Progressive Labor Party edits

I am glad we appear to be nearing a concensus on what the Progressive Labor Party (USA) entry should look like, but as a member of PL I'm going to have to ask you to please ease up on the judgement calls on our line. For instance, you insist on saying that the party is "like a small church awaiting the rapture" and that it doesn't do any real anti-racist work other than violently confronting the Klan and Nazis, when in fact neither of these things, objectively speaking, could possibly be taken as true. I was trying to round out the line but you, and presumably some others, were attempting to take our views and distort them, which is not cool because it's straw-man faulty logic.

Hey, don't look at me, I think you must mean someone else. All I've done is fix a few typos and that kind of thing. Good to see someone from the party editing it, too. I don't agree with them about a lot of things, but I have read their newspaper Challenge on occasion. Everyking 06:22, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Whoops! Sorry about clobbering your copyediting on Seismic retrofit. My fault. - jredmond 16:24, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I recently changed to the "Long Black Vail" posting to include the correct spelling of Lefty Frizzell's name, the year it was first recorded, the names of the people who wrote the song, and the lyrics of the song.

You then changed it back.

If you think that your description of the song is preferable to the actual lyrics, ok. People can always go elsewhere for the actual lyrics.

I think it is important to include the people that actually wrote the song though. But at least removing the names of the authors is not false.

But you should not post false information. I fail to see why you insist on reverting to incorrect spellings and dates.

Lefty's son, the country music hall of fame and the roackabilly hall of fame all spell Lefty Frizzell with two Z's.

Two of the three above mentioned state that Lefty recorded Long Black Vail in 1959. The third site, the Country Music Hall of Fame states that, "But as the decade [1950's]neared a close, Frizzell scored a pair of back-to-back hits with “Cigarettes and Coffee Blues” and his original, classic version of “The Long Black Veil.” " I am sure you could get the specific date from the Hall if you pressed for it, but it certainly eliminates 1964.

Rather than make these changes myself only to have you undo them again, I thought I would express this directly to you. I am not a member and I have not edited any other item, so if you think that you have equally valid resources for the spelling of Lefty's name and the date he recorded the song, please post them here or in the actual entry.

I'm not 100% certain, but I know that all the birds are uppercase (Sabine's Sunbird, Sabine's Gull, Lesser-spotted Woodpecker) etc etc, and I assume that it is the same for mammals. Outside of wikipedia having common names upper or lower case seems to be a matter of personal preference, if all the journal articles I've read are anything to go by. Sabine's Sunbird 00:53, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

  • You're right, they are. And I've checked, they should be capitalised. I'll go sort that out now. thanks Sabine's Sunbird 01:03, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Ashlee Simpson

Since as a result of the Arbcom decision your banned from editing related articles, feel free to drop me a line on my talk page if you see any blatant lies or vandalism. I will be more than happy to rectify those problems, but only those types of problems.  ALKIVAR™ 08:24, 9 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Vandalism

Yeah, I suppose that would've been a good idea before I got blocked. Orange Life 23:04, 10 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Hi, you voted remove there without stating why. Nichalp is trying to address every concern people have regarding the article and I'm sure he/she would like to know what you find deficient. Please give some details there regarding what you think is wrong with the article. Thanks. - Taxman 21:01, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)

Personal attacks

I would greatly appreciate if you would stop making personal attacks against me on AN/I. Snowspinner 23:09, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)

I could care less about disagreeing with me, but I would like an end to the personal attacks. Snowspinner 23:38, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)

Administratorship

Thanks for your comments on Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Wilfried Derksen. Your comment made me aware of the necesity of filling in the Edit Summary line in case of non minor edits. It made ma also ware of careful labeling an edit as minor or non minor. I will change my way of editing pages by clearly selecting minor and non minor edits and to fill in an edit summary in the last case. With this comment I would like to ask you to reconsider your vote. Wilfried Derksen = Electionworld 16:30, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Portuguese Communist Party

Nice work correcting my mistakes in the Portuguese Communist Party, I'm really sorry about it, I'm Portuguese and I learned english mostly by myself, that's the reason of such amount of mistakes. Keep the good work --Afonso Silva 19:09, 17 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'm having problems moving Macintosh Quadra 575 to Macintosh LC 575.

