You blocked KleeroyJ for using multiple identities. I just looked at User:KleeroyJ because I found some of their edits suspicious, and suspected it was the return of User:Iqinn, who was indefinitely blocked for edit warring in August 2011. Over the next three months I initiated two sockpuppet investigations when I thought I detected them using new identities to circumvent that block.

So, could you help me by filling me in on which other IDs they used?

87.84.143.100

I thought I should let you or that you could tell someone who has the power to do something, that IP address user 87.84.143.100 is deleting info on the Izabella Scorupco page and giving no reason why and shows no signs of stopping.[1]-68.75.19.4-68.75.19.4 (talk) 16:40, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

chkuser decline

I understand the rationale for your checkuser decline, indeed, it would be against policy to associate a named account to an ip. I did not consider that at the time of my nom, the previous examples I had were named acount socking to some other unknown named account. As a general question, how do sock investigations proceed if there is a mixture of named accounts and ips? How about just multiple ips? (linking two ips might be enought o identify a person, if the ips reveal work/school/home locations etc) Anyway, thanks for the clarification. Gaijin42 (talk) 18:47, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

With a mixture of named accounts and IPs in an SPI, only the connections (if they exist) between named accounts are disclosed. If there are only IPs listed in an SPI, then there is very little a checkuser could post that would help. All of the data on an IP (geolocation, WHOIS data) is already available to everyone. Vandalbots / sockpuppets

Is a rangeblock possible on these vandalbots? Reaper Eternal (talk) 13:46, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Unfortunately, no. They're jumping IPs pretty regularly. In addition, I would strongly suggest a rate limit on providing feedback through the MoodBar -one of those accounts did it 6000+ times. TNXMan 13:50, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
I've already filed a bugzilla report about this, and I got a developer to shut off the whole moodbar feature until this is fixed. Thanks though! Reaper Eternal (talk) 14:10, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Liberty Tax Service

Do you have any ideas on how to expand this article beyond stub status? Material added that cites the IRS site seems to be removed promptly, and one contributor removed one of the cited references, causing a lot of material to be removed subsequently for lack of references. The wavers are frequently described in various local newspaper articles, but this seems to be insufficient citation also. WRT Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/The undertow...

Two of the IP addresses used in the vandalism of Gang signals were from the same ISP.

You wrote "I don't think there's much an SPI can do here." Forgive me, but shouldn't a return to sockpuppetry merit an additional block?

Over on Commons:VP he acknowledge "his peers" were behind the vandalism. Isn't that, at a bare minimum, meatpuppetry?

The tools you have at your disposal -- I believe they tell you when an IP address is one that has been known to or is suspected of serving at one end an obfuscating tunnel that masks the true IP address. Can I ask whether you checked to see if that technique had been employed in this case? Geo Swan (talk) 20:44, 23 March 2012 (UTC)

I didn't see a need for additional action since there had been no edits since the 17th, which was five days before you filed the case. Much like reports at AIV, if an IP hasn't edited in several days, generally no action is taken. The same idea applies to the potential meatpuppetry. Blocks are preventative, not punitive -if they haven't edited in days, what are we preventing?
Actually, the checkuser tool does not provide information on whether an IP is being used as a proxy/VPN/etc.. It simply allows me to see which IP addresses a user employs (this information is generally not disclosed, per the privacy policy). Any information on IP details would come from the same sources available to anyone else -WHOIS data, geolocation, etc.. I hope this helps explain. TNXMan 13:32, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Reversion of edits

Hi Administrator,

I noticed you reverted a few edits I made to the Wiki site for "Public Policy schools" a few minutes ago. Your reason was that my edits were "non notable". I'd like to ask you to provide detail on your reasons for reverting the page so I can make a more acceptable edit in the future.

Was it because I had not linked my edit to a Wiki site for UNC's Public Policy Department? If that's the case, then I can create a page for my department since it does not currently exist. I would also like to request some advice on how to make it acceptable for Wikipedia-standard public consumption and so it does not get deleted.

As a side note, I do believe adding information about UNC contributes to the page in a meaningful way. The Department of Public Policy at UNC is an internationally recognized institution focusing on many aspects of policy. (See our website for more information: http://publicpolicy.unc.edu/). Faculty members produce cutting edge research and have wide influence within academia, think tanks, government agencies and committees, advocacy organizations, and international organizations. The Department at UNC is peer to many of the institutions currently listed on the page; to omit it from this public discussion would do a disservice to users of Wikipedia.

I look forward to your recommendations.

The only reason the name was removed from the list was because it did not have a related Wikipedia article. Lists should generally only contain items that link to other Wikipedia articles. If you create the article (see this guide), then you can add their name to the list. TNXMan 20:56, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

Carvoeiro SPI

Hi, looking at the various sockpuppets over the years in this case[2], editor "thechocolatebiscuit" and the IP does have slight differences form the others, editing a couple of other articles for example and also managing to behave themselves for quite a while initially. Therefore it may well possibly be a meatpuppet rather than a sock. My evidence suggested User:CityGirl24 to be more related to the original sockmaster and the other socks and has much more in common with them. Are you able to check it against those or are they too old now? It doesn't seem appropriate that possible serial sockpupeteers can simply return if they just take a long enough break. Thanks--Shakehandsman (talk) 21:16, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

reverts with reason of "non notable"

I've noticed that you have reverted a few changes to the List of LDAP software article using the reason of "non notable". What is the criteria for LDAP software being "notable" and thus allowed to be listed on the list of LDAP software. There are a few other clients that should be listed (i.e. GQ LDAP Client and Softerra LDAP Administrator) that I would be happy to add to the list if they meet the criteria. David M. Syzdek (talk) 00:21, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

