Because of newyears I was away for the last few days, but I'm afraid I wouldn't have supported Ibaranoff after the new answers to questions. I would have liked to expand my comments, but it's a little late for that now. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:48, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Notability of Kevin Eikenberry (moved from todo list)

Hi Martijn, I hope it is appropriate to leave you a note here. I made a change on the Kevin Eikenberry to show 'notability' which you felt was lacking. The books he has authored merit the Wiki page (IMO) themselves, at least his "Remarkable" book. I originally tried to leave that content out because having it makes the site more commercial than I prefer, but I wanted to meet you requirement.

  • I don't usually contact people like this, but no one has ever placed in doubt one of my pages and I have been on Wiki for 5-6 years of so editing under 3 names. Macherin is the city I live in, I used my 2 email name from my jobs.
  • if this format is wrong, you have my apologies. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Macherin (talkcontribs)
I took the liberty to move this note to my talkpage. I'm still a bit concerned about the issue that Eikenbery's notability is limited to the book "Remarkable leadership" and the reception thereof, which seems to go against WP:BLP1E. If you agree, a content tweak and a move to Remarkable leadership would be in order. How would you feel about that? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 18:14, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Caremar

Why you marked that way the Caremar article? It IS notable, as it serves some hundred thousand people every year. Why don't you check some totally unrelevant US city articles where lines and lines are devoted to Elementary schools or quarter feasts? Ciao and good work. --Attilios (talk) 12:51, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Attilios, and thank you for your comments. I markes Caremar with a tag questioning it's notability, because the article does not explain why the company is important (or to put it fancy: assert notability). Unfortunately, there aren't any independent reliable sources supplied that would show the notability of the subject. This also makes it fail the core policy of WP:V. That is the reason why I put up an unreferenced template. I hope you understand now why I will be putting the templates back up. If you improve the article to take care of those issues, do feel free to remove the templates again. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Page created in error

Thanks, sorry I forgot for a moment about db-author. MilborneOne (talk) 19:42, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

notability of Wheel (route)

hi. you marked this article for notability. it was redlinked in American Football Strategy under Offensive Plays and Offensive Nomenclature. the page was created as the last of the list of common routes in American football (see curl (route), slant (route), etc). currently the 9 or 10 common routes each have their own stub article, and none of the others have notability questions. I, personally, would not object to combining these articles into one article if you feel strongly about it. but as one of a group of articles i think its notability is established and in fact to have articles about the others and not about the wheel route would be a mistake. thanks Jieagles (talk) 22:36, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi, Jieagles. Nah, I don't feel all that strongly about it. Feel free to take down the Notability notice if you want to, sounds in order. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 22:40, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

ROsubbed

Please do not just tag articles with PROD as you did for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ROsubbed

This is vital information just like other parts of a dictionary that an average person may not need or even understand just like some info you may find on wiki like info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Seven_Samurai_20XX_characters#Zex

For example somone is due to download a movie and it's listed as ROsubbed - if they could know what it is before hand - they could save a ton of time and energy / electricity for everyone... —Preceding unsigned comment added by InGearX (talkcontribs) Dated: Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 19:00, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Conan Comics...

Is it really clearer to change the name of Conan (Dark Horse Comics) to something so close to Conan (Dark Horse comic). I will admit the original name was horrible... but is this better?

Duggy 1138 (talk) 22:45, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

For the character, how about Conan (Dark Horse Comics character)? And for the series Conan (Dark Horse Comics)? It might be a good idea to have a disambiguation on the top of the page refering to eachother if confusion may arise. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:21, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Thinking about it, are you sure they seperately have enough notability (WP:N)? Won't it be a better idea to merge the artcile on the character in to the article on the series? There seems to be a bit of overlap in the articles already. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:49, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
It was about the character it was about
* Dark Horse Conan Comics - Conan, Conan: The Cimmerian, one-shots and mini-series, collections.
* Conan (Dark Horse comic) - The Conan series.
* Conan The Cimmerican (Dark Horse comic) - The Conan The Cimmerian Series.
But it's a moot point now, someone's redirected the first page deleting all the information about the one shots, minis and collections.
Duggy 1138 (talk) 18:50, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Please could you take time to pop over to the MedCom wiki so we can have a go at solving the dispute? It's been going on for a while now, and we really need to get cracking to come to an amicable end. Thanks, Ryan Postlethwaite 20:05, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

musical act failing to meet WP:BAND

Hi Martijn

This is my first article here. (though I post alot on our company wiki)

You commented on the article musical act failing to meet WP:BAND.

