Irish Whip Wrestling (IWW) is an Irish owned independent professional wrestling promotion established in 2002. The company was named in tribute to Irish professional wrestler Danno O'Mahony. A former professional wrestling champion in the 1930s, O'Mahony is credited as the inventor of the "Irish Whip" wrestling maneuver. Currently Irish Whip Wrestling runs over 50 shows all over the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Irish Whip Wrestling has appeared on Sky One, RTE, TV3, The Wrestling Channel and currently has a weekly show on Buzz TV. Two former members of its roster, Sheamus O'Shaunessy and Drew Galloway are currently under World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) developmental contracts.

Early years

Irish Whip Wrestling ran its first two shows in June 2002 in the ESB National Basketball Arena in Tallaght which drew hundreds of Irish fans to this huge event. Featured on these two shows was former WWE superstar Tatanka. Here are the results of the evening show:

After the success of these two shows Irish Whip Wrestling returned to the ESB National Basketball Arena on Wednesday October 9 2002. This show was headlined by former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) legend Jake "The Snake" Roberts. This event was an even bigger success drawing almost a thousand fans. During one match at the show, Jake "The Snake" Roberts defeated Flatliner.

Irish Whip Wrestling continued to promote shows around Ireland through 2003 and 2004. These shows featured the debuts of several current IWW Superstars including Mad Man Manson, Red Vinny and Vic Viper and also current WWE developmental superstar Sheamus O'Shaunessy. The shows were held in places including Mount Temple, Dublin, Laois and Carlow Town in July 2004, Laois again in August 2004, Cavan on September 9, 2004. In October 2004 a four-day tour was held in Ballynahinch and Bangor,Co.Down, Naas Co Kildare, Mount Temple, Dublin and Portlaoise, Co. Laois. On December 2, 2004 Irish Whip Wrestling held a show in Lucan,Co.Dublin. The main event featured an FWA title match in which Alex Shane pinned Sheamus O'Shaunessy with the help of Red Vinny.

"Lock-Up" Training School

In 2004, Irish Whip Wrestling opened up their 'Lock-up' training school in Dublin. Trainers at this school have included "Middleman" Lee Butler and "The Pukka One" Darren Burridge. The school has been hugely successful and attracted students from all over Ireland and eventually gained such a reputation that students travelled from other European countries to train there. Several graduates of the school went on to become trainers of the school themselves such as Bam Katrazz and The Ballymun Bruiser. The current trainer at the school is (also a graduate of the school) former 3-time Irish Whip Wrestling Zero Gravity Champion Bingo Ballance. On occasion guest trainers have made appearances at the school. These have included WWE Superstar D'lo Brown, TNA wrestler A.J. Styles, Former Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) wrestler Kid Kash, Former WWE Superstar Doug Basham and wrestling legend Tracy Smothers. The training school has also been host to the companys Gym Wars shows which gave up and coming trainees a chance to show theIr skills to IWW management and to a crowd.

2005 and the IWW Supershow 05

In 2005 IWW began running over 30 shows that year. It also started to showcase several graduates of its training school such as Mad Man Manson who went on a one year winning streak and 'The Heretic' Red Vinny who became one of the top cruiserweights in Europe.

On March 20 2005 Irish Whip Wrestling presented its first ever Supershow. It was held in the SFX arena in Dublin before 500 rapid wrestling fans. This show featured some of the top independent talent in wrestling including A.J. Styles, Christopher Daniels, Chris Sabin, Johnny Storm and Jody Fleisch.

Four days later Irish Whip Wrestling held a show in The Forum, in Waterford. This show was headlined by former WWE, WCW, ECW wrestler Raven.He teamed with Sheamus O'Shaunessy to defeat Red Vinny and Vid Vain in the main event. This event was followed by shows in Athlone,Roscommon,(March 25) Kilkenny City, (March 26) and Portlaoise, Laois (March 27)

On March 28, 2005, history was made when Sheamus O'Shaunessy was crowned the first ever Irish Whip Wrestling International Heavyweight Champion. He defeated Darren Burridge in the tournament final in Kildare. He would hold the title until May 29 of that year when D'Lo Brown shockingly defeated him to become the new IWW Champion in The SFX Theatre in Dublin at IWW's D-Day show. D'Lo Brown held the title for five months losing it back to Sheamus O'Shaunessy on October 2 in Newcastle, England to become a 2 time IWW Champion.