The software must have a Wikipedia article first before it can be added to the list. You should read our guide to writing your first article before getting started. TNXMan 13:10, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)I have no horse in the race of ldap software, done care, but your comment on policy conflicts with an earlier statement of policy I was involved with. I deleted a bunch of items from a list, and got spanked hard. Please see Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/List_of_hotels_in_Malta if you would and comment how you think your statement and what happened in that AFD relate. personally, I prefer your stance, but like I said, I got spanked. Hi, will you look at the above unblock request? While I agree with your assessment of the technical evidence, given that there is no strong pattern of abuse (at least that I see), I'm inclined to unblock under the condition that they stick to one account. Thoughts? Tiptoety talk 05:19, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

I am uncomfortable unblocking more than one of these accounts. While their edit histories do not show a direct overlap, there is a shared general editing area, namely Chinese foreign relations. Well, the accounts are clearly the same -there's no need for a checkuser to tell you that. Any IP blocking will be handled by the admin that reviews the case. My input was simply that a range block (a block covering a large group IPs) is not possible at this time. TNXMan 15:25, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
Ok, i was concerned as i am pretty sure that some more vandalism will appear tomorrow as well, and from your reply I felt taht the case was unworthy, In my opinion blocking account creation and edts from the IP in question will be sufficient, as his contribution is purely vandalism. thanks for the response -- ÐℬigXЯaɣ 15:52, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

your experise on User:PearlandPete

Hi Tnxman, User:PearlandPete has been requesting unblock through IRC, indicating he is not related to the blocked IP's. User:WilliamH looked in to it, but indicated he needed you for additional evidence. I tend to steer clear from things I can't check myself, so I don't know what WilliamH was looking for exactly, but would appreciate it if you could take a look. Thanks, Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 20:16, 4 April 2012 (UTC)

Sure, I remember this from earlier. I did not use any checkuser data in declining their unblock request. Rather, given their protesting edits and the fact that they popped up as soon as two disruptive IPs were blocked for BLP violations on KSEV and Dan Patrick (Texas politician), it was clear to me they had created an account to avoid the IP blocks. However, I am definitely open to further review of the unblock decline.
On a related note, why did they turn to IRC to request unblocking, instead of posting another request on their talk page? TNXMan 13:51, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
Unknown why they jumped to IRC, but they've been extremely...vehement in their IRC requests, and I've informed them that they need to pursue this matter onwiki due to some issues with IRC he-said-she-said. A fluffernutter is a sandwich! (talk) 14:58, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

Need advice about sockpuppetry

Hi. I need some advice, and since your name was near the top of the Sockpuppet investigation page's edit history, I figured I'd ask you. Recently, I started a consensus discussion at Talk:Touré. I invited editors who had previously participated in a discussion on the same topic on the same talk page last year. One of them was User:Halaqah. Another editor has accused me of soliciting sockpuppets and meatpuppets, because, as he/she points out User:Halaqah is actually Touré himself, who has also used a username account with the same name, as seen here. (User:Halaqah seems to admit to his identity here.) I did not know this; I simply contacted editors who had participated in the prior discussion. But because of this accusation, I think everything should be transparent, so I wanted to ask, is this sockpuppetry? Or is this one of those instances in which having multiple accounts is allowed? I'm not really into that aspect of policy, so I thought I would just alert someone who deals with sockpuppetry more regularly. Was I right to contact you? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 02:48, 22 April 2012 (UTC)

It doesn't look like sockpuppetry to me. Toure edited briefly at the beginning of April, then stopped. Those were their first edits in months. Halaqah may or may not be the same person, their "admission" to being Toure seemed more sarcastic than truthful to me. In any case, they haven't edited since January. So there is so little recent activity, I think the best idea would be to let this one go. If both accounts resume editing (the same page) then we can dig deeper. TNXMan 13:48, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

While it may not be feasible to block them, I can do an edit filter modification that should shut them down (see EF #166 for an example). Thanks, NawlinWiki (talk) 20:15, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Mail

Hey Tnxman, did you get my mail from a couple of days ago? BTW, nice Facebook fan page you got, you douche! Thanks man, Drmies (talk) 13:54, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Thanks again. BTW, I don't remember signing off on your request for a little vacation. Hope you enjoyed--now back to the grindstone, my friend... Drmies (talk) 22:26, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

If you get a moment...

Do you think you could stop by Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/ChronicalUsual‎ and mete out some blocks for the sockpuppets of this highly persistent POV warrior? Thanks much. -Kudzu1 (talk) 13:00, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

They are editing again, notifying per your request though I suspect another webhost will be blocked. -- DQ (ʞlɐʇ) 04:28, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Sockpuppets of User:Seblodgett

I noticed you blocked a couple of sockpuppets that belong to User:Seblodgett. I think I found a few more since I noticed a similar pattern of sock puppet edits made on Chinese American. I would like you to investigate these potental sockpuppets further. The Elixir Of Life (talk) 17:54, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Potential socks

No comment on the IPs (per our privacy policy), but the accounts are matches. I've blocked several more. TNXMan 18:03, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

Update?

Can you explain to me what it means when you put a case on hold like this Nangarbat one.Ankh.Morpork 18:13, 9 May 2012 (UTC)

It means I'm still reviewing some information related to the case. I've asked other checkusers to review it as well. When there's an update, I'll post on the SPI page. TNXMan 18:14, 9 May 2012 (UTC)