Before I post new articles, I would like to get my info straight.

Could you explain this?

Thank you in advance

NPW

Can you add Page.cs to the NPW SVN? ;)

Reedy Boy 12:15, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Drat, it has no functionality yet, I just started building it. I'll remove it from the namespace and solution, and it should sail smoothly again. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 12:23, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, thanks. If your working on it, just have it in, and then you can easily work in the SVN version. As long as the files there, it should be fine! Reedy Boy 12:26, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't need to be in yet, I figured I'll first make the new files, and when those are done, I'll add them to the SVN, and start working over main.cs to phase them in, and WikiFunctions.cs out. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 12:28, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

This one was settled to moving the page to userspace. Maybe npwatcher makes it too easy to nominate articles. Just kidding -- I just wanted to make you aware of what happened. Cheers —Travistalk 01:27, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

I figured this would be the outcome, but (ab)used the AfD process for it. At least WP:NPW leaves properly formed AfD's at the latest build, the AfD of the release version is still rather broken ;) Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 11:06, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
As a second note, it would have indeed better if I had boldly userfied it myself, and tagged the remaining redirect {{db-housekeeping}}, with a note on the talkpage. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 13:41, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I’ve run across several instances of pages, usually archives though, being created in the wrong place. That was the second page I had to move in as many days, although I used {{db-rediruser}} instead. —Travistalk 13:54, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know. I speedied it again as blatant spam. GlassCobra 16:19, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi Martijn,

First of all thank you for your extensive reply. Indeed it does not meet all criteria.

e.g.

2. Has had a charted hit on any national music chart. <= yes

3. Has had a record certified gold or higher in at least one country. <= no 8. Has won or been nominated for a major music award <= no ...

11. Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network. <= yes

there are a few criteria they don't match. but i'm a bit confused. under what category. (not notable artists) do i have to place them?

suggestions/help is very welcome.

thank you so far for your time and knowledge! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Voldemort23 (talkcontribs) 21:07, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, the guideline actualy says "A musician or ensemble (note that this includes a band, singer, rapper, orchestra, DJ, musical theatre group, etc.) is notable if it meets any one of the following criteria:" If you can give reliable sources for the criteria that it does meet, I would withdraw the nomination. (They sound alright by the way) Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 21:53, 10 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks again. I've changed numerous things and added several references. If you would be so kind to take a look at them. I think it's super that you are willing to give your time pinpointing things to me huge thanks for that! I'm really learning here. Regards Voldemort23 (talk) 10:31, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
Welcome to the wonderfull world of wiki. It's a long established tradition here that when you say something is wrong, you explain why it's wrong, and how it should be fixed. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 10:43, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I've been looking at the page, but I still can't see any evidence of the charted hit, or rotation on national radio. Could you show me where I can find that? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 10:48, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

Patrol

  • Alright. Thanks for the note:)JuJube (talk) 11:51, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
    • As a note, if you do want to mark redirects as patroled, AFAIK the only way to do that is by manualy fiddling with the adress bar, putting in a "redirect=no" and keeping the rcid, or copypasting the rcid from the redirected page, clicking on the redirected from link, paste the rcid back in, reload, and mark patrolled (which is effectively the same thing). RE:Biting

Hello Martijn Hoekstra. I make a mistake by using the world 'crap'. I will not use that word in the future. I didn't know that the creator of that article was a newcommer. Thank you for pointing out my mistake. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 12:04, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

