Disambiguation link notification for September 14[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of districts of London, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Albany Park (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Einstein & Bojangles[edit]

The unusual way I constructed a wikilink at Einstein on the Beach for its movement "Mr. Bojangles" was quite deliberate. I used "Mr. [[Mr. Bojangles (song)|Bojangles]]" to produce "Mr. Bojangles" to avoid creating the impresssion that the link would take the reader to an article about that part of Glass's opera, but to create a convenient link for the alluded song. I wasn't surprised that such subtlety wouldn't survive for long; mybe I should have left an in-code comment. Cheers, -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 08:59, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Lists of box office number-one films[edit]

I am very impressed by Lists of box office number-one films, but I do have one criticism. When I logged on to the article I did stop and wonder for a moment why there is a big empty table where the list used to be. Then I realized there simply wasn't any historical data for most countries, so I was wondering whether you see any benefit in having the most recent years at the top with 2015 down to 1960. I think this would be better for two reasons: readers wouldn't be confronted by a big empty space when they log on and they wouldn't have to scroll down in many cases to reach the data "rich" area. Please don't be offended by my suggestion, I am very impressed overall. Betty Logan (talk) 08:40, 30 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Template:Train topics[edit]

Hey W like wiki, I've noticed your work to improve this template. It looks much better now, thanks for your efforts! I wanted to run a question by you: the Passenger train article was created from a redirect by me in November 2021 (split out of train). At the time I decided to specifically focus the article just on heavy rail trains, but lately I've wondered if this approach is wrong and I should include other types of trains with passengers such as trams, light rail, and rapid transit. Such a change would affect where the passenger train article would be listed within the template, so I wanted to ask you about it. What do you think? Trainsandotherthings (talk) 17:07, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Trainsandotherthings: Thank you for your thank you! I am happy that you like it! To your question: even with trams, light rail, and rapid transit they are still Passenger trains, right? (English is not my mother tongue). So because we have two matching headlines: Rolling Stock and Passanger Rail it could be listed in one or in the other. In first case it matches with Train (Passanger Train). In the second section it matches with Named passenger trains. So I desided last one, but you can change it. In this case you can also delete Named passenger trains-Link. I think this (marketing) theme is not relevant enough for this overview. What do you think? --W like wiki good to know 18:48, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd say removing named passenger trains would be a good idea, we want to keep the template to the most essential topics. And I think you are right that trams, light rail, and rapid transit still fall under passenger trains. I will modify the hatnote accordingly and when I have a chance add coverage on those other types of passenger train systems. Trainsandotherthings (talk) 18:54, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, very nice! Just one aspect came to mind: in difference to the Train article where a big part is technology related (in the sections history, safety, Components, Motive power,..) the Passenger train article is more structured by different rail systems, actually nearly in the same way as in the template-box under the headline Passenger rail. So when I am thinking now, I would prefere keep it under Section Passanger Rail (and delete Named Passanger trains anyway ;) --W like wiki good to know 21:30, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Graphics display resolution[edit]

Regarding: Graphics display resolution

I know I didn't source those last several resolutions, but a lot of them I got from a list in the page for 21:9 aspect ratio. Does that count? NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 04:09, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @NintendoTTTEfan2005: thank you for your messsage! Actually not, I know there are still many resolutions in the table which are unsourced but it would be nice if this amount will reduce part by part and not grow. It is still a lot of work but at least to find one ore two products pages of established manufacturers with the regarding resolution I think is makeable. Regards --W like wiki good to know 04:25, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, well hopefully reliable souces exist for those resolutions. And I am definitely silly to think that something should be included in one wikipedia page just because it is included in another one that is similar. NintendoTTTEfan2005 (talk) 04:32, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@NintendoTTTEfan2005: Oh no, it is not so silly! I call it the search and need for consistency, which I share. Maybe it was a bit silly not to state any edit summary or citiation;) that's the space to explain your intentions and your sources, for your co workers here, for the readers. But I apreciate the work with you here for these articles! You are not one of those people who fight hard against everything new here or who protect the status quo against any improvement.