On April 24, 2005, the first IWW Gym Wars was held in the Baldoyle training school. Another seven gym wars would be held throughout 2005.

Through the summer of 2005 Irish Whip Wrestling held many shows in the Trabolgan Holiday Centre in Co.Cork. The shows ran once a week from the 28th of June to the 30th of August.

Towards the end of the year IWW returned to the Forum in Waterford on October 8. From there it ran its last show in The SFX Theatre on November 14 2005. IWW International Heavyweight Champion Sheamus O'Shaunessy defeated former [WCW] wrestler Vampiro on the show to retain his title.

In December 2005, IWW finished up the year with shows in Dunshaghlin,Co.Meath (Red Vinny's Hometown) on 17th and Lucan,Co.Dublin on the 18th.

Also in 2005 Irish Whip Wrestling got its own TV show. It was called Whiplash TV and was broadcast on Wrestling Channel on Sky Digital. The show was very popular and ran for two seasons showcasing the best Irish wrestling had to offer.

2006

In 2006 Irish Whip Wrestling began running more and more shows. It also seen the likes of Mandrake, Wayne Daly and Harry Hardshaw make their wrestling debuts adding to the increasing number of Irish wrestlers on the IWW roster. Also LA Warren made his debut that year coming off a successful run in NWA:Ireland.

The year began with shows in Stillorgan, Co. Dublin and Naas, Co. Kildare, in January, Blanchardstown and Ballymun in Dublin in February and Baldolye,(Gym Wars) Cabra and Skerries in March.

In April 2006 IWW held several shows around the country taking in Castlebar, Mayo on 21st, Swords, Dublin on the 22nd, Clonmel, Tipperary on the 23rd, Rathdowney, Laois on the 26th, Sligo Town, Sligo on 27th and finished it of with Gymwars 10 in Baldoyle, Dublin on the 30th. Highlights include Sheamus O'Shaunnessy successfully defending the IWW International Heavyweight Championship against the likes of Drew Galloway in a Last Man Standing and a Best of Three Falls Match and also against Pierre Marceau.

Throughout May and June 2006 Irish Whip Wrestling taped several episodes of its Whiplash TV show in the Laughter Lounge in Dublin City. It also ran counties such as Wicklow, Louth and Belfast, Antrim for the very first time.

Throughout July and August IWW ran shows in places such as co Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo. It also taped more of its TV show this time in the Forum in Waterford in July.

Also during the summer of 2006 a confrontation between IWW Commentator Eamon D'Arcy and IWW Wrestler Rick O'Shea occurred. It happened at a Gym War that they were co-hosting when O'Shea attacked D'Arcy for no reason. This led to a match between D'Arcy and O'Shea in D'Arcy's hometown of Drogheda on September 24 2006. In the match D'Arcy shocked his hometown crowd when he pinned O'Shea with a little assist from Mad Man Manson.

On August 27 in 2006 at International Intermingle Drew Galloway beat Sheamus O'Shaunessy to become IWW International Heavyweight Champion in Balbirggan, Dublin. This ended a near year long title reign title in which Sheamus defended the title against all comers including the likes of former WCW wrestler Vampiro.

From August to October 2006 the first ever King Of The Gym tournament was held in Baldoyle, Dublin. The tournament was held over the course of four Gym War events. Wayne Daly beat Mandrake in the finals to become the 1st ever King Of The Gym.

From October 2006 till the end of the year Irish Whip Wrestling primarily ran shows in Dublin. The areas in which events were held included Stilorgan,Swords,Ballymun,Lucan and Skerries.

2007:Birth Of The Zero Gravity Title

2007 kicked off with the creation of a new championship:the Irish Whip Wrestling Zero Gravity Championship. A tournament was held in Balbriigan on January 14, 2007. Bingo Ballance defeated Pac in the finals to become the inaugural IWW Zero Gravity Champion. Kid Kash was also a participant in the tournament.

