Darbhanga[edit]

Why is it that despite Indian census report provided some miscreants has projected Darbhanga as the 5th largest city of Bihar whereas fact provided in the census clearly show Purnea being the 5th largest city in terms of population and area. Kindly check the facts and request darbhanga editors to stop misleading people through Wikipedia. Even in Bihar Wikipedia page you can see darbhanga is behind Purnea in terms of area and population. Let the world trust Wikipedia. Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajit.usp (talkcontribs) 07:41, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Ajit.usp: I tried to fix some of those errors. I will try to fix those errors again in a few hours. There seems to be some confusion due to different census figures for Urban Agglomerations (UA) and Municipal corporations. Thanks.—Jakichandan (talk) 07:48, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

On which criteria you are ranking the cities, population is not the only way of comparing two cities.population density in city of purnia is 3058 while of darbhanga is 16,058 which is way more than of purnia, cities can only be compared or ranked on the basis of development of medical, commercial and education and transportation facility.in which darbhanga is way ahead. Uday1990 (talk) 12:44, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Uday1990: We are not comparing the development but only giving population wise rank in the lead and the info box. You can also add density figures if you wish. Thanks. —Jakichandan (talk) 13:17, 11 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Why removed my edits on Tirhuta page ?[edit]

I fully cited the claims that I made on Tirhuta page. Why did you remove it? Ancient stone carvings identified as Tirhuta script has been found in Simroungarh of Nepal by the Department of Archaeology in Nepal. This information is not misleading by any means. It's fully substantiated. The journal published by the Department of Archaeology that I cited even contains an image of the writings found at the excavated cite. Scyfie (talk) 19:38, 28 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Scyfie: You changed the date of use of tirhuta script without proper explanation. Please use the edit summary to properly describe and explain your changes, although it is not compulsory, it helps other users to understand what you did. Thanks. Don't delete talk page posts[edit]

Please stop deleting talk page posts, either use the archiver bot or manually archive but don't delete/blank just because posts are old. —SpacemanSpiff 09:30, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

See WP:TPG, content on talk pages don't have to be sourced, they just have to be related to the article; while personal attacks and straight up vandalism can be removed, it is not good practice to remove something from the talk page just because it's unsourced. cheers. —SpacemanSpiff 13:15, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Raj Darbhanga[edit]

unsupported Maithili edit[edit]

Since someone's turned it into an edit war, I thought I should comment on your edit at Languages of India. You counted Maithili as Hindi while claiming you were not, and in addition duplicated it in the table, which means you counted it twice. In addition, the census figure you used is demonstrably incorrect. (There are about 40M speakers of Maithili, not 13M. Most speakers reported their language as 'Hindi' or 'Bihari' in the 2011 census, which is officially what it was when they went to school.) Maithili also does not fit in the table, as the source does not mention it. Whether it's official is irrelevant -- there's no purpose to adding languages to the table when our source does not have the numbers of L2 and L3 speakers for them. — kwami (talk) 00:20, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kwamikagami: I didn't revert your edit after you clarified in your edit summary. Someone else reverted your edits, Maybe, you should discuss with them to know why they reverted your edits. Thanks. —Jakichandan (talk) 00:28, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Sorry for pestering you with unnecessary comments. I did comment on their talk page, but figured I should say something to you too, so everyone's on the same page. — kwami (talk) 00:39, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kwamikagami: My edit was a good faith edit, and I thought Maithili wouldn't have been included in Hindi as it is recognised as a distinct language. The census mentions about 13M figure, so I mentioned it. I was in no way intending to "falsify" sources. By the way, are those 13m or so who actually reported their mother tongue as Maithili, also included in Hindi belt figures, in our article? Thanks. —Jakichandan (talk) 01:08, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for being irritable. (The last edit-war I was in was with someone threatening a block for me saying that England is a country like Greenland is, despite consensus for just that on the talk page. Idiots like that make me short-tempered with everyone, which I usually end up regretting.)

Yes, the figure for Hindi includes Maithili. There's a comment in the coding for what was included.

The figures are a bit ambiguous. For instance, suppose someone speaks Awadhi as L1 and "Hindi" as L2. Are they counted as native Hindi speakers (from one source), L2-speakers (from another source), or both? I have no idea if even the one-to-two significant figures I left in the table are justified, but the article on L2-speakers didn't separate out Maithili. And we should probably check their sources. If they just took them from the 2001 census, then we should update those figures in the table too. — kwami (talk) 05:56, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Udit Narayan[edit]

Hello ! Jakichandan page of Udit Narayan doesn’t seem legit. Please edit the label of Indian playback singer . His place of birth is a controversial as he has told he was born in Saptari,Nepal to Nepal and told Bihar to India . Review page and edit his origin as Nepal. He might be living in India and taken Indian citizenship but also has a Nepali citizenship as his both parents were Nepalese and his natives still live in Bhardah,Saptari,Nepal. So basically according to him he was born in Bihar in his maternal house but still is a Nepalese origin. So request you to edit the page as he is not particularly an Indian . Go through the articles Please! Edit needed . [1] [2] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.34.22.68 (talk) 17:33, 3 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Kingdom of Videhas[edit]