By far most creators of articles are newcomers. Possibly surprisingly, Wikipedia is written mainly by newcomers. The regulars usualy "just" style it and bring articles up to Wikipedia standards. I know how it goes on AfD, and sometimes you really think "wow, this is crap". I always try to be constructive in my criticism though, even if deletion is the best option in my opinion. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 12:07, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
I disagree. I have created over 100 articles and I know many established users who create articles. I was not trying to bite anyone. Can you please remove your comment from my talk page? Reagrds, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 13:16, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
You may have misunderstood my points. I am not implying that the "regulars" don't add and I certainly admire your efforts in helping the project to grow. And there are many others that do the same. The amout of new articles added by newcomers however is overwhelming. Why do you want me to remove my comment from your talkpage? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 13:26, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
That's because I was not trying to bite anyone. I should not have used the word 'crap'. However, I was not trying to trying to bite anyone. If you don't want to remove your comment, please write something about this issue in my talk page. I don't want anyone to get the feeling that I was biting someone. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 13:32, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
I left a comment there. I never ment to imply that it was your goal to bite. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 13:35, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok. Now, everything is fine. Regards, Masterpiece2000 (talk) 13:37, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry again for the misunderstanding. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 13:38, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Removal of garo's shells from shell accounts

It seems to me that it's best to keep this one, this isn't yet another free shell account provider. It's the only one that I have ever seen that enables network programs.

--84.195.241.5 (talk) 14:16, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Personaly, I don't think that any of the external links mentioned further the understanding of shell accounts. If Garo's is notable in this context, there should be independent reliable sources that assert that Garo's is the only one that enables network programmes, or something like that. I'll set up a section on the articles talkpage later, to see if we can find consensus (and if needed, run a RFC). Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 14:47, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

i need your help

clearly i cannot write an entry to save my life can you help me delete my contribution/article on the childballads? is that possible Samantha Bolasco di Lagorara (talk) 22:03, 17 January 2008 (UTC)samantha bolasco di lagorara

I hesitate to say: Yes, I can. Or actualy, you can do yourself, by placing a {{db-author}} at the top of the article. But why not work to make the article better? Or even keep it as it is, and lazily wait untill the community makes it better (a less appealing alternative, but an alternative nontheless.) Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 22:09, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

re: Deletion of David Shea

He has a page on imdb, why can't he have a page here? I am trying to get the word out about rising stars from my hometown, but i am new at this and cant make an EXTENSIVE entry. See also my page about Dan Buckner Kodemunky (talk) 04:12, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Because I don't believe he meets the notability guidlines in WP:BIO. If you think he does meet those guidelines, feel free to comment on the deletion discussion. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 12:24, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

stub placement (copy)

Hi, I just came across a new article you created (Bavelincourt), and I noticed you placed a stub tag at the top of an article. These tags are usualy placed at the bottom. Did you have a specific reason for placing it there? Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 15:53, 17 January 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I've been translating the equivalent commune articles from fr:wiki. The 'ébauche' tag in the French articles is always at the top; I've continued that on my English versions. You could move them if you want - I've only done about 320 so far ! Dickie (talk) 08:55, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I haven't moved more than a handfull. Do you use any tools to transwiki them? Maybe with an easy tweak of the tool we can automaticly move them to the bottom. We'll get through all of them eventualy manualy too if that's not possible. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 11:33, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

I use no tools - I just cut, translate, change commune template and paste. I will now put the stub tag at the bottom in future. Cheers Dickie (talk) 10:18, 19 January 2008 (UTC)

tlato thingy

If you dislike or feel are against policy the personal attacks by tlato-thingy on Talk:Adult-child sex, please warn him again, he's already been warned by User:Will Beback (then strangely altered his username and talkpage) and more recently by myself. I feel if he doesn't change his behaviour he needs to be blocked, personally. If he ignores a third warning by anyone I will report him to ANI, maybe. Merkinsmum 19:39, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Mersey Forest

The Mersey Forest article has been (and will continue to be) expanded - perhaps you would consider reversing the notability box? CustardJack (talk) 21:49, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

If you could supply a little stronger indication of notability, sure. You could also ask for more input in a request for comment. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 22:00, 23 January 2008 (UTC)
It covers an area of 820 Km2 and serves a population of 1.6m people and is the largest of the community forests. - I guess it compares in notability with somewhere like Naarderbos - but I will add an RFC. CustardJack (talk) 17:10, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the information, I tagged naarderbos for the same. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:17, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Johnston PhysX Engine

Hi, Just wanted to drop you a line and say that I mis-understood what was going on in the AfD for Johnston PhysX Engine. I had thought that the user was blocked during the time of the AfD and you brought it right after that. My mistake, I'm sorry. Hobit (talk) 04:43, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Nah, it was removing AfD notices. No problem though. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 09:47, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Martin!

