Choosing a feature set in software comparison articles
Updated the intro.
Comparison of BitTorrent clients<br/>
I was glad to find this article as it helped further clarify subnets and submasks. I had already read some other articles however and had that going in. I noticed a note that the single sentence lead section didn't fit Wiki standards, so I took that opportunity to add an intro paragraph that set the stage with regard to routers, IP adresses, why we care about certain sections of the IP address and what they do. It's written in lay-person's language because I'm a lay person and, as someone newly learning this stuff, I saw the need to outline the basics in common terms so the reader would have a framework for interpreting the more technical details.
There's an edit warring in the referenced article about whether to include a certain feature into the comparison. I advised them to seek consensus but am unsure of how to seek it in this case. The feature is of course covered in RS'es. And there doesn't appear to be any policies, guidelines or even prior discussions on how to decide whether a feature is "notable" to be comparing on. &mdash; Vano 22:17, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Can an article called Embedded computer emulators be made ?
It should include:
* Palm OS emulator
* Aemulor
* Elbrus Technologies x86 emulator (emulator for running x86 programs on ARM)
* ...

80.200.238.94 (talk) 10:24, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
There is a need to keep to one article as there are some profound and some not so profound differences. Integrating the differences in one article allows for continuity in the thought process. Include diagrams as some are visual learners and others are text learners. DJ
:I'm not sure that Embedded computer emulators (or even embedded computer emulator, per WP:SINGULAR) would be the best title to include such subjects. Would the two other products listed meet the general notability guideline? <span style="white-space:nowrap;">-- Trevj</span> (talk) 11:47, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

:it depends on how far you take the article content, if just covering the above it probably just meet notability guidelines but if you extend it to include other emulators it would pass notability but it best to decided what emulators would be included before creating the article, to be hones ti say this might suit better under virtualization, in essence that is what emulators are virtualization of a specif system but doing it within itself rather than in virtual machine<font color="Light Blue">Andrewcrawford</font> (<small>talk</small> - <small>contrib</small>) 12:44, 10 December 2012 (UTC)

This is a notice to let you know about Article alerts, a fully-automated subscription-based news delivery system designed to notify WikiProjects and Taskforces when articles are entering Articles for deletion, Requests for comment, Peer review and other workflows (full list). The reports are updated on a daily basis, and provide brief summaries of what happened, with relevant links to discussion or results when possible. A certain degree of customization is available; WikiProjects and Taskforces can choose which workflows to include, have individual reports generated for each workflow, have deletion discussion transcluded on the reports, and so on. An example of a customized report can be found here.

Proposed revision: Continuous Controls Monitoring
If you are already subscribed to Article Alerts, it is now easier to report bugs and request new features. We are also in the process of implementing a "news system", which would let projects know about ongoing discussions on a wikipedia-wide level, and other things of interest. The developers also note that some subscribing WikiProjects and Taskforces use the <code>display=none</code> parameter, but forget to give a link to their alert page. Your alert page should be located at "Wikipedia:PROJECT-OR-TASKFORCE-HOMEPAGE/Article alerts". Questions and feedback should be left at Wikipedia talk:Article alerts.<!--Addbot-WP-Message-Article-alerts-01-->

In support of the Wikipedia Improvement by Supported Expert Revision Project - NJIT Workgroup on Information Literacy and Learning (WILL), I am proposing a revision to a stub article on Continuous Controls Monitoring (CCM) in which the current definition needs improvement beyond its rudimentary information, supported by reliable sources.

“Continuous Controls Monitoring (CCM) is the techniques involved in continuously monitoring and auditing an IT system. Typically CCM solutions will be applied to Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as SAP."

I am proposing a significant re-write by eliminating the use of same word references, expanding upon the lack of explanation of what controls and continuous terms are, and referencing industry expert published content.

A proper definition should highlight the importance for organizations to operate and monitor IT system controls, helping readers by improving their understanding of the topic, and potentially give them a good starting point when researching ways to improve their organization's IT governance.