Just three days later a new IWW International Heavyweight Championship was crowned Baldoyle, Dublin. The title had been declared vacant after Drew Galloway was unable to make several championship defences. Therefore a four way match was made to decide the new champion with Vic Viper overcoming Mad Man Manson, The Ballymun Bruiser and Kid Kash to becom the new IWW International Heavyweight Champion. Viper had a successful first title defence on February 18 in Ashbourne,Co.Meath against Mad Man Manson.

In March 2007 IWW held its 2nd Supershow in the Donnycarney Youth Centre in Donnnycarney, Dublin. In the main event Vic Viper defeated Christopher Daniels to retain the IWW International Heavyweight Championship. Others matches on the show included Colt Cabana and Mad Man Manson beating The Ballymun Bruiser and Payday Patterson. Also Bingo Ballance retained the IWW Zero Gravity Championship in a four way Donnybrook match.

In April 2007, Sheamus O'Shaunessy was called by the WWE for his second tryout match,(he had previously had a tryout along with Red Vinny and Mad Man Manson) which became a dark match against Jimmy Wang Yang in the Datch Forum in Milan before a SmackDown! taping. The following week in Earls Court in London, O'Shaunessy was once again back at a WWE house show, where more tryouts were held. This time, however, he was signed to a developmental contract. After receiving his contract, he was placed in WWE's newest developmental territory, Florida Championship Wrestling. He had also previously acted as a member of the WWE security team during a WWE Raw in the Manchester evening news arena in 2006 attempting to eject D-Generation X from ringside.

In May 2007 Drew Galloway also signed a developmental deal with World Wrestling Entertainment. He was initially posted to Ohio Valley Wrestling and on the October 12, 2007 edition of SmackDown he made his WWE debut as Drew McIntyre. In his debut match, Galloway defeated Brett Major. In early 2008 he was placed back into the developmental territories, this time with Florida Championship Wrestling

Also May 2007 Irish Whip Wrestling ran shows in Neilstown, Ballymun, Blancherstown, Skerries and Cabra(all in Dublin). These shows featured some of the top independent women's wrestlers like Lexie Fyfe and Portia Perez. On June 23 2007 held its 'Doomsday in Dublin' show. It was held in Combined Community Centre in Balbiggan. On this show Bam Katrazz beat Bingo Ballance to win the IWW Zero Gravity Championship in front of Bam's hometown fans. Top Pro Wrestling Noah stars Takeshi Rikio and Ippei Ota also wrestled on this show.

On July 6, 2007, Irish Whip Wrestling returned to the Forum in Waterford for its 'Global Impact' show. The match between the Ballymun Bruiser and Doug Williams was featured on TV3's Diary Of A Sportstar program. In addition to regular IWW roster this show featured current TNA wrestler Doug Williams, Dragon Gate's CIMA and Dragon Kid, Takeshi Rikio, Ippei Ota and Kid Kash. This show was recorded for DVD and is available on the Irish Whip Wrestling website.

The 5th Anniversary Tour

In 2007 Irish Whip Wrestling had been running shows in Ireland for five years. They celebrated this by running their largest tour ever in late October 2007. It ran 12 shows between the 19th and 28th of October.These shows featured some top international talent including Kid Kash, Tracy Smothers, Ring Of Honor's El Generico, and Dragon Gate's Lupin Matsutani and Kenichiro Arai'.

The show on the evening of Saturday October 20 in Kilkenny saw Red Vinny defeat Bingo Ballance to become the new IWW Zero Gravity Champion. Also Vic Viper successfully defended his IWW International Heavyweight Championship numerous times on this tour against the likes of Mad Man Manson in a Dog Collar Match (in Donnycarney), Kid Kash (in Stillorgan and Kilkenny), Mandrake (in Newry) and Bingo Ballance (in Neilstown).