Since I've found you in the recent AfD on Adult-child sex not too opposed to the general idea to strengthen our encyclopedia with reliable, comprehensive, substantial, and essential material also on unpopular topics, and since you obviously have a basic grasp of German, I've been meaning to ask about your support.

A thought I've been harboring lately is putting up an essay within my userspace on the main source for my draft (which is Bleibtreu-Ehrenberg 1985/88) to one day maybe be moved to Wikipedia, WikiBooks, or WikiEssays. I'd once put this up on the German Wikipedia as an article and it held up for half a year, from May 2006 until January 2007, until someone on a personal revenge crusade removed it by means of an AfD (where votes were split 50:50 and of course most wanting to get it deleted did nothing more than point to their severe disgust, although that AfD actually lasted for 2 months before it was closed). This essay of mine was actually so influential that I found literal quotes lifted from it in a nation-wide newspaper endorsing them, that literal quotes were endorsed by a German General Medical Council, and just the same with an official brochure issued by an Austrian government department, I found my very own words in all those cases. Googling for it, I found that a number of people had saved personal backups of the article in various places on the web, and there also were several forums debating its content while linking to my article on Wikipedia.

So, I've been meaning to ask you if you'd be willing to have a look at my German essay after I'll have put it up in my userspace here on the English Wikipedia and tell me whether you think it's a good idea for me to translate it to English and for the time being leaving it as the draft of an English Wikipedia article in my userspace to one day maybe be moved to Wikipedia, WikiBooks, or WikiEssays. The basic idea of this essay of mine is a Wikipedia article on an existing work (Bleibtreu-Ehrenberg 1985/88), comparable to articles such as Civilization and Its Discontents and Dialectic of Enlightenment. --TlatoSMD (talk) 02:11, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

Hi Tlato, although I agree that the article should have been kept, and strongly agree that the deletion should have been closed as no consensus, DRV had a fairly clear consensus on endorsing deletion. If I were you, I would just walk away, and respect the result of the DRV. If you'd like, I'll take a look over your German essay, but note that my written German is rather horrible. Again, I would urge you to let this specific topic rest, try not to give a fuck, and move on. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:39, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for participating in my RfA!

Are you interested in adminship?

If you want, I could write a Request for Adminship for you. You seem to be a good contributor who might use the tools well.--h i s s p a c e r e s e a r c h 12:59, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for the offer. I want to decline it for now though, for a few reasons. First, in the last few weeks I haven't been editing as actively as I have before. At the moment I don't need a mop. Second, I am currently involved in a mediation case, and although it's just a toolset, it may be perceived as more than that, and with that offset the current balance. If those things are resolved, and I hope they are in the near future, you may want to talk to user:Husond to see what his take on things is, and if he thinks it is a good idea. He has been monitoring me for a while, to see if I might be fit for adminship. Thanks again for the offer! Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:23, 28 January 2008 (UTC)

US Pro Cricket teams

Hi there. In answer to your query. I just used a standard template to start the articles for all of the teams that participated in this ill-fated tournament, with the intention of filling them out with more specific information when I had a bit more time. It was just easier to start them all off with the same template for continuity of appearance etc. Will be getting back to specifics about each team asap. Rac fleming (talk) 17:01, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Maybe it's best to remove the section about the 2004 season thingy though, and keep that in the pro cricket article, to avoid duplicate information. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 17:06, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

reference removed from PPA article

Good catch on that reference. I was preparing it for use with a different statement, it was not intended to go with that sentence. The same source was used in the Rind study article, so after I saw your change, I removed it from there too. --Jack-A-Roe (talk) 18:28, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

It's a good ref, but only to ref something relevant. Unfortunately, I can't check many of the other refs, but maybe when I have some time on my hands, I'll find a uni library, and check the books and papers. It's always hard when a book is cited without a pagenumber or a quote though. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 18:31, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
I rechecked the other sources too and figured out what happened. It was a group of references for a different part of the article. One of them is directly relevant to the Rind study, so I've removed the other one, re-stated the article text to more directly reflect the source, and confirmed it has page numbers. I corrected that in the other article also. --Jack-A-Roe (talk) 19:13, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
