Revision as of 01:01, 24 September 2009

The following discussions are requested to have community-wide attention:

Talk:Greg Fitzsimmons

All statements regarding Fitzsimmons's public discussion of his child-rearing practices are being repeatedly deleted in their entirety. Is any of the information relevant? ChildrenDeserveBetter (talk) 16:27, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:George W. Bush

It has been argued that inclusion of Bush having used marijuana violates WP:FRINGE and is a original interpretation of source material. Opposing this argument are claims that appearance in the above sources (Associated Press and Reuters) are not fringe, and that many of the above articles explicitly call Bush's statements admissions of use and so are not personal interpretation.--Louiedog (talk) 13:47, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Barney Frank

Is biographical description of Josh Gottheimer useful for lead? I believe that information beyond the citation itself is undue weight for a lead of a bio about someone else altogether LotLE×talk 02:30, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Nelly Furtado

Why is someone always changing nelly furtado nationality to canadian? She is by portuguese nationality law a portuguese. The law states a person born to a portuguese mother or father is automatically a portuguese citizen. And besides this her connection to portuguese culture is very clear. She grew up in a portuguese comunity in Canada she speaks portuguese, have songs sang in portuguese, she already stated that she identifies herself with portugal, plans to have an entire album in portuguese language and even have an entire album inspired in portuguese folklore ... So why do people always changing her nationality to canadian, when she is clearly a portuguese-canadian person?
There is no doubt that Furtado is a Portuguese-Canadian. That's not the issue. The issue is how the opening paragraph of this article should be written. Per WP:MOSBIO, ethnicity should only be emphasized in the opening intro paragraph in a way that explains why it's part of the person's notability. Or, if the person is a dual citizen of another country. Furtado may indeed be a citizen of Portugal, but there should be a reliable source that states so. All Hallow's (talk) 05:12, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Max Boot

I'd like more outside perspectives on this. We used to have three disputes in the article: with the Counterpunch writer, with historian Woods, and with the 'Israeli Lobby' authors. The first is now gone. Should the others be removed as well? Or should the first be re-added? Personally, I have no strong opinions either way but I can see how this can be iffy. The Squicks (talk) 20:33, 17 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Carmen Miranda

Carmen Miranda biography in wikipedia in the english version states she was a portuguese-born brazilian. The reality is that she have born in portugal to portuguese parents and she never had brazilian citizenship. Because of that she always lived her life as a foreigner in Brazil and in the United States of America, the two countries where she lived her life, besides Portugal. Due to this fact i belive it is incorrect to state she was brazilian, since that is not true. This doesn't put at stake the relationship she had with brazilian culture but only states to the real fact she indeed never has brazilian. In the brazilian megazine O Cruzeiro worte in 30/03/1940 that she was portuguese. Same references can be found in the book "O it verde e amarelo de Carmen Miranda" from the writer Tânia da Costa Garcia in page 61 saying "She was portuguese but identified herself with brazilian culture". In a more recent publication, in the very respected portuguese newspaper Diário de Noticias they wrote: Carmen Miranda The most famouse portuguese (...) Carmen never gave up of her portuguese citizenship. Link: http://dn.sapo.pt/gente/perfis/interior.aspx?content_id=1141949. In no place there is proof that she adquire brazilian citizenship since in those times it was forbidden to have dual citizenship both in portugal and in brazil and to be a brazilian citizen she had to open hand of her portuguese one and she never did that. So refering to her as portuguese-born brazilian is then incorrect and in my view diminish the portuguese that she was since she isn't even refered as portuguese-brazilian but portuguese-born brazilian. Talk:Mark Kirk

Is the "Contributors" section article good or does it violate NPOV with guilt by association?John Asfukzenski (talk) 18:46, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

[[Talk:Conrad Murray#RfC: Should Conrad Murray be a redirect or an article?|Talk:Conrad Murray]]

Given the AfD and the discussion on this page, should Conrad Murray exist as a separate article or a redirect to Death of Michael Jackson? --Albany NY (talk) 19:43, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Joe Wilson (U.S. politician)

Should the lede, which currently says little more than that Joe Wilson is a Congressman, be expanded to summarise the article (WP:LEAD)? As part of such an expansion, should the recent comments he made which launched him from relative obscurity to international attention (France's Le Monde dubbed him "Joe 'You Lie' Wilson" [1]) be included in the lede? Rd232 talk 19:53, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Glenn Beck

Are these quotes at the end of the Beck article Political Views section, regarding state secession, which were taken from his Chuck Norris interview, suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia? Scott P. (talk) 21:31, 11 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Archie Manning

A portion of a sentence in the Cooper Manning section seems to have been copied without attribution from USA TODAY.
The portion is, "...he was once an All-State High School receiver, catching touchdown passes from his little brother Peyton, and he was a hot commodity headed for the University of Mississippi."
The original sentence is, "He was once an all-state high school receiver, catching touchdown passes from little brother Peyton, and a hot commodity headed for Mississippi."

Are self-referenced claims regarding early childhood statements notable? Simonm223 (talk) 15:39, 8 September 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Muhammad al-Durrah

Is the statement currently in the lead, that "A number of researchers and commentators have suggested the possibility that the entire incident was staged", sufficiently sourced (and properly worded based on those sources) to not violate WP:AWW or WP:UNDUE? Previous discussion on the topic can be reviewed here. ← George [talk] 05:32, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Talk:Josie Maran

Is an extended worklist valueable information for the reputation of the model and is it in accordance with the English wikipedia-guideline for lists?
To see the lists in question follow the following link.
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Josie_Maran&diff=310196009&oldid=310098187
Further infos about this question:
The info was there for years.
It's sources are the first reference and the official website of J. Maran.
User Mbineri deleted those lists saying it would be against the guidelines for lists.
The Guidelines however state explicitly that lists of information can be added at the end of an article. IN OVER 8 MONTHS sser Mbineri NEVER managed to write a response about this exception. ("Never" is clearly a neutral statement, as you could see in the history of the talk-page, the article-history sum-ups, his talk-page and the talk-page of the lists-guideline page some months ago.)
Of course as it is known on Wikipedia for all past and presumably all future the article was blocked against editing by IPs after the lists were removed. (Though this time they were removed for another reason by a User who never ever was involved before in this articles writing or discussion - surprisingly.)
(Noteworthy but not fully related to this RfC is that the article< was already blocked against editing by IPs through another admin (Future Prefect ...) who - granting what User Mbineri say is true - already removed the lists once because he had the same opinion about the lists. That's blocking by an admin who is involved in a content dispute himself.)