This tour seen rising star Conor Hurley defeat the Ballymun Bruiser in his hometown of Kilkenny. The show in Ballyfermot on October 22 saw Ballyfermot's own Rugged Dillon Jones beat Tracy Smothers. As part of the tour IWW held an autograph signing in the Zavvi store in The Square, Tallaght with Tracy Smothers and Kid Kash. The tour was a major success with over 5000 fans total attending the shows. Several matches on this tour were taped for DVD and are on the International Hits Vol. 1 DVD which is available on the IWW Website.

Irish Whip Wrestling rounded off 2007 in December with shows in Blancherstown and Clontarf. At the Clontarf show the finals of the 2007 King Of The Gym were held. Brother Skelly pinned Andy Barton to become the 2007 IWW King Of The Gym.

2008: The March Tour

After beginning 2008 with two shows in Balbriggan and Neilstown in February. IWW ran a five day tour in March. This tour attracted the likes of former WWE Superstars Eugene, Rene Dupree and Pierre Carl Outlette to Irish shores for the very first time. The shows took place in Ballyfermot (March 13), Waterford, (March 14) Donnycarney (March 15 which took in a day and evening show), Cork City (March 16) and Mount Mellick, Laois (March 17).

On the Ballyfermot and Waterford shows Vic Viper successfully defended his IWW International Heavyweight title against Eugene. However at the day time Donnycarney show Mandrake pinned Eugene in a triple threat match involving Vic Viper to become the new Irish Whip Wrestling International Heavyweight Champion. This ended the longest title reign in IWW history as Vic Viper had held the title for a record 14 months. Mandrake's victory celebration was cut short when Rene Dupree marched to the ring demanding to be the first challenger for the title. Mandrake accepted the challenge and took Dupree on at the evening Donnycarney show. In this match Mandrake successfully defended his title as against.

Also on this show Vic Viper rebounded from his International Heavyweight title loss by becoming the Irish Whip Wrestling Zero Gravity Champion for the very first time. He overcame Red Vinny, Bam Katraz, Bingo Ballance, Liam Thompson in a five-way match to become champ.

At the show in Cork City, Irish Whip Wrestling got its largest crowd since 2002. Held at Neptune Stadium nearly 700 fans turned up to witness Irish Whip Wrestling. This show featured Man Man Manson defeating Vic Viper in a non-title chain match. Mandrake also successfully defended his title against Pierre Carl Outlette in the main event. The next night in Mount Mellick, Mandrake once again defeated Rene Dupree to retain his title. Also another autograph signing featuring Eugene and IWW wrestler LA Warren was held in Zavvi in the Square, Tallaght before the Ballyfermot show.

April, May & the return of Gym Wars

In April 2008 IWW held shows in Hacketstown, Carlow, Tullamore, Offaly and Neanagh, Tipperary. These shows featured IWW wrestlers squaring off against top British wrestlers such as T-Bone and Caiman.Shows in Mullingar, Dunshaughlin, Finglas, Ballymun and Coolock in May 2008. These shows saw the debuts of several IWW trainees including Popcorn Ryan, Keith Connolly, Billy Boy Meehan and The Bosco Hanley.

On June 1 Gym Wars returned after an 10 month absence. On this show IWW trainees Big Top Mongo and Working Class John made their debuts with Mongo losing to The Bosco Hanley and Working Class John losing to Wayne Daly. The main event had Keith Connolly square off with Andy Barton.

Another Gym Wars was held on June 22 in which a battle royal was held to determine the number 1 contender to Mandrake IWW International Heavyweight Title. The match ended in a draw with Rugged Dillon Jones and Harry Hardshaw's feet both hitting the floor at the same time. This led to a match between the two at the last Gym Wars which was held on August 24 2008. The match ended in a double count-out. Also in the main event Keith Connolly won a 12 man Battle Royal to become the 2008 King Of The Gym.

The return to the National Basketball Arena

On June 14 2008 Irish Whip Wrestling returned to the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght, Dublin. This was IWW's first time there in nearly six years. Wrestling on the show was a large amount of international wrestlers. These included current TNA wrestlers Raven and Davari (now known as Shiek Abdul Bashir) ROH champion Nigel McGuinness, Chad Collyer, former ECW and WWE wrestler Balls Mahoney and top British wrestlers Dave Moralez, Andy Boy Simmonz and some of the top IWW wrestlers. This show was a massive success drawing almost 1200 fans to the event. All matches at this event were taped for IWW's new television show on Buzz TV.

