This particular unit was designated as the "2d Battalion (Abn), 504th Infantry." The term Regiment wasn't reinstated until 2015 during an Army-wide redesignation of combat units. The conventional army term "Alpha", etc were NEVER used. I was in Special Forces for 20 years (commanded A-724 in the next building). It was considered rather amateurish.