The reason I want to move it to Macintosh LC 575 is because there was never a "Quadra 575". --KelisFan2K5 22:38, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I'll thank you to check the article's edit history before attributing things to me. You will see that Richard Muirhead was responsible for the words you deleted. I trust your apology will be as prominent as your accusation. Adam 08:19, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)

How you doing?

I just finish the Military History of Puerto Rico. I would like you to look it over whenever you can and like always fix what needs fixing. Thank You, Tony the Marine

Sorry for not assuming good faith. I shouldn't have bothered with the satire and gone on straight to the argument. No hard feelings, I trust? JRM · Talk 08:18, 2005 Apr 26 (UTC)

True true, but I don't understand it’s not like the Soviet Union was waltzing into the eastern European countries? I seriously doubt that many eastern Europeans greeted them as LIBERATORS....Hell I'm even willing to (cause I fought in Viet-Nam) that about 1/2 civilians and that country didn’t like me cause I was fighting for the USA and we bombed the shit out of their homes--198 06:37, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)

history in digital projects

I’m an historian working at the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University (http://chnm.gmu.edu/) and we are very interested in digital historical works, including people writing history on Wikipedia. We’d like to talk to people about their experiences working on articles in Wikipedia, in connection with a larger project on the history of the free and open source software movement. Would you be willing to talk with us about your involvement, either by phone, a/v chat, IM, or email? This could be as lengthy or brief a conversation as you wish.

Thanks for your consideration.

Singles

Instead of one short article and four stubs, we now have one reasonable article, and all the relevant information is in one place; I don't really understand your objection. Nothing has been lost (well, some fan gush and poor English). (At least one of the separate articles on the singles had been made into a redirect by another editor, for the same reason that I did it, and the article was recreated under a new name by an anon.) Mediation Cabal

Hello! I answered to your message at Wikipedia talk:Mediation Cabal there, so take a look and see!

I take it User:Wgfinley hasn't contacted you yet? You can always pre-empt him and drop him a line instead. Either on his user talk or per wikipedia e-mail or irc or what have you. You can also contact me if you prefer.

Finally I see some interesting views on wikipedia policy on your user page. Would you care to comment on WP:SR and WP:TRI ? Perhaps your insights might be useful. I think the mediation cabal probably will help wrt your comments on the arbcom, perhaps you'd even feel like helping out. Might be a cheerful experience for you! :-)

Have a nice day! Kim Bruning 16:14, 9 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Everyking, the edits to that page are occuring at too rapid a rate; you're not going to be able to get rid of that "article" normally. A block against recreation may be needed... and I suspect from the edit history that several anon. users are working together or that a dynamic IP is being used.--Chanting Fox 22:49, 11 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

On desysopping

"Re-elect sysops— Presently we have too many power-tripping, skull-cracking sysops. Require any sysop who is the subject of a petition with at least ten signatures to go up for re-election at the end of the year. Receiving less than a majority would mean being desysoped."

You are, I presume, aware of the last, horribly failed attempt at doing so: Wikipedia:Requests for de-adminship/Old proposal. Ignoring why this was so, you might also be interested in Wikipedia:Super-user and Wikipedia:User access levels. I'd personally much rather like to see adminship as simultaneously much more inclusive and much less of a big deal, by splitting up the responsibilities (which new versions of the software will make possible). We could grant "admin powers" liberally and take them away equally liberally from people found to abuse them. I think almost everyone could be trusted with rollback, many people could be trusted with the ability to delete pages and edit protected pages, and relatively few with blocking (and for "trust", you can also read "be interested in").