July 2008:Summer Heat Tour

In July 2008 Irish Whip Wrestling ran a 8 show tour around Ireland. These shows were primarily outside Dublin with three shows taking place in Co. Tipperary and two in Co. Waterford. On this tour Mandrake successfully retain his IWW International Heavyweight Title numerous times against former WWE Superstar Doug Basham most notably in Mandrake's hometown of Newry on July 3. Mandrake also managed to retain his gold against Balls Mahoney in Waterford on July 12. Balls Mahoney had a triple threat match earlier that evening against Vic Viper and Doug Basham to earn the title shot. Bingo Ballance also left the Summer Heat Tour still the IWW Zero-Gravity Champion despite stiff competition from the likes of LA Warren, Keith Connolly, the former champ Red Vinny and England's Wade Fitzgerald and T-Bone. English wrestler Joel Redman also wrestled on this tour. In Clonmel on July 11 Balls Mahoney took on T-Bone in a falls count anywhere in Clonmel match. The men battled out of the arena out onto the main street of Clonmel where the fight got so out of hand that local residents called the police.

The Dan O'Mahony Memorial Tournament

On August 15, 2008, Irish Whip Wrestling hosted a tournament in honour of Irish wrestling legend Danno O'Mahony. This took place O'Mahony hometown of Ballydehob, Co Cork. The show drew a sellout crowd of 240 people.

September, the October Tour and end of 2008

On September 18, 2008, IWW tag team The Hurling Heroes (Captain Rooney & Conor Hurley) won the Celtic Wrestling tag team championship. They defeated Celtic Wrestling's Method & Madness tag team at a Celtic Wrestling show in Aberfan, Wales to win the belts.

From the 26th-28th of September Irish Whip Wrestling held shows in Tramore, Waterford, Mount Mellick, Laois and Thurles, Tipperary. Mandrake successfully defended his IWW International Heavyweight title against Conor Hurley in the main event of each show.

On October 23, 2008, Irish Whip Wrestling began its annual October tour. In notable happenings Captain Rooney, Conor Hurley and Working Class John made an impression in shows in their hometowns. In Captain Rooney's hometown of Stillorgan on October 25,he and his partner Conor Hurley successfully defended their Celtic Wrestling Tag Titles against Celtic Wrestling representatives T-Bone and Jules Lambrini. They also defended their tag titles in Conor Hurley's hometown of Callan, Kilkenny on October 27 this time against La Warren and Jules Lambrini. On October 26 in front of his hometown of Clondalkin, Working Class John defeated the Ballymun Bruiser. Bingo Ballance successfully defended his IWW Zero Gravity title against Vic Viper, Keith Connolly and Billy Boy Meehan throughout the tour. Also Mandrake continued his winning ways by retaining the IWW International Heavyweight title against Pro Wrestling Noah and Ring of Honor star Bobby Fish and Vic Viper. Mad Man Manson also went undefeated on this tour.

In November 2008 IWW held shows in Longford town (November 8), Cootehill, Cavan (November 22) and Castleblayney, Monaghan (November 23). In Longford Conor Hurley and Mad Man Manson beat Billy Boy Meehan and The Ballymun Bruiser in the main event. In Cootehill and Castleblayney Mandrake defeated in LA Warren two out of three fall matches to retain the IWW International Heavyweight Championship.

Irish Whip Wrestling ended 2008 with shows in Enniscorthy, Wexford (December 6) and Balbriggan (December 7). On the Enniscorthy show England's Mark Haskins defeated The Ballymun Bruiser, Vic Viper and Red Vinny(RQW Cruiserweight Champion) in a four way match to become the new RQW Cruiserweight Champion. Red Vinny had held the title for nearly 2 years. The Balbriggan show was a Fan Appreciation Night. Bingo Ballance beat LA Warren in the main event in a 2 out of 3 falls match.

