Production
Development
Early 2012, Bhushan Kumar made the announcement of making the then untitled movie on college romance genre that will mark the debut of director Divya Khosla Kumar. Soon, an announcement was released that the star cast of the film will also include new comers Himansh Kohli[8] (last seen in TV show Humse Hai Life) on Channel [V],[9] Rakul Preet Singh (Miss India 2011 worked in Kannada, Telugu & Tamil movies),[10] and Nicole Faria (Miss Earth 2010 popular in Modeling Industry).[11] This movie will bring to the industry new director and new young star cast, including Bollywoods rising starlet half-German half-Indian Evelyn Sharma[12] to play an angelic dream girl. The movie also has senior actors like Gulshan Grover[13] and Deepti Naval[14] play important characters in the movie.
During the pre production stage, news was released on the locales to be used in the movie. The director has chosen unexplored and virgin locations in Darjeeling.
The title of the movie was registered with Saif Ali Khan[15] (for the movie Cocktail) who gladly gave away the rights to his friend Bhushan Kumar[16] to use for this film.
The production budget of film is ₹11 crore (US$1.3 million)[1]
Filming
The muharat shot clapped by Bhushan Kumar [17] himself, the shoot began in Mumbai on the auspicious day of Dashera [18] followed by shoots in Australia and then Sikkim and Darjeeling.[19] 'Yaariyan' is the first ever movie to be shot in Sikkim.[20]

Yaariyan was panned by critics. It received a lot of negative reviews by both critics as well as public. Mohar Basu of Koimoi gave 0 stars out of 5 stars , stating that "It is dull, boring, pathetic and doesn't seem to get over". Paloma Sharma of Rediff.com gave Half star out of 5 saying "Yaariyan is a brand new recipe for disaster!" Saibal Chatterjee, NDTV gave 1 Star stated "Calling Yaariyan silly would be the understatement of the year. It is mind-numbingly idiotic. It would make perfect sense to give this film a miss." FilmsofIndia gave one and a half star by saying " the film has nothing new to offer. With a weak script, weaker performances, tedious on-screen chemistry and an unimpressive starcast." Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama noted that the last half of the film was "gripping" and that genereally it is "[a] treat for youngsters and young at heart".[21] Madhureeta Mukherjee from The Times of India gave the movie 3 stars stating “Divya's debut film 'Yaariyan' is mounted on a large canvas with impressive production value."[22] Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama noted that the last half of the film was "gripping" and that genereally it is "[a] treat for youngsters and young at heart".[23] Madhureeta Mukherjee from The Times of India gave the movie 3 stars stating “Divya's debut film 'Yaariyan' is mounted on a large canvas with impressive production value."[24] Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV panned the film as a "pea-brained college campus rumpus that stutters and splutters all the way through to a hopelessly bizarre climax",[25] The Rediff review blasted the production, declaring that "every single teenager who chooses to watch it will be insulting their own intelligence."[26] India Today also declared "Yaariyan is an entirely disappointing film. The characters are flawed, and the acting is fake."[27]

The soundtrack for the film was composed by Pritam. There is also a special number by Honey Singh titled ABCD. Mithoon rendered tracks for this film as well. Arko Pravo Mukherjee also composed a track. First full track ABCD was released on 25 Nov 2013. Baarish was released on 29 Nov 2013. It crossed 1 million views on Youtube in 2 days. Audio album of the movie was released on 9 December 2013 on internet. Song Allah Waariyan was released on 11 December 2013. The song is sung by Shafqat Amanat Ali, and written as well as composed by Arko Pravo Mukherjee.
