Your username[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created User:NPMSO/sandbox, and I noticed that your username, "NPMSO", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you Reventtalk 12:28, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

AfC notification: User:NPMSO/sandbox has a new comment[edit]

I've left a comment on your Articles for Creation submission, which can be viewed at User:NPMSO/sandbox. Thanks! Reventtalk 12:30, 30 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames that give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} below this notice. Thank you. First of all, I would like to thank you for taking care to prevent vandalism and etc. I understood that my username "NPMSO" didn't comply with your username policy and I must change it to, for example, "Anna at NPMSO" to represent myself as an individual. It would be highly appreciated If you could allow me to change the username of my current account to comply with the username policy without creating a new one. Thank you in advance. That's excellent. But just consider this:

Here are a few key questions:

You are currently blocked because your username appears directly related to a company, group or product that you have been promoting, contrary to the username policy. Changing the username will not allow you to violate the 3 important principles above. Daniel Case (talk) 14:31, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sirs,

Thank you for your prompt reply and clarification. You are absolutely right that the current username is directly related to The North Pacific Marine Science Organization (PICES) that I represent and it doesn’t comply with the Wikipedia’s username policy. Is it possible to change the username to “North Pacific”? If it doesn't work, an alternative one could be "Scientific Collaboration". Please, advise. Thank you in advance. With best regards

Neither of those names are acceptable. "North Pacific" is still overly connected to what you're writing about, and "Scientific Collaboration" implies a shared account, which isn't allowed (both the shared account and the name implying it). Your name above (Anna at NPMSO) is acceptable, though. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 22:52, 11 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am sole editor for this page which conveys information concerning highly important scientific activity. The article in no sense promotes anything, is not asking anything (not money, membership or information). The work of NPMSO covers 1/4 of the earth surface and will be interesting to many readers. Dear Sirs, Thank you for your comments. However, we do not understand the reason of blocking our account. It is definitely clear for us that Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a business directory, and the article subject must be notable and without any promotional interests. Thus, firstly, we are representing the international intergovernmental organization established under a Convention for a North Pacific Marine Science Organization (NPMSO) to promote and coordinate marine research in the northern North Pacific and adjacent seas. Secondly, we would like to bring to your attention that Wikipedia has already contained the article of the similar scientific organization called the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES). It is the oldest leading multidisciplinary scientific forum for the exchange of information and ideas on all aspects of marine sciences pertaining to the North Atlantic. NPMSO is a Pacific version of ICES. In recognition of the Atlantic heritage, the nickname PICES (Pacific ICES) was adopted for the North Pacific Marine Science Organization. And this is the answer to your other question in the Sandbox directory –“The title is North Pacific Marine Science Organization but the article is about PICES. This must be clarified, please. One seems to be part of the other, but the article is not sufficiently clear”. We hope you find that our arguments compelling and our actions are in agreement with the Wikipedia policy, and will allow our article to be published in Wikipedia. NPMSO (talk) 18:17, 13 January 2015 (UTC)

Decline reason:

There are two problems with your unblock request. Firstly, you are using the first person plural 'we', which gives the impression this is a shared account. Secondly, you need to clarify that, if unblocked, you will not be using this account to promote your organization. PhilKnight (talk) 19:01, 13 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]
North Pacific Marine Science Organization, which you submitted to Articles for creation, has been created.
The article has been assessed as Start-Class, which is recorded on the article's talk page. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article.

You are more than welcome to continue making quality contributions to Wikipedia. Note that because you are a logged-in user, you can create articles yourself, and don't have to post a request. However, you may continue submitting work to Articles for Creation if you prefer.

Thank you for helping improve Wikipedia!
