Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them. If this is not the case, you may have been blocked or your IP address caught up in a range block.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

We normally use hyphens in modifiers[edit]

Hello Golden Mage, I saw that you changed "African-American" to "African American" in several articles. This is contrary to the consistent use here on WP: African-American as a modifier (i.e. in combinations such as "African-American history") is written with a hyphen. January 2023[edit]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles. There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. There is no need to fix redirects, per WP:NOTBROKEN, and the United States can be abbreviated as US or U.S., per MOS:ABBR. You were cautioned about these sorts of edits on December 6. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:24, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. I noticed a recent edit you made does not have an edit summary. You can use the edit summary field to explain your reasoning for an edit, or to provide a description of what the edit changes. Summaries save time for other editors and reduce the chances your edit will be misunderstood. For some edits a summary may be quite brief.

The edit summary field looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please provide an edit summary for every edit you make. With a Wikipedia account you can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → check Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary, and then click the "Save" button. Thanks! Rsk6400 (talk) 05:55, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Remini article[edit]

Please disregard my revert of your edit to the Robert V. Remini article. You were totally fine. I have self-reverted. Thanks. Display name 99 (talk) 00:22, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Red links[edit]

Hey Golden Mage! You may have noticed that I reverted your recent edits to Operation Beleaguer. I think you made these in good faith, but red links on Wikipedia are actually OK (and sometimes even a good thing). If you're curious, you can read more about the reasoning at WP:RED. TL;DR: Wikipedia is always expanding, and so editors link to pages that will likely exist in the future but haven't been created yet. I know they look ugly (I hate the look, too), but they shouldn't be removed unless you have a reason to believe that those pages will never be created. If you DO have a reason to think that the links you removed will never exist, please discuss on the talk page. SilverStar54 (talk) 18:28, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

February 2023[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm CastJared. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, The Last of Us (TV series), but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at referencing for beginners. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. CastJared (talk) 09:18, 9 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Nick-D (talk) 22:24, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of red links[edit]

You've removed a red link at Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, but didn't give any justification in your edit summary. A quick google search reveals that the person is very much a reasonable red link. I've reverted you. Then I looked at your contributions and I see that you're removing multiple red links without providing justifications. They too look like reasonable red links. At minimum you need to justify why you're removing them in the edit summary. But I am wondering why you're doing this. DeCausa (talk) 13:29, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

After posting the above, I see someone else has already raised this with you. Do you understand the function of red links in Wikipedia? Read WP:Red link. DeCausa (talk) 13:39, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

NOTBROKEN[edit]

I think you should read WP:NOTBROKEN. Basically we do not change links based on case to avoid redirects in most cases. Canterbury Tail talk 18:25, 19 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You also do not need to add MOS:OXFORDCOMMAS if they are not consistently used throughout an article. TylerBurden (talk) 13:38, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Golden Mage: seems to be still doing this, doesn't seem like they've ever read their talk page or acknowledged any reverts of their revisions. FutureFlowsLoveYou (talk) 18:58, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@FutureFlowsLoveYou I see now that they have previously removed messages with people raising these concerns, unless they respond, the issue may need to be raised on WP:AN/I. Enforcing ones own subjective personal preferences is not only a waste of peoples time, but in violation of the MOS. TylerBurden (talk) 20:39, 19 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for August 20[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Columbian exchange, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hop. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:17, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Administrative inquiry[edit]

Hi, Golden Mage. I'm Tamzin, and I'm an administrator here. One thing I do here is look into cases where multiple accounts have interacted in an unusual manner. I have a few questions for you at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Datu Hulyo, and would request that you answer them at your soonest convenience, before making any further edits elsewhere. Thanks. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she|they|xe) 04:52, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for persistently making disruptive edits.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please review Wikipedia's guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text to the bottom of your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  Lourdes 09:05, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Editing without communicating throughout your tenure here while continuing to make mistakes (and taking no effort to address them) is taxing the time of our productive editors. While I am indefinitely blocking you, you need to do the below things for administrators to be confident that they can unblock you:
  1. Respond to the query asked at User talk:Golden Mage#Administrative inquiry. As I have blocked you, you will be able to respond only on this talk page; please do so.
  2. Confirm that going forward, you will communicate with other editors when they raise queries.

Once you do the above, you can use the procedure listed in the unblock template to request for an unblock. Thank you, Lourdes 09:08, 21 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
