a useful way to group articles, there is only a single current champion. Royalbroil 04:31, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

This is a way to determine which manufacturer won a certain race in NASCAR history. According to the data gathered so far, Chevrolet won the most races. GVnayR (talk) 16:04, 4 May 2010 (UTC)
But why does this need a category? Chevy has won so many races. How is this a useful way to group races - by the car make of the winner? Royalbroil 04:09, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Some people may want to know exactly how many wins Chevrolet has won between 1949 and the present day. Some goes for Toyota, Ford, Dodge, Pontiac, and all the other brands. By categorizing the exact wins each manufacturer has got, you instill some pride into the brand name. GVnayR (talk) 15:55, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
I have started a thread at WikiProject Motorsport about grouping race wins by manufacturer. Please comment there with your opinion. Royalbroil 13:04, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Former NASCAR champs

I have created speedy rename nominations for the categories that you created for NASCAR champions because categories aren't supposed to have "Former" in the title. They're all former champions in the sense that the word former means in the past. You can read about it in the naming guidelines at Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(categories)#Occupation which was my rationale. You can oppose these changes at Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Speedy#Add_requests_for_speedy_renaming_here. They'll likely happen in 48 hours if you don't.

Otherwise I see that you've been doing a good job creating race articles about races from the earlier days of NASCAR. I can't see a pattern to what you're doing - but in an case it looks good. Once in a while you've started articles on drivers that were in the back of mind to do. Royalbroil 14:06, 8 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for commending my hard work towards the articles that I created about the old NASCAR races. In fact, I specialize in old-school NASCAR in addition to Japanese video games. My appreciation for NASCAR started around 2006 or so. Since then, I have been curious to know every milestone and race that NASCAR has ever done. GVnayR (talk) 03:55, 9 May 2010 (UTC)

Tenchi Muyou! Game Hen

Greetings,

I would like to extend my appreciation for the thanks and in return, say that you're welcome :) I absolutely love the Tenchi Muyo! series and when I got my hands on the ROM of the game I couldn't stop playing it. I hadn't revised an article in a long time and remembering the game made me curious to look it up on Wikipedia.

Again, you are very welcome :)

Trortured tenses

I can see absolutely no justification for a separate article on the death of Fireball Roberts. What is there in your text which cannot be added to the Fireball Roberts article? (Yes, we do have some "death of" articles - murder of Sally Anne Bowman springs to mind because it happened within a couple of miles of my house - but they are only needed when the dead person has no other claim to notability.)

In your text you used "would be" or just "would" three times in the first two sentences. What was wrong with: "Fireball Roberts was involved in a terrible crash at the 1964 World 600 and was sent to hospital in Charlotte, North Carolina. He died on July 2nd of that year; leaving behind a wife …" I appreciate that the use of "tortured tenses" like this is widespread among American writers. If you can, please explain on behalf of all these people why the use of such tenses is felt preferable to the simple past. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 15:06, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

I happen to find the phrase "sent to hospital" a bit too British and news-like for my tastes. I learned most of my English as a young boy watching American television shows and they always said "sent to the hospital" or "going to the market." GVnayR (talk) 15:20, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Actually "taken to hospital" would probably have been better. At least you did not use the horrible British journalese where people are always "rushed to hospital" irrespective of their condition! But what do you say about the "would be"s? I repeat: do not take it personally - I have seen it from many different authors. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 16:24, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Infobox video game

There was a discussion about standardizing the infobox and dropping some fields, which resulted in a big overhaul. Just so you don't waste time on adding obsolete fields. Prime Blue (talk) 10:00, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm very sorry about that. GVnayR (talk) 13:43, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

The article List of Major League Baseball teams by population has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Article is just a list that isn't even fully sourced and doesn't have a real purpose. Seems to be in line to be more original research ("hypothetical cities").

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Blahblah32blahblah (talk) 20:33, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

A discussion has begun about whether the article List of Major League Baseball teams by population, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of Major League Baseball teams by population until a concensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Muboshgu (talk) 01:29, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

You need to "subst:" the cfd template per WP:CfD. Rich Farmbrough, 15:33, 12 September 2010 (UTC).

Thanks for remininding me. I'll try to remember next time. GVnayR (talk) 15:35, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Private Eye

Greetings. I noticed you made some additions to the article for Private Eye. However, as the information you added was not backed up by a reliable source, it was undone. If you have a source indicating that Atari was distributing the game on behalf of Activision, or that the "Model A" suggested by the game's instruction manual is the specific style you attempted to wikilink, by all means include it before adding it back. If you have any questions, please leave them here or on my talk page. Thanks, and happy editing! --McDoobAU93 18:44, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
