WSYD (1300 AM) is a radio station broadcasting an Oldies format during the day and Southern gospel at night. Licensed to Mount Airy, North Carolina, USA, the station serves the Piedmont Triad area. The station is currently owned by Granite City Broadcasting and features programing from Salem Communications.[1][2]

History

WSYD started out playing rock and roll in the early 1970s. Prior to the most recent change, the station played a mix of contemporary and classic country. The switch to "oldies" took place on April 6, 2011 after news director Mark Brown asked listeners what music they would like to hear. A poll was conducted, and the listeners voted overwhelmingly for the switch to a "pop oldies" format, dubbed "Granite City Gold." Mondays through Fridays from 6:00am until 6:00pm, WSYD plays pop hits from the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and early 1980s. "TJ the DJ" plays the same format on Saturday mornings during his "Saturday Morning Oldies Show," which he began on WSYD several years ago. Weekday morning host Deborah Cochran has worked at WSYD for more than three decades. Brack Llewellyn entertains the "Granite City Gold Nation" each afternoon. Bob King hosts the "Drive To Five" at 4:00pm Mondays through Thursdays, as well as the new "50s @ 5" show. "On the Beach with Charlie Brown" is heard Fridays at 2:00pm, and the "Elvis Only" show airs Fridays at 9:00am. Granite City Gold listeners can hear such artists as Buddy Holly, Brenda Lee, the Beatles, Marvin Gaye, Elton John and many others. news|url=http://www.mtairynews.com/view/full_story/12584516/article-WSYD-to-change-format-to-oldies%7Ctitle=WSYD to change format to oldies|last=Tilley|first=Mondee|work=Mount Airy News|date=2011-04-01|accessdate=2011-04-07}}</ref>
