The City of Edgewater is a Home Rule Municipality located in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States. Edgewater is located on the west side of Denver, in the Denver-Aurora Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of the 2010 census, the population is 5,170.[6] Edgewater is surrounded by Denver to the east, Lakewood to the south and west, and Wheat Ridge to the north.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.7 square miles (1.8 km²), all of it land. Sloan's Lake, a body of water that sits within the western edge of the city limits of Denver, is just to the east of Edgewater.

As of the 2005-2009 American Community Estimates, there were 5,146 people, 2,698 households, and 1,329 families in the city. The population density was 7,630.4 inhabitants per square mile (2,961.0/km²). There were 2,424 housing units at an average density of 3,396.9 per square mile (1,318.2/km²). Public services

The Edgewater Municipal Building, located at 24th Avenue and Sheridan Boulevard.

The Edgewater Police Department is organized into three divisions with an authorized strength of fifteen officers and four civilian employees, with three part time civilian employees working for the department and municipal court.[11] The police dept. uses the Jefferson County Sheriffs Dept. communications as their dispatch and 911 center.

The Edgewater Fire Department has one fire station and is staffed with a full time, professional fire chief and volunteer, professional firefighters. The city hired its first full-time Fire Chief in November 2009.

Edgewater contracts out for emergency medical services with Pridemark Paramedic Services who respond from dynamic posts outside of the city limits.

Schools in Edgewater are Edgewater Elementary, Lumberg Elementary, and Jefferson High School.[citation needed]