The title of the page List of XML schemas is wrong. It's the same thing as List of XML markup languages, only grouped by purpose. Also, the title "List of XML markup languages" is iffy because it can be read as "list of extensible markup language markup languages" which makes little sense. A better title would be e.g. "List of XML-based markup languages", possibly omitting the word markup. This article mentions that "ISO" stands for "International Organization for Standardization" however this is not true. "ISO" is a Greek word meaning "EQUAL" which was selected by the International Organization for Standardization to name a set of quality standards.

Internet Top Level Country Domains
Hi, Mark Hurd.

There is an ongoing debate on the Northern Ireland Talk Page about what Top Level country domains should be listed. At present the infobox lists .uk, .ie and .eu, but this is disputed. The infobox also has a note saying ".uk is assigned to the United Kingdom of which Northern Ireland is a part, .ie is assigned to Ireland of which Northern Ireland is a part, and .eu is assigned to the European Union of which Northern Ireland is a part. ISO 3166-1 is GB, but .gb is unused"
The problem is that ISO 9000 mentions, "ISO 9000 is maintained by ISO, the International Organization for Standardization". So, it is understood that "ISO" stands for "International Organization for Standardization". However, "ISO" is just part of the organization's logo and is the name of its set of quality standards.

I would like to ask if anyone has any knowledge of matters relating to Internet top level country domains and if they could please add their insights to the ongoing discussion. Myself and a few others believe it is inappropriate to claim that .ie is Northern Irelands internet domain, because .ie was assigned to a different country (the Republic of Ireland), whilst others say it was assigned to the whole island and point to the fact that the organisation that runs the domain, does welcome people from Northern Ireland to purchase domains too.
I think that the ISO 9000 article should say, instead: "ISO 9000 is maintained by the International Organization for Standardization" to avoid any confusion regarding the Greek word "ISO". It is a small but important detail.

Any additional input on the talk page is most welcome. Thank you BritishWatcher (talk) 11:37, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Best,
:SEO Ireland: Domain names and Northern Ireland - both .uk, .ni, .ie and .eu are used, .uk being the official one (i.e. used by governmental institutions). So they all should be included. &mdash; Vano 10:09, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

::::Project banners always go on talk pages. Often they are present on a WikiProject's main talk page but project banners are not required. Not all projects that use a banner template use the Project class either. A banner can also go on a category talk page, redirect talk page, etc. The importance score isn't really needed for Project class pages and it is often set to NA. This one had always been set to High from what I can remember but generally importance is only used for articles. The documentation for WPBannerMeta is quite complex but if you need any specific info let me know and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction. The WikiProject computing banner template is one of the more complex examples because of all the extra hooks and taskforces that are linked into it. == Amiga 600 Computer ==

Next Unit of Computing
Information I read in the late 90's, Stated that the "Amiga 600" was originally designed and going to be Commodore's first Laptop Computer. Hence NO NUMERIC KEYPAD and the new PCMCIA Slot!!!
Poor sales of it's predecessor, the Amiga 500+ got Commodore executives worried. There was nothing in the pipe-line to replace the A500+ and it's ailing sales. And Commodore desperateley wanted something to release for Christmas 1992, from what I recall of the article, Christmas was Peak Sale time for most Computer sales.
Apparently it was suggested by someone at commodore to scrap the Laptop Idea, which was stagnating, or running into problems and release the already semi-designed and built A600 mainboard (previously known under another name) as a replacement of the A500+ in Christmas of 1992!
As I said, this is information I read in a Commodore Magazine in the late 90's, I am going from memory, as I unfortunateley do not have the article anymore, and cannot remember the publisher.
I do remember this article, as it influenced me to buy my A600, which I still own to this day!
But this does fit the History, as follows...
1) No Numeric Keypad on the A600, laptops do not have these!
2) The added PCMCIA slot, not on any previous Amiga Computers, but possibly on Laptops of the era?
3) Poor 500+ sales, commiting Commodore to replace it with the A600
4) A600 bugs, as it was rushed onto the market, a market it was not originally intended for
Ihope this assists your site with added info?
Darren Holt, a former Amiga computer repairer.