Irish Whip Wrestling in 2009

Irish Whip Wrestling started 2009 with shows in Rathcoole, Dungarvan, Waterford and Cashel, Tipperary from January 30-February 1. At the Rathcoole show, Bingo Ballance lost the Zero Gravity Championship to LA Warren. Bingo received re-matches in Dungarven and Cashel but was unsuccessful in regaining the chamionship. Also Captain Rooney defeated Indian Wrestler Prince Mohammend Ahmeen throughout the tour and Mandrake successfully defended his IWW International Heavyweight Championship against No1 Contender Conor Hurley in a best of 3 falls match.

In February Irish Whip Wrestling held a multi date tour around Ireland featuring former WWE Superstars Doug Basham and Big Vito and also the UK's T-Bone and Joel Redman in addition to the usual IWW Roster.

It began with a show in Lucan, County Dublin on Saturday 7th of February. This show saw the team of the Hurling Heroes (Conor Hurley and Captain Rooney)split up. They faced off in a three way match involving Zero Gravity Champion LA Warren in which Warren pinned Rooney. Post match Warren and Hurley vicious beat down Rooney. Warren and Hurley also got involved later on in the night in a last man standing match between IWW International Heavyweight Champion Mandake and Doug Basham. Post match Basham challenged Warren and Hurley to a tag match with Mandrake as his partner in the main event which saw Basham and Mandrake won. Also on the show Mad Man Manson defeated the Ballymun Bruiser and Bingo Ballance beat The Supermodel to become number 1 contender to the Zero Gravity Championship.

IWW continued its February tour with a show in Drogheda, Co. Louth on February 12. In notable happenings Doug Basham defeated The Supermodel and IWW International Heavyweight Champion successfully defended his title against former WCW and WWE Superstar Big Vito. In Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary on February 13, Big Vito defeated Doug Basham in the first ever match between both competitors. Plus in a six man encounter Mad Man Manson, Joel Redman and Conor Hurley beat The Supermodel,T-Bone and The Ballymun Bruiser.

On February 14 IWW returned to the Forum in Waterford City. Highlights included a match in which La Warren successfully defended his Zero Gravity Title against Joel Redman. Also on the show Mad Man Manson defeated Big Vito and Mandrake beat Doug Basham in a Best of Three Falls match to retain the IWW International Heavyweight Championship.

The following day IWW held shows in Carlow town, Co. Carlow & Killkenny City,Co. Kilkenny. In highlights from the shows Big Vito beat T-Bone and Mandrake bested Conor Hurley and Doug Basham in a three way match to retain the IWW International Heavyweight Championship.

From March 12-17 2009 Irish Whip Wrestling held a six day tour. These shows were held Wexford town,Wexford, Birr,Co.Offaly,Tallaght and Donnycarney,Dublin Clonmel,Tipperary and Naas,Kildare. In notable happenings,La Warren succcessfully retained his Zero Gravity title against a vareity of opponents include former champion Bingo Ballance,Joel Redman, Vic Viper and Red Vinny. Conor Hurley also defeated former WWE wrestler Big Vito at the Tallaght show on March 14. In addition Mandrake successfully fended of the challenge of Doug Basham throughout the tour and retained his IWW International Heavyweight Championship. This tour got a significant amount of media attention from the likes of RTE, Fighting Spirit magazine and The Sunday Tribune.

In April 2009 Irish Whip Wrestling ran shows in Cork,Donegal and Mount Mellick, Loais. On the shows Captain Rooney defeated The Supermodel. Also La Warren successfully defended his Zero Gravity title against Scottish wrestler Angus J. Rotunda. In addition there was a rematch between Conor Hurley and Big Vito coming the title. Finally Mandrake defeated English wrestler Joel Redman to retain the Irish Whip Wrestling International Heavyweight Championship. Mandrake has held the Championship for 13 Months. If he still has it by late May 2009 he will be the longest reigning Irish Whip Wrestling International Heavyweight Championship in company history.

  • Irish Whip Wrestling's flagship show Whiplash TV was shown for two seasons on TWC Fight (formerly The Wrestling Channel) and is currently on Buzz TV.