If you consider Mithila synonymous to Videha, then what was the capital of Videha called ? Manusmriti, Vishnupurana are more reliable sources than Gazettes like : http://lrc.bih.nic.in/Gazetteer/Saharsa/chapter-II.pdfScyfie (talk) 17:25, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Scyfie: What I believe or don't believe doesn't matter. Reliable sources do matter. And http://lrc.bih.nic.in/Gazetteer/Saharsa/chapter-II.pdf is a reliable source. We don't do WP:OR. Mythology and history are two different things. There has been Kingdoms and states whose name and capital's name has been the same. Moreover, the capital's name has been used as a synonym for the entire Kingdom or state in various cases. I think @Ponyo: might like to help. Thanks.—Jakichandan (talk) 17:36, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jakichandan: What if I show an equally reliable source that says Mithila was capital of Videha ? Would you still consider Mithila as synonym to Videha and revert my edits ?Scyfie (talk) 17:45, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Scyfie: There is no dispute over the fact that the term Mithila has been used to refer to the capital of the Kingdom of the Videhas. I am just saying that the same term i.e. Mithila has also been used as a synonym for the Kingdom of the Videhas. Thanks. —Jakichandan (talk) 17:49, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Jakichandan: So When I put Mithila as capital in the infobox of Videha page, why did you still revert it ?Scyfie (talk) 17:51, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Scyfie: Because in the same edit you made some other modifications also and removed things like "also known as Mithila". Thanks. —Jakichandan (talk) 17:56, 28 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mithila (ancient city) page[edit]

You have removed Farsi name of Mithila, calling it "not a native language". Farsi was used in the areas identified as Mithila in the article during the Islamic rule. Hence Farsi name can also be included as its native name. The Brahmipublication reference has this thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Scyfie (talkcontribs) 06:06, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Namaskar. You are doing good work for history of Bihar and Mithila. Please note that the Vikram Samvat widely used in India from ancient times, and still used is not the same as the Nepali Bikram samvat. Nepali Bikram samvat is a relatively modern invention (1901 AD [3]). It is unfortunate that the article conflates the two and creates confusion.

Jakichandan: can you explain whey you removed the following?

The classical Vikram Samvat in India, the months are lunar. The classical Vikram Samvat is either Chaitradi (North India, starting from Chaitra) or Kartikadi (Gujarat, Maharashtra, starting from Kartika).

Malaiya (talk) 17:07, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Malaiya: The article is confusing and I just removed some content due to lack of the citation of reliable sources. Please feel free to add information with reliable sources. Also just wanted to ask isn't classical Vikram Samvat used also in Eastern India?—Jakichandan (talk) 17:18, 23 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Jakichandan: The dividing line between Chaitradi Vikram Samvat and the Kartikadi Vikram Samvat occurrs along the Rajasthan/Gujarat and MP/Maharashtra borders. The Bangali calendar, and the Maithili calendar are fasli (i.e. tropical solar) calendars. So the the new Nepali Bikram samvat. Pahela Baishakh marks the beginning of these calendars which is widely celebrated in Eastern India. Because these calendars are tropical, they synchronize closely with the Gregorian calendar. Traditional Vikram Samvat is strictly sidereal, i.e. is based on the movement of the sun across the nakshatras. Malaiya (talk) 00:22, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Propriyam!: Please read wikipedia policies of wp:v. Also, take a look at WP:COI, since you have yourself said that you are a native Angika speaker. I have only reverted your edit to a previous version since you have not adequately explained why you removed sourced content. Regards. — Jakichandan (talk) 13:01, 29 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anon changing languages in Bihar-related articles[edit]

I see you have edited a few pages that I am concerned about, so I am asking you for advice and such. I reverted all of the anon's edits and others as well. I have no Indian background, so I hope I'm doing the correct thing!
2409:4050:eb2:bfe4:5d32:c2a5:bb9e:3a05 (talk · contribs) has changed the list of spoken languages in a number of Bihar-related articles. The number of this sort of edit seem to have increased as of late. An example a change is this addition: | demographics1_info4 = [[Bang]]-[[Maithili]],[[Surjapuri]]-[[Maithili]] Amusingly, Bang is a DAB page. On the Maithili language page, this edit, has an ES of Bang-Maithili is also the dialect of Maithili and we are also the part of Mithilanchal. So we request to all editor Don't remove our Identity by making Changes in this article. Being Maithili. was added. The change did not cite a source.
Any suggestions? I'm getting tired of this! Please ping? Watchlist overfloweth. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 11:16, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Adakiko: "No source was cited", I think you have your answer. Cheers. Regards – Jakichandan (talk) 13:45, 16 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Fortunately, the editor quit making those changes. Any idea what the language "Bang-Maithili" is? The editor(s) kept linking to that dab page. Googling "Bang-Maithili" didn't return anything other than the Wiki pages. Cheers Adakiko (talk) 18:43, 18 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Adakiko: No idea. Regards— Jakichandan (talk) 03:29, 21 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wait a second, bro[edit]

I have asked a template editor to add a parameter "region" in that template to have a more reasonable inclusion of information, for languages which aren't predominant in any country but are predominant in a certain part of a country, like Maithili for Mithila. Whatever I have done was in good faith for Maithili. Thanks❤! Haoreima (talk) 10:43, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Haoreima: I also assumed good faith, mate. We should wait until the "region" parameter is added. Cheers. — Mikeanand (talk) 14:10, 12 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