It's about beer whose recipe is open source. Choosing a feature set in software comparison articles

Comparison of BitTorrent clients (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
— Vano 22:17, 28 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Embedded computer emulators

Can an article called Embedded computer emulators be made ? It should include:

80.200.238.94 (talk) 10:24, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that Embedded computer emulators (or even embedded computer emulator, per WP:SINGULAR) would be the best title to include such subjects. Would the two other products listed meet the general notability guideline? -- Trevj (talk) 11:47, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
it depends on how far you take the article content, if just covering the above it probably just meet notability guidelines but if you extend it to include other emulators it would pass notability but it best to decided what emulators would be included before creating the article, to be hones ti say this might suit better under virtualization, in essence that is what emulators are virtualization of a specif system but doing it within itself rather than in virtual machineAndrewcrawford (talk - contrib) 12:44, 10 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
How about starting by improving Emulator and then split it off to a new article if it becomes necessary? -—Kvng 16:00, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed revision: Continuous Controls Monitoring

In support of the Wikipedia Improvement by Supported Expert Revision Project - NJIT Workgroup on Information Literacy and Learning (WILL), I am proposing a revision to a stub article on Continuous Controls Monitoring (CCM) in which the current definition needs improvement beyond its rudimentary information, supported by reliable sources.

Target Article: (2012, November 21). In Wikipedia. Retrieved November 21, 2012 from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuous_controls_monitoring

Current Definition: “Continuous Controls Monitoring (CCM) is the techniques involved in continuously monitoring and auditing an IT system. Typically CCM solutions will be applied to Enterprise Resource Planning systems such as SAP."

I am proposing a significant re-write by eliminating the use of same word references, expanding upon the lack of explanation of what controls and continuous terms are, and referencing industry expert published content.

In developing my definition, I plan on referring to industry expert reference literature such as:

1. ISACA (2010, October 1). Monitoring Internal Control Systems and IT. Rolling Meadows, IL. ISACA.

2. Senft, Sandra. Gallegos, Frederick. Davis, Aleksandra. (2013, July 18). Information Technology Control and Audit. Boca Raton, FL. CRC Press

A proper definition should highlight the importance for organizations to operate and monitor IT system controls, helping readers by improving their understanding of the topic, and potentially give them a good starting point when researching ways to improve their organization's IT governance.

It is not necessary to ask permission to edit - see WP:BOLD. Your contribution was definitely an improvement. Thanks. I have made some further minor improvements. -—Kvng 16:09, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

XML lists

The title of the page List of XML schemas is wrong. It's the same thing as List of XML markup languages, only grouped by purpose. Also, the title "List of XML markup languages" is iffy because it can be read as "list of extensible markup language markup languages" which makes little sense. A better title would be e.g. "List of XML-based markup languages", possibly omitting the word markup. I don't have the time to work on these right now (if ever), so feel free to be BOLD should you be inclined so. Wipe (talk) 02:00, 22 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

There are two other Editors who agree with you. I have put up merge banners. -—Kvng 21:06, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FreeDOS 32

FreeDOS 32 is up for deleting. Is this notable enough to write a stub for? -- 70.24.247.127 (talk) 20:51, 24 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not but it doesn't deserve to be deleted either. -—Kvng 21:09, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Internet Top Level Country Domains

There is an ongoing debate on the Northern Ireland Talk Page about what Top Level country domains should be listed. At present the infobox lists .uk, .ie and .eu, but this is disputed. The infobox also has a note saying ".uk is assigned to the United Kingdom of which Northern Ireland is a part, .ie is assigned to Ireland of which Northern Ireland is a part, and .eu is assigned to the European Union of which Northern Ireland is a part. ISO 3166-1 is GB, but .gb is unused"

Any additional input on the talk page is most welcome. Thank you BritishWatcher (talk) 11:37, 4 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SEO Ireland: Domain names and Northern Ireland - both .uk, .ni, .ie and .eu are used, .uk being the official one (i.e. used by governmental institutions). So they all should be included. — Vano 10:09, 5 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
